Blogfest of Death

My contribution for Blogfest of Death, hosted by Tessa over at Tessa's Blurb, is an excerpt from my third vampire book (though I spell it vampyre usually for this particular story). I still don't have a title for this book, but this is part the first chapter. It's well under the 1000 words. Roberts stared [...:]

Characters and Characterization

Characterisation or characterization is the process of conveying information about characters in narrative or dramatic works of art or everyday conversation. Characters may be presented by means of description, through their actions, speech, or thoughts.

Dragonfire

I think my #fridayflash this week has just turned into a novel, but I'll share what I've written anyway so you can see what I was working on tonight.

Aidan looked to the sky as dusk settled on the horizon. The bright yellows and oranges flamed the atmosphere and he had to squint into the vibrant rays in order to see. To his right, dark clouds hovered over the mountain, signifying the coming storm.

"Aidan?" the young boy said as he tugged on Aidan's shirt hem.

"Shh, Cody," Aidan hushed. "I need t...

Shawn's Character Interview

I've been attempting to get something written tonight and it's just not happening, mainly because there's a vamp talking—babbling would be more apropos—in my head, so I thought I'd interview him even though I missed the Character Interview Blogfest a couple of weeks back. Shawn never does like to do things on a schedule. I'll give you fair warning, however. He likes to swear a lot. Oh, and it might be a bit long. He won't shut up.

Shawn: I am not babbling. What I have to say is perfectly...

Fallen

This is my first attempt at participating in the Friday Flash Fiction hashtag I keep seeing on Twitter, but I'll tell you what happened tonight. I stood outside and saw the most beautiful falling star I'd ever witnessed, and it sparked an idea. The idea stems from another story I've been working on lately–a novel–and I realized after I wrote this that I may have a short story that falls between books. Anyway, it's 985 words. Seeing as how anything I write ends up a novel, I just tried to...

In Dreams …

Or How Ideas Come to Me.

I have both of these titles listed in my blog ideas doc. Yes, I have an idea doc. It's to keep me on some sort of schedule with my blogging. It kind of works. I'm only a day late in writing this one, but I was sick on Monday, so I have an excuse.

In dreams …

Ideas for stories, whether short or novel-length, can come from practically anywhere for me. Life around me is what usually inspires … a quote, a picture, something overheard at the cafe, the sky and its multitude ...

I Will Possess Your Heart

So … I received this email the other day, and I'd just like to say that stalking me is not a good way to get me to go out with you or anything else with you for that matter. And most ESPECIALLY if your grammar and spelling sucks. I'm a WRITER. If you want to stalk me, know that I fully support SPoGG and will hold you accountable for your ransom notes, and likely edit them before you send them out.

Here's the email:

Hello,
Hew are you today i hope everything is fine .i am happy to contact you...

Oh, the 10 Things that Make Me Grum … Happy

HC Palmquist tagged me because Aspiring Mama tagged her, and so on and so forth, and here I am writing this crazy blog about the things that make me happy when I should be editing something for someone else. Hmpf. Apparently, I needed the distraction.

We can just leave men completely out of the picture here, I think.

10. Rainy days – I love the rain and the thunder, and sitting outside to write. I can't do that where I'm at now, but the thought of doing just that thing again someday makes me...

Barbara Poelle Interviewed by Were-Llama

If you know anything about CJ Redwine, you'll know that she regularly holds interviews on her blog. I'll have to admit that Captain Jack Sparrow is one of my favorite interviewers, but this time around Were-Llama interviews literary agent Barbara Poelle, and hilarity ensues.

If you're a writer, you may be interested in the contest happening over there, where Barbara Poelle will not only give away a copy of THE CONQUERER by Kris Kennedy, but also a 10-page critique to one lucky commenter...

Kait Nolan Interviewed by a Vamp

Kait Nolan is in the midst of a blog tour with her novella Forsaken by Shadow, and I thought it would be interesting to have one of my characters—namely Shawn —interview her, mostly because he saw what I was doing and started throwing out questions. "Interesting" is such a subtle term for Shawn's typical hijinx, but he conducted himself with respect, for the most part, and enjoyed doing the interview. I may have him do this again.

So, on to Shawn's interview with author Kait Nolan.
