Meeting Kino

"The surreal nature of the situation clutched at my insides, like my own hands gripping the ragged steering wheel. I was in a desolate landscape, racing against the sunset to reach a place I had never been and didn’t really want to go. I was miles away from any life as a mother (or woman) that I could ever have imagined." Excerpted from "SoulStroller: experiencing the weight, whispers, & wings of the world."

The Space that is Everywhere.

My knee taps against the kitchen cupboard while I write. Aslan my cat stirs his food. A truck rumbles past, then silence returns. I am here now. Here in this space that is everywhere, that contains each mile I’ve traveled and every tear I’ve shed.

Pondering: Joy

Another product from my writing group prompts... I think we could all use more joy in our lives, don't you?

Pondering: Truth found in silence

At my writing group, our facilitator read us a poem called "Winter Grace" by Patricia Fargnoli and invited us to write for twelve minutes on whatever moved us, either from the poem, our evening together, or life. Following the free flow of words is magic, simple and pure.

Not Us or Them, but rather WE

Brain fog, like pollution, slows my mind. I am here now. Trying to breathe and remember. Saying a prayer, offering a blessing of thanks and gratitude. I know that we citizens of the world are one, not us or them. I wish my beloved United States could focus on what unites rather than divides.

I’ve developed a practice of sending love and light into the places where I know not how to do anything else. Houston with its flooding and hurricane. India with its poverty and pollution. A beggar who I’m hesitant to approach. America and her divided status. Love and light. Both/And. Not us or them, but rather We.

Silence is not an option

Wordsmith that I am, I have no words and saying nothing is not an option. Thoughts and scenes roll through my mind and heart as I witness the vitriol that’s being spewed in the United States right now. I’ve hidden behind my sensitive nature (too much news and/or violence send me into a tailspin). I’ve hoped that sending love and light into the world will be enough. It is a beautiful sentiment and act, and it is silent. Silence is no longer an option for me, so today I share my bumbling way through this charged topic.

Melancholy: an important color of writing

The cawing crows know the truth that lies beneath and speak it aloud with their foul-mouthed calls. The wasps that gnaw on my back porch whisper about more hidden details waiting to be uncovered.

The Road Less Traveled: My Take

A border is an imaginary line, permeable, flexible, sometimes rigid. It is an illusion like the force field surrounding the Amazonian island in the movie Wonder Woman. It is a force, yes… but it can be broken and crossed, just like the path to the road less taken.
