Suddenly, Hayden blew through the door and headed straight for her. Heart pounding, Christa ducked his attempt to grab her, but in the dark, she was at a disadvantage. The shadows fucked with her head too much, and she stumbled over something on the floor.

Hayden was there in an instant. He gripped her by the upper arm, pulled her to a stand, and tucked her behind him. “Mom. Stop.”

The woman peered at Hayden, then Christa, and then back at Hayden and started to shake her head. “This is really fucked up.”

Can’t believe it’s been a year already

The first story in Ashwood Falls released last December. Winter Eve, the prequel, started out as a stand alone holiday story and morphed into the start of what became a great and successful series.

Ashwood Falls is so much fun to write. I love the big cats and the wolves, along with a few allies from other Packs that have been showing up lately. I’m thrilled that there are ten books in the series with the possible spin off series. I’m also happy to be releasing the 4th book in the series in about 2 weeks!  Almost the same date as Winter Eve released a year ago.

Ashwood Falls Glossary of Terms

Hello! I thought I’d share the Ashwood Falls glossary of terms. For your convenience,  this can be found on the side panel under “For Readers” header. As the series grows, I may add terms to this post.

Glossary of terms

Alpha – Leader of the Pack

Marshal (First born no matter the sex) – Leader of the enforcers and sentries. The Marshal will also step in to aid the Alpha in his duties when needed. If there isn’t an heir then a Marshal is appointed by the Alpha

Beta – Second born to the Alpha and/or second in command to the heir/Marshal. Generally takes care of Pack issues.

Enforcers – Enforces Pack laws and secures the safety of the den.

Sentries – Generally guards the outer boarders of the Pack property. They can be called in to aid an enforcer in fighting and enforcing the law.

Trackers – Skilled in tracking down rogues and eliminating them

Den mothers/maternal females – Strong and protective, yet not dominate by nature, they watch over the youth in the Pack. Generally work in the nursery and schools and other programs where the children and teens are concerned.

Justice – Pack lawyer with the special psychic ability to read memories through touch in order to place fair judgment on the accused and see the intent of outsiders that come to the den.

Empath – Can connect to the Pack though their emotions and offers comfort when needed and advices the Alphas and Marshals of potential issues between Pack members.

Scribe – Keeps the Pack history through the rare ability to pick up visions through touch. The ability works on objects and people. Many are loners and only like the company of other Scribes.

Rebels – There are two groups: shifters and humans. Shifter rebels had banned together to stop the Onyx and other rogues by force. Human rebels had banned together after discovering the shifter communities and seek to destroy all of them, good or bad.

Council of Elders – Past Alphas and Marshals that form a united ruling body over all Packs to ensure the laws of secrecy from humans are kept and enforced.

Elodie Parkes talks about her inspiration for her new release

Hi, thank you for inviting me to the blog today with my new Evernight Publishing release, ‘A Little Mysterious’.

I’m talking about the inspiration behind the book today.

I’ve had Dhruv in my mind for a couple of years, his name and his personality, but his looks and the complete story only gelled for me after a guy came into the place I work and he was ‘just Dhruv’. Right way I knew I’d met Dhruv. (Laughs)

I got the name from some work I did when I was on a traveling holiday in Australia. I had to book appointments for a company, and there was a client named Dhruv Mystery. I loved the name and stored it in my memory for future use, though my Dhruv doesn’t have a surname. Also, the sight of an entire flock of black swans swimming in a river estuary near where I rented a holiday home stayed with me until the story poured out onto my laptop after, as I said, actually ‘meeting Dhruv’.

The man, who was just passing through the antique emporium where I currently work, was just gorgeous. His looks are described exactly in the book. (Smiles)

Dhruv pulled her shirt up and drifted his hands around on her waist before he cupped her breasts and began to kiss her again. Dhruv almost bit into her, but stopped himself. He moved abruptly away from her to sit in the middle of the bench. She frowned and tried to edge closer, but Dhruv was spooked.

He stood up and looked down at her face. Her eyes were full of disappointment.

“I’ve got to go. I’ll see you tomorrow.” He turned, and walked swiftly and silently away over the lawn into the shadows. He sighed with regret as the darkness enveloped him. His hunger beat at him. The blood lust and the need for sex crippled him emotionally. He thought he would hunt mercilessly that night.
