Prepare… for doom!

Metal_March_Logo_2

Oni Press’ METAL MARCH Scorches the Earth with BLACK METAL 3 and HELHEIM: THE WITCH WAR TPB

A woefully unprepared world quakes in glee and terror, awaiting the arrival of their new demonic masters

PARTS UNKNOWN (October 31st, 2013) – Dictated, but not read.

“Evil ones! Hear my call! We gather here this night, beneath dark clouds. A fellowship of the damned, a cabal of ravenous beasts, slick with hate, bathed in innocent blood.

The heavy fog of our combined evil has enshrouded us from the anointed so that we may surround this accursed altar, far from the light.

Let us join our charred visages, raise our vile sigils, and speak the forbidden tongues, so that we may pierce the inter-dimensional veil and our dark masters may hear our cries!

HELHEIM VOLUME 1: THE WITCH WAR, bring your ghastly visage forth! Fly low on battered black wings, so that your heavy blades may reach the necks of thine enemies with gruesome precision!

BLACK METAL VOLUME 3, may the thunderous clacking of your cloven hooves strike a paralyzing fear into the hearts of the holy, spelling their doom across the stars!

This most unholy of days, let us join together in shared annihilation and pronounce MARCH 2014 “ONI PRESS’ METAL MARCH”, the chiming of man’s final hour! At this time, darkness shall cover the scorched Earth as Oni Press surveys the screaming land astride these twin beasts of the Stygian apocalypse!”

NOW, LET SLIP THE COLLECTION PLATE OF WAR!

BLACK METAL VOLUME 3

Written by Rick Spears

Art by Chuck BB

So metal it should be bound in ununhexium! Comics’ most unholy epic trilogy comes to a thunderous close as brothers Sam and Shawn Stronghand defeat death to summon a force more evil than the Prince of Darkness himself!

HELHEIM Vol. 1: THE WITCH WAR

Written by Cullen Bunn

Art by Joëlle Jones

Colors by Nick Filardi

Letters by Ed Brisson

The Viking warrior Rikard is many things, but unstoppable and undead are chief among them. Witness the mortal carnage as he bludgeons his way to solace through the grotesque armies of two warring witches in this collection of HELHEIM’s first six-issue series!

P.S. Thanks for everyone’s kind donations. We were able to get the congregation’s van one hell of a tune up!

What is… NIGHT TRAP?

Just in time for Halloween! Lion Forge Comics has announced a new horror-themed project I’ve been developing with them!

Digital publisher Lion Forge Comics announced the addition of its first horror property, Night Trap, to its diverse roster of digital properties. The comic bolsters Lion Forge’s existing slate of 1980s and ‘90s-inspired titles, including Airwolf and Knight Rider, which launched earlier this month.

Written by Cullen Bunn, author of the popular horror comics series The Sixth Gun, Night Trap pays homage to the notorious slasher films of the ‘80s and ‘90s. Although it bears the same name as the video game, Bunn creates an original story, influenced by the ‘90s Night Trap and other titles in the fear-filled genre. In the terrifying comic, a group of co-eds rents a beautiful lake house hoping to get some weekend relaxation and fun. During their stay, they encounter a murder-hungry madman who has watched a few too many splatter flicks. What follows is a gory maze of blood and pain, with death as the likely escape.

“Growing up in the ‘80s, I spent a lot of time watching horror flicks, including slasher movies such as Halloween, Maniac and their ilk – those movies were nerve-wracking, chilling and fun, so long as you enjoyed being scared,” said Cullen Bunn, writer of Night Trap. “I wanted to create a menacing, cruel, and unstoppable killer, and introduce a cast of young, likable victims. Along the way I’ve thrown in a few twists and surprises, but ultimately this is a tribute to the genre and to the killers who taught me that if you break the rules – the boogeyman will get you.”

“Our digital comics catalog is a testament to the passion we have for the movies, TV shows, comics and video games that entertained and influenced us growing up, and we’re thrilled to add our first horror property,” said David Steward II, founder and CEO, Lion Forge. “Fans of everything from Friday the 13th to I Know What You Did Last Summer will get the full scare tactics with Night Trap – and with Halloween’s arrival, what better way for us to pay tribute to such a unique genre of entertainment than with a devilishly entertaining new horror property that all readers can enjoy.”

Night Trap is illustrated by JB Bastos, with Robby Bevard as colorist. The comic is scheduled to release in mid-November.

Fearless Tributes

fearlessdefenders3

There are still two issues of THE FEARLESS DEFENDERS left, but the series will be ending soon. The response from the fans who supported and loved the book has been amazing, and there have been a few tribute pieces popping up here and there. I thought I’d share some of those.

First of all, check out what artist Will Sliney had to say about the series.

Then, Brett White wrote a nice piece on CBR: Have No Fear, “Fearless Defenders” Fans.

On Geeks Out, Shaun N. has written a nice Requiem for the Defenders.

And there’s a pretty entertaining take on the book to be found on Comics To Read.
