You Say Distraction, I Say Divination by Fierce Dolan
As Fierce Dolan is a pen name, I prefer to remain gender-neutral and orientation-free in all open correspondence. Thank you for helping me accomplish this transparency.
~*~*~*~
”What no [lover] of a writer can ever understand is that a writer is working when he’s staring out of the window.” ~Burton Rascoe
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve gotten cracked on by loved ones, online friends, and even fellow writers for popping in and out of Facebook and Twitter while I’m writing. The assumption that writing isn’t really working is apparently reinforced by such activity, as is the projection that it’s a distraction. Granted, unchecked, I can let going to the bathroom be a distraction if I’m feeling dodgy. That’s on me to determine and to correct, however. The fact of the matter is, bounding in and out of other things through certain phases of writing for me is very helpful.
“Shenanigans!” you say. I know. It sounds like an excuse, and I’m dead serious when I say, I’ve been accused of ‘not really working’ when I appear to be spacey or too otherly focused. Sometimes. The thing is, when I’m having a hard time moving through a certain aspect of a writing project or I’ve written to the wall and need to dream up what comes next, those little jogs through other peoples’ statuses and quirky quips often jar clarity.
I have two particularly keen mottos when it comes to digital composition (that is, composing at the keyboard rather than longhand):
Should my PC glitch and my unsaved or backed up hard work disappears, I vow to accept the loss as a message from the Universal Editor that I can do better.
Should I ask from the Universe insight into gridlocked composition and I find said insight in a hairy garter belt on People of Walmart , so fucking be it! I divined inspiration from what was available to me in the moment! Life is good!
A lot of people would say that divination is fortunetelling, reading some accepted set of symbols or oracle to foresee an outcome. Those of us who actually do it know it’s something entirely other. Divination doesn’t tell the future, it clarifies the present, so that choices made in the moment foster creating the future we really want. Sages have led civilizations triumphant over the ages the same way that I motivate my imagination with synaptic stimulation—by making the best of what I have, and choosing to see it in a different light.
So the next time you accuse your writer friend of being too easily distracted, or you’re stumped on a plot element and feeling guilty about surfing the web, stop… stop that train of thought right there, and ask the Universe for insight. Then, above all, be willing to see it wherever it finds you.

About Gigolo Seduction
On Gigolo Seduction…
Long in passion’s service, confident Asif enjoys his life as a thirty-something escort, bringing romance into the lives of metropolitan socialite cougars. Gifted at seducing wealthy white MILFs and bringing them endless pleasure, the arrogant Persian eschews investing in a personal life. A chance meeting with young artist, Cass, while on the job at a gala event, changes his perspective on women forever, and unleashes desires Asif never knew he had.
From Gigolo Seduction…
“Are your works always so intricate?”
She shakes her head, again scanning the tower, though my eyes stay on her. “Frescoes are always detailed and hard work, but this is way above and beyond. Layering in kinetic elements to give moving light and dimensional depth is my dream project come true. Most of my projects are just frescoes.”
“Just frescoes.” I laugh. “They’re noble and valiant relics in the art world.”
“They’re actually in high demand.” Her tone is matter-of-fact.
“Though few people can afford them.”
“Well, you’ve outdone yourself here,” I affirm. Her smile is sincere, her pride evident, elegant, enchanting.
“It’s taken quite a long time to come together, and I’ve left the plasterer more than a little frustrated on several occasions.”
“I can’t imagine him staying angry for long….”
“They’ve given me deep creative license over the project, so that’s saved my ass a couple of times. It’s kind of mind-blowing to work on something so limitlessly funded.”
Our eyes lock for mere seconds and the silence is disturbing. “I was just going for a bite to eat. Would you care to join me?”
Cass nods. “I’d like to, but I need to finish this section. This medium doesn’t wait well.”
She’s genuinely interested and I want her to be. I want her to be as affected as I am. Before I can prod further she asks, “Maybe another time?”
Reluctantly, I follow her to the elevator. She opens it with a pass card attached to a cord coiled on the drawstring of her pants. My eyes linger on the brilliant green gem in her navel.
“What’s your name?”
“Asif,” I reply without hesitating. The sound is bare, like a secret revealed, though I don’t understand why. I always use my real name.
“Another time, Asif.”
The doors slide closed, and I agree.

Bio
Mezzofiction author, Fierce is imagination shapeshifted as a scribe taunting blank pages and carpal tunnel, neither of which are much use for deadlines. Close allies are impeccable timing and a trusty masseuse. Being a switch I/ENFP doesn’t hurt. For kicks Fierce has other personas across several genres, tends to fill in “Other” on surveys without explaining, and chooses the finality of the Japanese Tamagotchi.
In summary: Fierce writes all kind of dirty things that you probably shouldn’t ever read…

Manic Monday Updates: May 21st
Happy Monday!
Okay, I heard the grumbling. I had to drag my ass out of bed at 5:30 this morning and I did plenty of grumbling, too. So go ahead, get it all out.
Done? Feel better? Me neither. lol.
Welcome back to another Manic Monday Updates! For those who are new to MMU, it’s every every Monday I post updates and news from last week.
Ravished Before Sunrise is now available at Barnes and Noble! Whoot!
I haven’t got much writing done during the week. Last week was a busy, busy week for me at the day job. But this week I plan to get back on my schedule and work toward my deadlines to get War’s Passion published this Fall.
I’m also starting a new blog post called Off the Page. On the third Saturday of each month I’ll post an scene involving my characters from one of my stories. It’ll be a look inside their lives beyond the book. The posts will be listed under the category Off the Page and will also have a page. So look for the first post on the third Saturday Of June (6/16).
Well that’s it from me this week. Stop over to Carrie Ann Ryan’s, Fated Desires Publishing, and Lacey Wolf’s blogs to see what’s new on their side of the internet.

Fresh Friday Reads: 5/18
Happy Friday!! I’m so glad it finally arrived. It has been a crazy busy week. So that means no reading for me, again.
I’m going to continue with series I read theme from last week. These three have books that are on my ever growing TBR pile.
I love the Decadent Publishing 1Night Stand series. There are over 100 books in the series and each one is unique–they are stand alones with 1NS dating service as the common them so there’s no reading order–and a lot of fun. I haven’t come close to reading them all, but I plan to.
JR Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series
This series started my love for adult paranormal romance. I love the world she created and, of course, her sexy vampires. Wrath and Rhage are my favs, but really I love them all. I’m waiting for a free weekend so I can do nothing but read Tohrment’s book, Lover Reborn. That way I don’t have any interruptions.
Kim Harrison’s The Hallow series
I know, this isn’t romance, it’s UF. But I still love the series. Rachel Morgan can really get herself into trouble. I have Prefect Blood sitting next to my desk waiting for me to dive in. This is another book where I need a couple of days of uninterrupted reading time.
Hop on over to Carrie Ann Ryan’s place to see her fresh reads for the week.

Guest Cate Masters talks about Weaving Unrelated Topics Into A Story
Weaving Unrelated Topics Into A Story
Have you ever read a news article that stayed with you long after you stopped reading it? That happens to me a lot. Too often, in fact. I’ll read a story and file it away in my head, and later read another story and it will hit me that wow, that would be cool combined with that other story I filed away in my head! Maybe it’s one of the quirks of being a writer. In any case, I’m thankful for it, because it often leads to a unique story.
Dead to Rights was exactly like that. I read a Time magazine article about underground militias – how they train their members, what weapons they use, how they mix ingredients for dirty bombs. Then another story about a fanatic church leader led to the death of one of its congregation – by a child, overly influenced by the teachings. Well, the church became a cult named The New Day Order, and its leader became a pawn of Satan’s, training his members militia-style to attack politicians. In the center of it all, exactly where she doesn’t want to be, is the heroine. Luckily, she has a little help from a warrior angel.
Do you like to read fiction based on real events? Do you prefer them to have a paranormal element, or stay true to life?
Dead to Rights is available from Decadent Publishing: http://www.decadentpublishing.com/product_info.php?products_id=500&osCsid=1rs5de21jcfh2ov3ikjhd26tk4
Dead to Rights

Cate Masters
Identity theft sucks. But it’s worse when someone steals your life—body included. All memory of her life before waking up in a mental facility has vanished. Or was erased. Now she has to figure out how to get it all back….
Her only hope of learning the truth lies with one man. Problem is, he’s the leader of a cult. Her only choice is to follow him into his sordid world, where a darker evil lurks.
With a little help from an archangel hellbent on revenge, she may have a chance to learn the truth. But will it force her to make the hardest decision of her life…or death?
I’d love for you to check out the Casting Call (who I imagined in these roles) and more at: http://catemasters.blogspot.com/2009/06/dead-to-rights-contemporary-paranormal.html
Excerpt
“Get off me,” I hissed, but somehow felt safe when he instead lifted his elbows on either side, shielding me.
A dangerous illusion. He was one of them, a weird ninja warrior. This smacked of a setup.
He murmured, “I told you, play along. No one will bother us if they think we’re making out.”
Oh, that’s a new one. But it held a ring of truth, though I worried he’d relay everything I said in person. “What the hell’s going on?”
He scanned the compound. “You’re lucky they didn’t shoot you.”
Funny, at close range, he couldn’t seem to look me in the eye. “No one ever said we couldn’t go for a freaking walk.”
“Not at night,” he said, “and never into the woods.”
Sounded like a bad Halloween flick. “Oh, seriously.” I shifted between his raised arms.
His eyes flashed bright in the darkness. “Fine. You want to know why not? Because all along the outer perimeter, camouflaged guards hide. Armed with automatic machine guns. That is, if you make it past the traps.”
So it had been the click of a gun. What the hell kind of traps? Too many questions raced through my head, so I simply asked, “Why?”
Sounding bemused, he said, “The reverend doesn’t like unannounced visitors.”
Except for horny females. “Or followers who stray, I guess.”
He went on. “In this area, no one questions gunfire, whether single shots or rapid fire, day or dead of night. No other member would question someone’s disappearance.”
Cold crawled across my skin. “So we’re prisoners.”
This seemed to cheer him. “Only technically.”
A laugh burst out. “Oh, I love your positive spin on the situation. But I take issue with its accuracy.” I studied him in the dim light. “If we’re not allowed in the woods, what were you doing out there?”
His voice deadpan, he said, “Saving you.”
Oh, that couldn’t have been the only reason. “You risked your life to follow me? Why?”
He grinned. “No one should be shot for ignorance.”

Character Interview with Emily and Colin from Second Chance
Happy Tuesday! I have Emily and Colin, the heroine and hero from Debbie Gould’s Second Chance, here today for an interview.
Welcome, Emily and Colin, and thanks for coming by. Please tell us about you: job, hobbies, special talents, and anything else you would want to share.
Emily: Right now I’m a stay at home mom. I have several degrees and some day may put them to use, but for now, I’m doing what make me the happiest.
Colin: I’m a Lieutenant in the Air Force and work in Special Ops, pararescueman to be exact, which brings about all kinds of special talents. Most importantly the ability to go behind enemy lines and rescue down pilots and crew. And, uh, Em? You forgot to tell them about your newfound talent.
Emily: (face flushes) I’m sure I don’t know what you mean.
Colin: The yoga, Emily, sheesh.
Emily: Ohhhhhh, yeah, the yoga. Colin’s team are a little upset that I told him he should add yoga to their PT (Physical Training) regimen. Goodness you should hear some of their complaints. If I didn’t know better If think they were a bunch of pansy’s.
Tell us about the first time you met.
Colin: We’ve known each other for years, but I’d have to say the first time I noticed her as more that a friend/sister-in-law, had to be about a year after my wife’s death. I’d taken Emily and the baby to a barbeque that a friend of ours was throwing. I couldn’t keep my eyes off her that night. The way she laughed with the other women and the obvious love she had for Izzy, my daughter, I guess you could say I saw Em in a whole new light.
Emily: And he fought it every step of the way.
Colin: Yeah, I did.
Emily: (smiles) We kissed that night.
Colin: Good God, did we?
Emily: And you ran even harder.
Colin: I did. My guilt over not being here when Tabitha died already held me like a vise grip. (grabs Emily’s hand) After that kiss, I wanted you so bad I ached. But I didn’t think I deserved you. I’d already let one woman down because of my job. I couldn’t risk it again.
Emily: Tabitha never felt that way.
Colin: Yeah. I know that now. (leans in and kisses her) Thanks to you.
Emily: Ummm…the interview.
Colin: Oh, uh, yeah. Where were we?
What drew you to each other?
Colin: God, what didn’t? Not only is she beautiful, but she cares so deeply about those in her life. The woman has a heart the size of Texas. She became a mother to my child without batting an eye at a time when she was grieving just as much as I was. She loves deeply and with everything she has.
Emily: (wipes away tears) His pain drew me at first. Even though I was going through my own, I had an adorable little girl, a precious part of my sister to help me through. Colin wouldn’t let himself get too close to Izzy, he wouldn’t stop punishing himself. In the beginning, his grief was just so unbearable to watch. But it was those moments that he eventually did let his baby in, when I caught the glimpses of infatuated love for his daughter that drew me to the man he is. Over the two years, I couldn’t help but fall for the guy.
What is your favorite part of each other?
Colin: Her heart. She loves full out, no barriers, just head on. She’s got a strength to her that I can only begin to try to match. It’s not easy for me to admit, but there are times when it’s her holding me together when it should be the other way around. This woman is my life. Well, then there’s her ass. She’s got a damn fine ass.
Emily: (smacks Colin on the arm) God, he’s such a man. Hmm. My favorite part of him. I guess I’d have to say the total package. (giggles) I mean, beyond all the emotional stuff we had to get through, the guy is a complete Alpha. Strong, oh my god, is he strong. He uses me as a bar bell sometimes, he’s ripped. But he’s the most generous and thorough lover a woman could want, and that’s all I’m saying.
Care to share future plans?
Emily: We’re getting married soon. Beyond that, it’s one day at a time. With him in the Air Force and Special Ops, he’s called away often, so we make the most of the time we have together while he’s here, and the homecomings are always that much more special.
Second Chance
By
Debbie Gould
Lieutenant Colin Beckett, US Air Force special ops, lost his wife in childbirth while off on a mission. Two years later, he’s still trying to come to grips with the guilt that tortures him. Struggling with his desire, he tells himself he doesn’t deserve a second chance with such an amazing woman.
Emily wants Colin in her life and her bed. Enlisting the help of Colin’s teammate’s and Madame Eve’s 1 Night Stand dating service, she plans to prove to Colin he can have everything he lost once again.
Will their one night lead to the happy ending she longs for or the loneliness he thinks he deserves?
Excerpt
Colin took a step back and cringed. “Aw, shit, Bobby. What’ve you done?”
Bobby punched Zeke in the shoulder and shook his head. “Nothing bad. Actually, it’s so simple you’re gonna kick your ass for not thinking of it first, Ghost.”
He doubted it. More than likely he would kick Bobby’s ass. The man worked overtime to hook him up, like he was a damn charity case. If he wanted to get laid, he could go find his own. Unfortunately, the only woman that spurred his senses in the last year had been Emily. He wanted her so bad he caught himself thinking about her during the day and woke up sweat-soaked and hard at night from dreaming about her.
Shit! Maybe he did need to get laid. “I repeat, what have you done?”
Zeke jumped up. “See, there’s this woman named Madame Eve––”
Colin threw his hands up. “Whoa, whoa, whoa! This is low even for you. I don’t need a freaking prostitute. Damn, Bobby. What the hell are you thinking?”
Bobby laughed. “Not that kind of madame. She runs an elite dating service and sets up one-night stands for consenting adults. It’s a no-strings-attached kind of thing. Just two like-minded adults looking for a night of pleasure. That’s it. You both go in with your eyes open and leave the next more feeling a lot less stressed.”
Colin crossed his arms over his chest and lifted a brow, “And how does she go about finding these people and matching them up?”
“Don’t worry I’ve checked it all out. You go on her website, fill out the application. Then she matches you up with someone who meets your needs. She names the date and place and the rest is on you. It’s all legit.”
“You sound like an infomercial.” Colin shook his head. “This is fucking crazy, ya know. I have no trouble finding my own women.”
“Never said you did, Lieutenant,” Zeke said. “But this way you don’t have to troll the bars, hoping to find a woman who wants to get her rocks off exactly like you. We know that’s not your scene, but this way everyone gets what they want and walks away happy.”
Bobby glared at Zeke. “Where the hell do you come from anyway?” He returned his gaze to Colin. “More like a night of mutual pleasure.”
“I have my own ways of relieving stress.”
Bobby snorted. “Uh, yeah. I’m not talking about whacking off in the shower, dude.”
Colin rubbed his hands over his face. Good God, had he really been reduced to this? “Fine.”
About Debbie
Born in Wichita Falls, Texas, at the age of two Debbie and her mother moved to New Jersey, spending many happy years on her grandparents’ horse farm. You’ll sometimes find this setting as a backdrop in her work.
As a teenager, she and her mother found a new home in Vermont, where she currently resides. With a daughter in the Air Force, one son in college and the other working for the family business, Debbie now shuffles her time between a husband and full time job as a nurse, and writing.
About seven years ago, while looking at over three hundred treasured books lining her shelves, she realized there was a multitude of stories of her own clamoring for release. Since then, she’s seriously persevered in keeping the keyboard in constant motion.
With two novels, Mountain’s Echo and Infidelity, and two novellas, November Rain and Second Chance now published, Debbie is now also working with a partner, L.J. Garland. Together the two have written Sins of the Mind and are hard at work on many more manuscripts.
Debbie has been a member of KOD, FTHRW, ELEMENTS and RWA Online.

Fresh Friday Reads: Current reads
Hello! Happy Friday and welcome to my first Fresh Friday Reads. I didn’t have time to read this week, or last, so I’m sharing my most recent series I’m following.
The Guild Hunter Series by Nalini Singh
This is a new to me series. Meaning I’m just starting it. I LOVE Nalini Psy-Changeling series, so I’m going to give her angels a try.
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she’s the best—but she doesn’t know if she’s good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear—failure is not an option…even if the task is impossible.
Because this time, it’s not a wayward vamp she has to track. It’s an archangel gone bad.
The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other…and pull her to the razor’s edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn’t destroy her, succumbing to Raphael’s seductive touch just may. For when archangels play, mortals break…
Mark of the Vampire Series by Laura Wright
I love Laura’s voice. And love her vampires. I read Enternal Captive back in February when it was released. It totally lived up to my expectations. I love Luca!
Can’t wait for book 4 to come out in August!
Since feeding her his blood, Lucian Roman has struggled with his obsession with Bronwyn Kettler-fighting an uncontrollable desire to kill her, if he has to, and the vampire she has sworn to wed. But when a dangerous enemy threatens Bronwyn, only Lucian can save her life. Even if it means sacrificing his own…
Charlie Davidson series by Darynda Jones
Love this new series. And I love the humor Darynda brings to the pages as well as that sexy Reyes. This is the first book in the series and a great start. I’ll be starting on book three very soon.
Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
Thanks for stopping by. For more Fresh Friday Reads hop over to Carrie Ann Ryan’s Blog.

Guest Cynthia Racette talks about Women’s Ficition
Most people don’t know what women’s fiction really is. Ask ten authors and you’ll get ten different answers. Well, lucky you, because I’m here to tell you what it is and what it isn’t.
One thing it definitely isn’t, is pure, strict romance and that shoots down half of our fictional responding authors right there. That said, maybe here would be a good opportunity to tell you what it isn’t, because that will help define what it is. Mainly, it’s what’s left. Women’s fiction is not paranormal, ever; it’s not a regency or Victorian novel; it’s not science fiction of any sort; there are no vampires, shape shifters or werewolves. Not a zombie in the bunch.
So, what’s left? Although many bookstores and libraries shelve WF and romance together, there are distinct elements that readers look for in the genre. It has evolved to include subjects and themes that range far beyond romance— in other words, romance and then some. It’s about women’s empowerment. Authors develop intricate and multi-charactered subplots and deeper characterization.
These books have more introspection and description and aren’t as tightly focused as shorter novels. Stories about sisters, and women’s friendships and families are common. Whether there is a happily ever after ending, or a bittersweet one, whether the reader laughs or cries, women love reading stories that touch their emotions-and tug at their hearts.
Windswept
by
Cynthia Racette
Windswept is a romantic novel of redemption and family values and fighting for what is important. Sailing Windswept has always been a family affair and many of Caroline and David Hartford’s fondest memories have taken place on Chesapeake Bay sailing in all kinds of conditions and exploring the bay.

He leaves her and she is forced to rely solely on herself for the first time in her life. She has to be a single parent to her daughter, Lily, and to decide if she can forgive David for tearing her family apart.
As David and Caroline work to put their marriage back together, events and other people conspire against them, over and over. Their relationship begins to heal, but the couple is caught in a horrific storm and waterspout on the bay, heading straight for Windswept. They want a chance to love again but Mother Nature might have other ideas.
About Cynthia
Cynthia has been writing all her life, as a newspaper reporter, editor and novelist. She even asked for (and received) a play typewriter for Christmas when she was about ten.
To be near her children and granddaughters, she and her newly retired hubby, moved to the Buffalo, NY area. Through her daughter, who is also a writer, she got hooked up with RWA (Romance Writers of America) and good things started to happen.
She is now writing more novels, taking lots of trips and relaxing by the pool on gorgeous summer days in Western, NY.
