March to AXIS!

magneto9

Marvel’s next big event is AXIS! The Red Skull, possessing the brain and powers of Charles Xavier, is ready to unleash his master plan!

As you might imagine, the Master of Magnetism has a few things to say about the Red Skull’s apocalyptic intentions, and Issues 9 and 10 of MAGNETO show just how he’s handling the situation.

I’ve done a couple of interviews about the event and how it impacts MAGNETO.

Marvel.com spoke with Rick Remender, Al Ewing, and myself. The result is a pretty good summary of what you can expect.

And I spent a little time speaking with Comic Book Resources about Magneto’s involvement in the epic crossover.

Daily Dead Interview: The Empty Man

Empty_Man_001_coverA-666x1024

Tomorrow sees the release of the first issue of THE EMPTY MAN from Boom! Studios. Early reviews of the book have been pretty strong, with my favorite using the term “What the f@#k…” twice. If you want to learn a little more about the series, I did an interview with Daily Dead that answers a ton of questions about this tale of contagious insanity!

Check it out HERE.

And… please… make sure to pick up the book tomorrow and tell your retailer to pre-order the rest of the series for you!

New Comics This Week!

The Empty Man #1
The Sixth Gun #41
Night of the Living Deadpool

Three new books hit the stands this week!

First up is…

THE SIXTH GUN #41

We know that Griselda the Grey Witch is the mother of General Oliander Bedford Hume. But what other twisted secrets does her history hold? How did she come to possess such terrible power? What dark force does she serve? And what drives her quest to collect the Six and recreate the world?

And in the new series department, we have…

THE EMPTY MAN #1

It’s been one year since the first reported case of the Empty Man disease, and no drug has been able to slow its progress. The cause is unknown, and the symptoms include fits of rage, hideous hallucinations, suicidal dementia, followed by death, or a near lifeless, ‘empty’ state of catatonia. As murder cults rise nationwide, the FBI and CDC enter a joint investigation of the Empty Man, hoping to piece together clues to stop the cult and uncover a cure.

And if you’re a trade-waiter, I’ve got ya covered with…

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADPOOL trade paperback!

Deadpool awakes from a food coma to find — the zombie apocalypse has occurred! Now, can the Merc with a Mouth avoid becoming the Merc in their mouths?! Thrill to the sight of a hideous, rotting-fleshed monster shambling about the landscape — and don’t forget all the zombies he’s fighting! (Get it? That first one referred Deadpool. Who says zombie horror comics can’t have a little humor?) Cullen Bunn, writer of the fan-favorite Deadpool Killogy, brings us one of Deadpool’s darkest tales ever — and we’re not just saying that because it’s in black and white (and red)! You’ve been warned, my friends! So ring the dinner bell and nail shut the door as Deadpool takes on the ambulatory undead! Collecting NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEADPOOL #1-4.

Behind The Scenes – Magneto 3

Here’s a fun look at some of the process for MAGNETO issue 3. I almost never try to draw examples of panels into my scripts. I’m not a very good artist and I get the feeling that my collaborators will secretly (or publicly) laugh at me. For this issue, though, there was a moment that I wasn’t sure I was describing appropriately in the script. I sketched out a quick example of what I was trying to describe: A Sentinel Master Mold around which a military style complex had been built underground. Magneto, somewhere in the complex, uses his powers to “map” the facility and discover the sentinel.

Here’s what my drawing looked like:

cullen's version

See why I worry that artists might laugh at me?

Anyhow, I swallowed my pride, pasted that drawing into the script, and hoped I hadn’t humiliated myself for all time.

To their credit, Gabriel Hernandez Walta and Jordie Bellaire did not make fun of my drawing. Instead, they put together this awesomeness:

master mold

“Damn” is right.

If that’s not a great example of a couple of artists saving a panel, I don’t know what is.

The Sixth Gun Pilot Screening

The Sixth Gun Promo Image

Over the weekend, some lucky fans got the chance to see the unaired pilot episode of THE SIXTH GUN. The episode was shown at George R. R. Martin’s Jean Cocteau Cinema in Santa Fe, NM. It was a great event, with zombie cowboys, themed adult beverages, Q&A, book signings, costume contests, and staged shootouts at the end of the Santa Fe Trail!

Despite a little rain and a blackout that delayed the first screening by a couple of hours (during which we did a panel discussion in the dark), the event was an absolute blast! The pilot was really well received. It looked great on the big screen. And I think we introduced a bunch of new readers to the book!

The Washington Post: Magneto Interview

magneto5

This week, X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST hit theaters, and moviegoers can get a heaping helping of the Master of Magnetism on-screen. But if that’s not enough for you, you should check out my comic series MAGNETO.

I spoke with The Washington Post about the series. The interview goes into detail on the pitch process, the tone of the series, and the appeal of the bad guy.

Give it a read HERE when you get the chance!
