Here’s a fun look at some of the process for MAGNETO issue 3. I almost never try to draw examples of panels into my scripts. I’m not a very good artist and I get the feeling that my collaborators will secretly (or publicly) laugh at me. For this issue, though, there was a moment that I wasn’t sure I was describing appropriately in the script. I sketched out a quick example of what I was trying to describe: A Sentinel Master Mold around which a military style complex had been built underground. Magneto, somewhere in the complex, uses his powers to “map” the facility and discover the sentinel.
Here’s what my drawing looked like:
See why I worry that artists might laugh at me?
Anyhow, I swallowed my pride, pasted that drawing into the script, and hoped I hadn’t humiliated myself for all time.
To their credit, Gabriel Hernandez Walta and Jordie Bellaire did not make fun of my drawing. Instead, they put together this awesomeness:
“Damn” is right.
If that’s not a great example of a couple of artists saving a panel, I don’t know what is.
