The Remains Interview

REMAINS 02-00This week, THE REMAINS issue 2 came out on ComiXology. If you haven’t checked out the series yet, now’s the time! Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive for this tale of terror and you can buy the first two issues for less than a buck each!

Here’s what some reviewers had to say:

“This comic is creepy as Hell.” — Comicosity

“‘The Remains’ is uneasy, violent, horrifying and a quintessential example of how a horror comic is made.” — Comic Addiction

If you want a little more information about where this story came from, check out this interview I did with Pipedream Comics!

Wizard World St. Louis

This Friday and Saturday, I’ll be attending Wizard World St. Louis! You can find me at Table C20. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend on Sunday due to a scheduling conflict.

I’ll be at my table most of the time on Friday and Saturday, but you can find me at one panel on Saturday afternoon.

2:30 – 3:15PM HOW TO WRITE COMICS WITH CULLEN BUNN, JAI NITZ, KEVIN HUIZENGA, AND DANNY FINGEROTH

Accomplished comics writers Cullen Bunn (Wolverine; Avenging Spider-Man,) Jai Nitz (Green Hornet; Kirby Genesis: Silver Star,) Kevin Huizenga (Ganges; Amazing Facts and Beyond) and Danny Fingeroth (Deadly Foes of Spider-Man; How to Create Comics from Script to Print) show and tell you how to write comics and graphic novels, going from initial idea to outline to script to finished story. Plus, the panelists will answer your questions about both the creative and business sides of the comics writing profession, including how to find an artist to work with (hint: a comics convention is the number one place!) and how to write exciting dialogue! (ROOM 144)

I hope to see you at the show!

The Shadow of Houdini

THESHADOW000COVER-COLORS-be12cOfficial Press Release

Dynamite Entertainment is proud to announce the signing of Cullen Bunn, who will pen a Shadow tale where he meets the elusive magician Houdini! And you can expect more to come from Dynamite and Cullen Bunn in the future!

“I’ve long been a fan of pulp heroes, and the Shadow was my introduction into that world,” says writer Cullen Bunn. “I remember my dad recounting adventures of The Shadow he had heard on the radio as a boy. And my dad could do the best imitation of the Shadow’s laugh! I like to think that he’d get a real kick out of me contributing to the legacy of the character. I know I couldn’t be more thrilled. In this tale, we see the Shadow infiltrating a secret society of magicians who are willing to do anything to lay claim to what might be the most forbidden of secrets. As the Shadow evades devious deathtraps, we learn that he has a connection to the greatest magician of all time.”

In The Shadow #0, secrets of the Shadow’s past are revealed as he meets Houdini! The Shadow infiltrates sanctum of an esoteric society of murderous magicians who are hellbent on escaping the ultimate trap–death itself! In order to thwart their plans, though, he must evade twisted traps and solve spellbinding puzzles. A good–or evil–magician never reveals his secrets… but the Shadow knows.

“We’ve wanted to work with Cullen for years, but knew it had to be something special,” says Dynamite CEO / Publisher Nick Barrucci.  The Shadow #0 is that book, and fans will be amazed at the story that Cullen is telling.  Happy to say that while this is our first project with Cullen, there are more to come.”

“Cullen is a fantastic writer and this should be the start of many projects with him here at Dynamite” – Joseph Rybandt, Senior Editor

Oni Press has announced several new projects for 2014, including a couple of new books from me!

First up, we’ve got the return of Rikard, Kadlin, Bera, and Groa in BRIDES OF HELHEIM!

Coming October 2014

Cullen Bunn, Joëlle Jones, and Nick Filardi return to their smash hit Viking horror/fantasy series Helheim! Alone in the wilderness and living in seclusion, the Viking warrior Rikard is confronted once again by black magic and arcane monstrosities. But this time, Rikard seeks vengeance against the warlock who was once master to the witches who wove our undying hero’s bloody fate.

Also in October–HELLBREAK, a new ongoing series, will debut!

Not black ops. The blackest of ops. A group of elite soldiers has been recruited by the shadowy Kerberos Corporation for a series of special missions—breaking souls out of Hell and returning them to their bodies… and replacing the evil demons possessing their mortal shells here on Earth.

A gothic, action-packed vision of Hell in a new ongoing series that evokes Inception and Aliens by way of John Carpenter from the creative forces of writer Cullen Bunn, artist Brian Churilla, and colorist Jordie Bellaire!

More EMPTY MAN Secrets Revealed!

TheEmptyMan_feat-625x199

The idea for THE EMPTY MAN came to me while I was on a road trip. Long drives often put me in the “idea zone” (THE TOOTH and HELHEIM came to me on similar trips). I drove down a stretch of highway lined with an old, tangled barbwire fence. Every so often, I’d see a piece of tattered plastic sheeting that must have blown off the back of a truck. The sheets clung to the barbwire, and they flapped in the wind like strange phantoms. For some reason, the phrase “The Empty Man made me do it” popped into my head, and I couldn’t shake it. Now, several years later, I finally get to tell the story that sprung up from that weird phrase.

I took some time to talk to The Nerdist about the upcoming series. Check out the interview here.
