They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. And while in my experience that seems to be true, it’s not always obvious that a behavior has moved over into the “insane” column.

ClockHere’s an example of what I mean. Between my family and my writing career, I manage several mailboxes (five to be exact, six if I count the day job). For the last four years, I’ve been deleting annoying and unwanted emails.

Every. Single. Day.

It had become such a habit that I didn’t realize I’d entered the insanity zone. I mean, did I think that by deleting them they would magically stop coming?

I dunno. Maybe.

Like everyone else in the universe, my time is limited and very valuable. So is yours. The world is filled with miniature, time sucking vampires like unwanted, unneeded, unread email.

Welcome to summer

I know, it’s mid-May, not technically summer. But my friend’s kids are coming home from college, my upstairs reminds me that heat rises, and our weather is filled with thunderstorms. 100_0318

We took a mini-vacation this weekend. Our first trip to the Kansas Speedway. I was busy snapping pictures on our way over the bridge and we missed our turn-off. We were in the Cowboy’s truck rather than my car which would have reminded us to turn. :) img_20130823_142145_200.jpg

NASCAR fans are interesting. Very diverse in their own ways. And the drivers have the best hero names. DSCN2906

So I’m dragging to the office this morning, with a full week ahead.

What did you do this weekend?

Guest Post: “Saying Goodbye to a Series” by Lynn Cahoon author of THE BULL RIDER’S KEEPER

lynncahoon:

I’m talking about saying goodbye to The Bull Rider series today.

Saying Goodbye to a Series

The Bull Rider’s Brother started my crazy journey as an author. One with real books to sell, digitally and in print. Four friends from a small mountain town in Idaho come together in an annual celebration in their hometown.  The couple most likely to marry finally find each other again.

My story sold a week after I returned from a visit home.  While I was gone, my husband got the letter from my targeted publisher turning down the book. I was heartbroken. After doing two sets of edits and waiting a year, the editor said no. As he read it to me over the phone, I said something about trying another publisher.

He said maybe I should work on the book more.

I didn’t kill him.  Instead, I ignored his advice and sent it off to a new imprint with an established publisher.  Crimson…

New adventures at Casa Cahoon

So last week, my husband and I decided on our anniversary gift.  (6 years!) I suggested swing dance lessons, he countered.

Toys

Lucy – the red one is mine!

We’ve been putting our new toys to use. One Sunday, we traveled east to the Indiana boarder and played for  a few hours. Since I’d never rode a four wheeler before, that track was perfect. I could go around in circles, figuring out the speed and ride. And except for the speeder boys who were making their own trails, we didn’t even see anyone else out for a ride.

Yes, that's me!

Yes, that’s me!

This Saturday we headed to St. Joes. A Missouri state park with miles, and miles of trails. We bought orange flags so people could see me. And we rode. And rode.

Taking a chance on something new, I never know if I’m going to love or hate it. ATV riding I love. Especially at my own pace – in control of my own destiny.

If you like taking chances on something new, I hope you’ll check out Guidebook to Murder – A Tourist Trap Mystery. The print on demand version is already available, but digital releases Thursday April 17th.

RONE Nominee – Vote Now

Return of the Fae, Book 2 of The Council series is in the running for RONE Novella of the year. Please take a peek and vote.  Here’s a peek at the 5 star review that earned Return of the Fae a place in the contest.

“Return of the Fae” is a tightly written tale without a wasted word. It is reminiscent of Harry Potter with a secret council that governs the world of magickal beings and keeps them hidden from the human eye. It is a fun, fast read!  InD’Tale 563221_10202485838480991_1435085055_n

Return of the Fae

A witch in training, a hunter on the prowl, and a world in jeopardy.

Learning the rules of being a witch takes years, but Parris McCall needs to master them in only weeks. Ty Wallace is going mad with his desire for Parris, but she’s a distraction in his quest to find Coven X before they take The Council and everyone he knows down.

The couple searches for Ty’s mentor, but he’s disappeared. Their only clue comes from a banished witch. When they return, not only are their own lives threatened, but a new life hangs in the balance.

Guidebook to Murder teaser and Stuffed Pepper Soup Recipe

18 days to go before Guidebook To Murder releases. Here’s a little teaser…Guidebook To Murder – A Tourist Trap Mystery 2

Here’s a soup recipe I tried last month when I was looking for something new. It’s hearty enough for dinner when combined with a salad. Fresh french bread on the side is optional. :)

Stuffed Green Pepper Soup

8 oz hamburger (ground turkey would lighten the calories)
1 28 oz can tomato sauce
1 28 oz can diced tomatoes (I’d replace both of the above with small garden tomatoes in the summer-some diced, some blended)
1 cup cooked rice (brown will give your soup a deeper, nutty flavor)
1 28 oz can beef broth
2 tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

Fry meat into crumbles, drain off the grease, then all all the other ingredients back into your pot.  Cook 45 minutes.

This soup freezes well for work lunches (as long as you have a microwave.)

Enjoy.
