A look ahead to 2014

Happy 2014! Now it’ll take me the next ten months to remember to put 2014 in dates. LOL

I stopped doing resolutions several years ago. I never stuck to them. When I started writing I started to set yearly goals of the things I want to accomplish by the end of the year. It’s easier for me to keep goals and reach them because they are things I work toward. Some of those goals are easily reached, others are a little challenging because I like to push myself just a little. It makes life interesting. ;)

Here are my goals for 2014.

Write 10 books. My writing schedule this year is a little scary. I have three series and two secret projects going. This means I have to focus more and increase my word count per day, possibly write two books at a time.
Publish 8 books. This is almost doubled the amount I published in 2013. As long as the first goal is being met, this one shouldn’t be hard to reach.
Stick to a work schedule. I’m still working like 10 hour days. I think my brain is still in the working 2 jobs mood. I’m going to stop my author/publishing work at 5:00 pm everyday and take Sundays off. This is easier said than done.
Have more time for me and Hubby. This will happen as long as the above goal happens.
Eat healthier. I’ve already started this one. By the end of the year, I’d like to cut out all processed foods and only buy and eat fresh foods. I’m also plan to learn to cut out a lot of the gluten from our foods and go organic. (be warned, I will be blogging about this one ;) )
Stay positive. Through mediation and positive thinking, I’m getting rid of everything negative. Now, I can’t cut my kids out of my life, but I can say, “Call me back when you can talk to me in a positive way.” They are known for pushing their issues off on me. I’m the first they call to vent about something. I’m mom. I fix and know all. But from now on, we’re dealing with it in a positive light.

Written out like that, it seems to be a lot to accomplish in one year. But really, it is totally doable for me. They are challenging, yet reachable. I hope everyone reaches there goals and hopes for the new year. Blessings, everyone ♥

A look back at 2013

NewYearHappy New Years Eve!

I remember when I was little how the older people in my life had said that older you get the faster time seems to go. Boy, they were so right!. It feels like I just started 2013 a few weeks ago. Let me tell you, a lot of great moments happened in those few weeks! LOL

My writing career started in 2012 with the publication of my first four books: Forgotten Visions, Death’s Storm,  Ravished Before Sunrise and Winter Eve. I started 2013 with a goal of publishing 4 more books. I meet that goal plus one!  That’s a total of 10 books released in the last two years.

So here’s what happened in 2013

March 2013A Tiger’s Claim (Ashwood Falls #1) released

May 2013Fated Desires Publishing turned 1 year old!

June 2013A Mating Dance (Ashwood Falls #2) released

July 2013 – (1) I became self employed and (2) Fated Desires opened its doors to submissions

September 2013 – (1) Surrendering to the Alpha (Ashwood Falls #3) released! and (2) I went to my first conference! I had so much fun at Lora Leigh’s RAW and meet so many new people and some authors I had admired for a while.

December 2013 – (1) Divided Loyalties (Ashwood Falls #4) released! (2) plotted a new contemporary series, and (3) War’s Passion (Sons of War #1) was completed and sent to my editor.

Wow, that a list of great events! I’m getting ready for an even better 2014. It will also be busier, which is great for me and Fated Desires.  Come back to the blog tomorrow to see what I have to look forward to in the New Year.

Be safe with your celebrating tonight!

Thursday’s Sensual Tease: Divided Loyalties

ThursSensualTeaseHello and happy Thursday. Today’s tease is from my latest release, Divided Loyalties. Enjoy!

A crooked grin was his reply before he stopped inches from her, looped one arm around her, and pulled her against his body, hard. Then his mouth was on hers, his tongue pushing through the seam of her lips. One of his hands glided up her back and into her hair, where he fisted a handful and pulled just enough to bring her into submission.

God, he tasted too good, like bittersweet chocolate.

He walked her backward until he had her pinned to the trunk of a large tree. Her skin felt as though it were on fire. Every inch of her was too sensitive, her body too aware of the dominating male who held her trapped.

In that moment she was too tired to fight. She wanted him like she’d wanted no one before. He ignited a need deep inside she couldn’t deny.

He broke the kiss and held her gaze for a brief moment. “I can’t hold back any longer.”

And she could fight the pull to him anymore. Breathless, she offered him a crooked smile and said, “Then don’t.”

An Ashwood Falls free read: Gift of Winter

Gift of Winter

An Ashwood Falls free read

Danica Welsh lit the last candle around the living room and scanned the small cabin as she bit her bottom lip. She never thought she’d be celebrating the first year anniversary of her mating. Hell she never dreamed she’d find a mate. A year ago she lived in this very cabin, which was located on the edge of the den, far enough away that she could be alone.

Now she was mated to a wonderful, caring, and loyal human male that she’d surrendered her heart and soul to.

Nevan was her world. He’d also brought her out of her self-pity and made her see that her scars weren’t what everyone saw when they looked at her. Accepting that fact, she gave up on hiding out from her Pack and work toward healing. Shay’s magickal potions helped bring back some of the feeling in her hand, making it possible for Dani to work as she was born to. As the leopard Pack Healer.

There was only one thing missing in her life.

After this weekend, she hoped to quiet that little nagging voice of her leopard…and her mother-in-law.

Her cell rang, making her jump. She picked it up from the kitchen counter and smiled at the name on the screen.

Shay. Her best friend.

“Hello, dear.”

“Hi! I’m so excited for you.”

Dani walked over to the couch and sat. “Well, I’m scared to death.”

“Don’t be. By the end of the weekend, every part of your body will ache in all the right ways.” Shay broke out into a fit of giggles.

Dani laughed. “What if he doesn’t want…?”

“Oh hush. He will. Don’t you ever doubt that. Now I called to give you a heads up. Nev is heading home early, which means you better be ready.”

Dani’s heart rate kicked up and the butterflies in her belly swarmed. “Okay. Thanks.”

“You will have a wonderful weekend with your mate. Stop worrying. I’ll see you on the flip side.”

Dani laughed again and said her good-byes to her bestie. She couldn’t imagine a life without her friends and extended family. Yet, she longed for a family of her own. Until now, she didn’t think it would ever be possible.

Nevan changed all that. Now it was her turn to gift him with something.

A family.

***

Nevan entered his home expecting his mate to greet him like she did every day, but the house was silent.

“Dani,” he called out, then walked farther into the living room.

He was about to drop his keys on the coffee table when he noticed a note. Dread cut through him. He knew this was coming. She’d said she would be going through her heat cycle soon. A wave of sadness washed over him.

Dani had said before that she wasn’t ready for children and Nevan respected she wishes. It didn’t mean that he had to like it.

Picking up the note, he unfolded it and read.

Forget everything you think you know upon finding this note. First, I love you with my heart, soul, and body. You are my world and my hero. Second, I’m entering my heat cycle and will be at the cabin for the weekend.

If you dare to be ravished by a hormonal leopard for the next three days, come join me.

Love always,

Dani

Nevan’s heart stopped for a long moment. He reread the note several times before it really sank in. He stood and rushed to the door, flung it open, and jumped at the sight of Blaine standing on his front porch.

Nevan shook his head. “I have to go. Whatever it is can wait until Monday.” He paused and thought for a moment. “No make that Wednesday.”

Pushing his way past the Alpha, Nevan damn near ran down the porch steps and to his car. Only Blaine’s words stopped him half way there.

“I know a faster way to get to your female.”

This was the only time Nevan welcomed the chance to be teleported by Blaine. “How did you know?”

Blaine shrugged. “Shay told me.”

Nevan chuckled. “Figures. I love that sister of yours.”

Blaine smiled. “Yeah, me too. Even though she’s still a brat.”

Nevan shook his head and moved to stand next to the Alpha. Blaine gripped his bicep, then with a flash of white light they dematerialized.

Bracing one hand against a large oak, Nevan took deep, slow breaths. He’d never get use to teleportation. It was so disorienting that he felt ill for a few moments after.

He glanced at Blaine, then straightened to his full height. “I’m fine. You can leave now.”

Blaine gave a low chuckle as he flashed away.

Nevan stared at the small cabin where his new life started almost a year ago. He was about to start a new one. He took the steps two at a time and when he reached the door, it opened. His beautiful and amazing mate stood in a sheer black, floor-length night gown. Her strawberry blond hair hung loose around her shoulders.

She looked to the sky and sniffed the air. A wide smile spread across her face, enhancing her beauty even more. “Looks like we may be snowed in.”

He stepped into her, snaked an arm around her waist and tugged her to him so their bodies pressed together. Too bad he had his clothes on. “I like being snowed in with you.”

She didn’t speak, she just peered into his eyes. He could feel her nervousness and a hint of fear. “What is it?”

“Are you sure you want to start a family with me?”

He pulled his head back to study her features. “Of course. Why would you ever doubt that?”

She averted her gaze. “I don’t know. It’s not like you fought over my decision to wait.”

He wrapped both arms around her, walked her a few steps back, and closed the door behind them. “I didn’t want to push you. I figured we have another few hundred years. But I was going to start leaving hints around the house after the first century.”

She laughed and squeezed him tight. “I love you, Nevan Matthews.”

He kissed her quick and hard before replying. “I love you too, Danica Welsh-Mathews.”

Meet the hero of The Zoastra Affair by Victoria Pinder

lunapic_136420528898493_13Cross’ Personal Profile

His friend and neighbor, Rosemarie Mortlock, has filled this out for him. Supposedly, Cross isn’t seeking a woman, or so he says. So I’m pushing him along.

Cross: Real Name well you’ll have to ask him.

Origin: Canada. He keeps that to himself too.

Height: 6’ 4” so he’s tall with muscles that he keeps up.

Job: Chief Security Officer on an elite space ship, the Zoastra. He’s the guy with his hands on the weapons. We all trust him to keep him say.

His favorite food: Poutine. He’s Canadian. But other than that just grill him a steak and he’s good. And he’s more a beer drinker, if he must drink, but he can be high class. He can pick the best bottle of wine. Most of the time, the man doesn’t drink though.

His Likes: Cross tends to be a loner, so you are going to have to earn his trust. He avoids talking, and if he wants any woman, he does his ‘ignore’ and he gets her routine. The routine isn’t planned. The man’s been hurt and avoids women. But he was my neighbor, until I moved in with my love. Once you earn Cross’s trust he’s a great guy. Heck if I wasn’t already taken, I’d never put this advertisement together for him. He’ll fix anything I ask him too, and he helped me get the love of my life to say yes. Cross is an old school gentleman underneath his avoidance issues. Don’t fall for those piercing brown eyes. Instead work on trust and you’re golden.

Oh he’s big on honesty. Don’t lie to him.

And as this is a personal ad, I’ve seen the man do his laundry. He’s a briefs guy. I’m hoping the woman who moves in next door can be a good friend and get the guy to trust others again. Handsome, sweethearts like my neighbor Cross deserve to fall in love.

Sincerely,

Lieutenant Rosemarie Mortlock, Communications Officer on the Zoastra.

The Zoastra Affair

by Victoria Pinder

Length: 85000 words

Coming December 30th from Soul Mate Publishing.

Blurb:

A hundred years from now, Earth has trading partners with alien beings, mostly humanoid. However, going into space brought forth an unknown enemy who attacks Earth at will.

The Zoastra is part of the Earthseekers, an organization originally designed to go into space. Its new mission is to find Earth’s enemies.

Ariel is stuck on a Victorian planet and steals Grace’s body and life to get off the planet. Grace must get her body back before Ariel bonds with Grace’s husband, Peter. Then there is Cross, the man on a mission to find those who killed his family. Ariel is attracted to Cross, but she’s stolen someone’s life.

Excerpt:

Twenty Second Century

Sheraton Home World

I’m going to have to steal someone else’s body to get out of here.

“Ariel, are you listening?”

Ariel Transcender stared dumbfounded at the mother superior of her prison, a/k/a Aulnale School for Orphans. “Yes, mistress.”

She had no idea what happened, though she pasted a fake simpering smile of appreciation on her face. Ms. Rochelle walked away.

A few minutes later, Ariel looked out the window again, tuning out Rochelle’s mind numbing lecture on what was proper behavior when near a man. The boarding home on this planet gave the stupidest lectures of the galaxy. Her lips curled into a sneer. Women were not excited to be bound to men.

Could I do this to someone else? Do I have any other choice?

Lenchena, the teenage girl who’d stolen her adult body and taken off on Ariel’s ship, needed to be found. And Ariel refused to listen to the daily drivel about always listening to a man.

No longer on her planet, Grinocx, she did her best to understand this planet’s culture. Order made sense, but the Sheratons never made sense. Her gaze wandered to the well-manicured lawn designed for ostentatious parties. Not paying attention, Ariel’s mind still picked up a few phrases in the lecture, please a man, be agreeable, and do whatever is asked with a smile, floated in the air.

Lenchena’s voice became animated as she told them, “Ferula can be used on your future husband to ensure he finds completion even if you are too tired to perform your duties. However, with your husband, do this sparingly or else he’ll find you a lazy wife.”

Ariel blinked after that statement. Another grueling lecture on pointless marriage and sex. Blah, blah, blah. Her people, Grinders, didn’t believe in love and mating only to reproduce. Being stuck on Sheraton where the women dressed in long dresses, caring for homes with neatly cut green grass, and doing nothing more exciting than watching the pink dawns, while the men held careers in outer space, had never been her plan.

Was she really sitting in a lecture on how to please the male species? She rolled her eyes. Seriously? No, she refused to listen to this nonsense. The words ‘ladies never say no’ reverberated behind her back and made her face pucker.

Ariel schooled her features, pretending to listen to the school master, Ms. Rochelle. The woman had no heart. No one had listened to Ariel when she had cried for days and days that some young teenager had switched bodies with her, trapping her in this alien hell. Rochelle had dragged her back to school, and kept her under lock and key.

Hope became fleeting after that, while the years ticked past. For the past four years, she’d been training at the all-girls school for orphans on how to be a proper maid and housewife.

The twenty-five years of her life training to be an engineer, then serving on the starship Tygra, then the sistership Thrycer, had been stolen.

Now that this body was almost of marriageable age, Ms. Rochelle, cursed school teacher, paraded Ariel out of the orphanage to find her a match. Every week or special event needing service, Ariel had on the job training with heavy supervision, pointing out Ariel’s light pink hair and ability to be a serviceable wife to a working man. Pink hair girls are sweethearts. Yeah right. That lowlife bottom-feeding insect, Lenchena, had stolen her body and her life.

Ariel had stopped complaining years ago because it got her nowhere. She was on her own and needed to find a way out of this body and back to her ship. With the almost age of marriage upon her, it was now or never. Then Ariel was going to find that little twit who stole her body and make her pay for stranding her on this backward planet.

“In a few weeks Ariel will be leaving us. Heading toward marriage with Massimo?” Ms. Rochelle’s voice pulled her back into the lecture.

“Err . . .” Massimo, with his hovercraft, became convenient transportation to leave the school with permission, but marriage? The boy dreamed of owning a restaurant with a pretty wife. She’d find a way off the planet, when she wasn’t being observed or offered for marriage to every low level non-space going man on this planet. Time ticked fast now.

“Ariel is lucky to have found a man so interested in her beauty, he can overlook her status.”

Ariel’s mouth tightened and she lowered her head to hide her scowl. No. Massimo was a child, too. Getting her body back from the child thief, Lenchena, mattered far more. This body was now strong. Away from the ever-watchful teacher, she’d have her chance for escape at one of the upcoming diplomatic events where she’d be a maid or serve others dinner. Plus, Sheratons mated for life, something Ariel refused to believe in. But in order not to draw attention to herself, she played along. “Um, yes. I am.”

A group of male soldiers marched past the closed door of the school room. The females in the class twisted around to catch a glimpse of them. Ariel didn’t join her classmates in staring and drooling at the opposite sex.

Pathetic.

Why did these aliens keep males and females separate until marriage? The customs of this world never ceased to amaze her. The teacher taught the virgin teenagers to expect women to fall into orgasm whenever a man’s hand grazed her body. Seriously? Had they never had sex before? In her memory, sex hadn’t been that all-encompassing.

For the past four years she’d been stuck in this body, living through alien teenage hormones. The sexually denied tightness irritated her body, and her mind longed to be back working on a single engine design. On the Thrycer, she’d run a top design engine room, winning numerous awards for ingenuity on a space ship. Then she’d joined the boarding party to Sheraton, being told the planet was a relaxing and safe tranquil spa. Lies.

If Ariel let them, these alien hormones would dull her reaction time in the girl’s leftover body that held her consciousness. She’d managed to keep slim and fit with exercise as she bided her time until she found a way to her freedom, and got her body and life back. When she finished this, she’d fix everything. She’d force the girl who stole from her to return with the borrowed body to make the final switch and right everything.

professionalpic2About the Author:

Victoria Pinder grew up in Irish Catholic Boston before moving to the Miami sun. She’s worked in engineering, after passing many tests proving how easy Math came to her. Then hating her life at the age of twenty four, she decided to go to law school. Four years later, after passing the bar and practicing very little, she realized that she hates the practice of law. She refused to one day turn 50 and realize she had nothing but her career and hours at a desk. After realizing she needed change, she became a high school teacher. Teaching is rewarding, but writing is a passion.

During all this time, she always wrote stories to entertain herself or calm down. Her parents are practical minded people demanding a job, and Victoria spent too many years living other people’s dreams, but when she sat down to see what skill she had that matched what she enjoyed doing, writing became so obvious. The middle school year book when someone wrote in it that one day she’d be a writer made sense when she turned thirty.

When she woke up to what she wanted, the dream of writing became so obvious. She dreams of writing professionally, where her barista can make her coffee and a walk on the beach, can motivate her tales. Contemporary romances are just fun to write. She’s always thinking whose getting hurt and whose story is next on the list to fall in love. Victoria’s love of writing has kept her centered and focused through her many phases, and she’s motivated to write many stories.
