2011 Events and Appearances
Even though I love going to conventions, this year I need to take extra care as I determine which shows I'll be attending. If I could, I'd spend every weekend traveling to one show or another, but spending time at conventions means spending money that might be exceptionally tight as I begin my full-time freelance career. More importantly, spending time at conventions means spending time away from my family.
With that in mind, every convention I attend must serve at least one of three purposes: earning money, expanding my audience significantly, or advancing my professional career. I realize this sounds pretty mercenary and selfish, but those are the guidelines that make sense to me. Spending a ton of dough on travel and hotel expenses at an event where I only sell a few books just isn't good business!
So, as the 2011 convention season starts gearing up, here are the shows I'm planning on attending. I hope to see you at one of these events!

Weekend Update, March 13
A few updates for the weekend…
On the job front…
I am now officially a full-time writer! So go buy some of my books so I don't starve!
Comic Book Resources ran an interview with me this week. It covers some of my earliest comic book memories, how I broke into writing comics, and how lucky Brian Hurtt is to work with me.
And on the review front, you can check out a couple of reviews of The Sixth Gun – one with Horror Haven and one with Blair Butler's Fresh Ink!

Fear Itself: Black Widow
Marvel has announced that I'll be writing the Fear Itself: Black Widow one-shot. This story showcases Natasha Romanova going up against power-mad terrorists in the heart of Paris. Obviously, I'm very excited about this project, and it gives me a chance to flex some new writing muscles. Marvel's sexiest and most deadly spy in the most iconic city in France? Evil terrorists? Impending nuclear disaster? What's not to love?
However, I reject all rumors that I wore a black leather cat suit to get into the character's mindset.
Check out this interview for all the details.

Superman/Batman – Sorcerer Kings
My four-issue arc of Superman/Batman has been solicited. The first issue of this tale of time travel and sorcery was released last month, and the second issue will come out in a couple of weeks. Here are the covers (by the great Travel Foreman) and a brief teaser of each issue (which will be illustrated by ChrisCross and colored by Marc Deering).
Superman/Batman #81
"Sorcerer Kings" part 1 of 4! Who is that weird Batman on the cover? What has happened to the Earth's sun? And how is it all connected to the mysterious armored figure that Shadowpact discovers in an abandoned factory outside Metropolis? Writer Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) and artist ChrisCross (FIRESTORM) launch Superman and Batman on an utterly epic journey – one that will leave no corner of the DCU untouched!
Superman/Batman #82
"Sorcerer Kings" part 2 of 4! When Superman mysteriously vanishes from Earth, Batman must call upon some of the DCU's top mystics such as Dr. Occult to get some answers. Meanwhile, The Man of Steel finds himself fighting side-by-side with a strange Batman against a horde of Solomon Grundies. And just what is the sun doing to his powers?
Superman/Batman #83
The penultimate chapter of "Sorcerer Kings" finds Batman, Doctor Occult, Detective Chimp and Klarion the Witchboy facing a magical Armageddon in the present as Superman is taken to meet the future Justice League at the Hall of Doom! How did things go so wrong — and can anything be done to stop it?
Superman/Batman #84
Superman must help the JLA of the future – Aquaman, Klarion the Warlock, Traci 13, Stanley and His Monster, Scream Queen and Jason Blood – in preventing Morgaine le Fey from traveling back in time to our era and destroying the sun! But Batman insists that you can't change the past, and, well, Batman is kind of always right, so . . . hello, eternal darkness?

The Final Countdown!
Forgive me. I couldn't resist. And you can thank me for that tune running through your head for the rest of the day.
Five days from now I will officially be a full-time writer.
I'm not ready. There's no way I'm ready. I've got insurance issues to worry about! I'm a long way from setting up my business and accounting systems! I don't have enough Ramen stocked up!
The work will be there. I've got several projects on my desk or in the pipe. I'll stay busy (I have to remind myself). The work will be there…
As long as I don't suck.
I'm ready to work. I'm just not ready for everything else that goes along with writing full-time. But not being ready has never stopped me before. I'm like the anti-Boy Scout. "Never be prepared… and reap the whirlwind." That's my motto!
To each and every one of you who have sent me a note of support, thank you. It means a lot, and I'm glad I've got you along with me for this wild and crazy ride!

Weekend Update, March 5
A few updates for the weekend…
This is my last weekend as a corporate monkey! After next week, I will be a full-time writer. No, it hasn't sunk in yet. The good news is, I'm working on six projects right now, all of which (besides The Sixth Gun) are top secret. Hopefully, I can announce some of those soon!
Speaking of The Sixth Gun, I've received a lot of e-mails from people who are concerned that the book was not listed in the latest issue of Previews. Rest assured, the series is not in danger of being cancelled. The schedule just worked out in such a way that we have a skip month coming up. I'm busily writing the third arc of the series, and I've got the story planned out for years to come!
Am I still talking about The Sixth Gun? What can I say? The book's my pride and joy in the world of comics, and it was just nominated by the Young Adult Library Services Association as one of the Great Graphic Novels for Teens! Here's a review of the trade from Comic Attack that I stumbled across just this week, and here's a CBR review of the most recent issue.
Finally, did you guys know that I have a forum? Well, I do. You can find it (as well as the forums for a bunch of really talented writers) at Brian Keene's The Keenedom. I hope you'll check it out!
Rebuilding the Site
I've had a lot of frustration and headaches with my site of late. Those of you who have visited these pages frequently may have noticed that most of my posts–including a lot of fiction–have vanished. I guess I'm in a bit of a "pardon my mess" phase right now. I'm working on cleaning up the problems I had with the previous incarnation of the site, and this meant I needed to pull down a lot of content. My goal is to have many of the older posts live again in the near future, but it's a certainty that I will not be restoring all of the previous entries. In the meantime, I've stripped the site's old theme and implemented a new, streamlined version, and I've been working on cleaning up the categories and tags to better organize the information. Bear with me. I'll have this site whipped into shape in no time!

A Big Boy Desk
For a while now, I've used a small corner desk in my office. It served its purpose (insomuch as its purtpose was housing a computer and gathering dust) but I was never comfortable working from it. I spent more time on the couch than I did at the desk. When I made the decision to write full-time, one of the first things I did was order what I've been calling "my big boy desk." I figured it was time to have a workspace that encouraged me to… you know… work. It's nothing fancy, but I really like it. A few people have asked me to share photos of it, so here ya go: shots of Cullen Bunn Command Central. This is where I'll be chained for the rest of my days!
(And, yes, I realize my office needs a bit of a makeover to bring it out of the wood-paneled 70s and into the modern era. I've been working two full-time jobs for a while now, so there hasn't been much time for remodeling. Hopefully, I can add this to my list of to-do items soon. Also, if you're one of the people who mentioned this to me recently, you may be an ass.)
