New Event: Networking for Success

Shrewd networking and relationship building is what often separates the winners in business, corporate and social life.

In my own life and career my network – and networking for my own own personal, professional and business growth has led to all sorts of opportunities and possibilities. So many differing things have come from it: great connections, customers, business partnerships, friendships, financial rewards, great suppliers, speaking opportunities, a book deal and so much more. If you are your own boss then it is absolutely essential – and increasingly even if we are employed it’s those who are well networked and skilled at networking opportunities who will win opportunities for themselves and their company.

12 things that progressive people never do…

3fb5b5a

Guest Blog by Jessica Huie MBE,

founder of ColourBlind Cards and  Jessica Huie Public Relations

1.   Deflect or deny responsibility for their cock-ups. The ability to take ownership of a mistake or failure, is imperative for growth both professional and personal. Progressive people hold their hands up, make amends and learn from their error, garnering respect in the process.

2.   Disconnect from their inner self. Call it your soul, conscience or God. Progressive people are acutely aware of a level of consciousness, which goes beyond the mind, and the benefit of harnessing the power and creativity within us, by switching off from distractions.

3.   View their situation as impossible. While life might be challenging, progressive people quickly recognise that there are always options available to us to improve or change our experience – and that adjusting our mind-set is the first step to improvement.

4.   Eat junk and processed food often/consistently. Progressive people understand the correlation between what we put into our bodies and how we perform mentally, physically and emotionally.

5.   Remain in painful relationships. Whether partner or friend, progressive people are mindful of the importance of stimulating their minds with uplifting and healthy thoughts and conversations. If friendships or relationships become destructive or unhealthy, progressive people seek resolutions or cull.

6.   Compromise their integrity. Progressive people realise that integrity – doing the right thing even when nobody is around, is a golden quality which is truly invaluable. Integrity can open doors which academia, material wealth and even connections cannot.

7.   Neglect their health and fitness. Exercise leads to increased energy, mental focus, confidence, and can aid depression. Committing to consistent exercise requires dedication and resilience when you are exhausted – both qualities which cross over and benefit progressive people in their professional lives.

8.   Lead monotonous lives. Progression is aided by an intake of new information and experiences, So progressive people travel to new places, experiment with new hobbies and live full lives outside of the safety of their comfort zone.

9.   Resent the success of others. Progressive people may study the success of others for insight into how they achieved, but jealousy and resentment are not characteristics of confident and self assured individuals.

10.  Describe themselves as ‘broke.’ Progressive people are too concerned with finding a solution to their financial challenge to dwell on the challenge itself.

11.  Neglect their appearance. The desire to be the best version of themselves rather than vanity, drives the progressive to maintain a polished image. How we care for ourselves correlates with our level of self worth, and progressive people recognise that self worth is a strong foundation for self-development, happiness and success.

12.  Believe their own hype. Progressive people self regulate by observing their own behaviours and attitudes, to check in and ensure they are just. The ability to constructively self-talk is even more important than having enough humility to accept constructive criticism from others.

10 Wonderful Years, 1,000s of wonderful people

Rapport_39(Cover)Well wishes on the social media site Linked In have just reminded me that it’s been 10 wonderful years that I’ve been running my coaching business – and that’s just full time. It’s been the most wonderful journey meeting so many remarkable, magical and gifted people.

Over the those years I’ve coached somewhere between 200-350 individuals one to one and I’ve addressed MANY thousands of more at workshops, talks, seminars, conferences, shows and exhibitions. In fact I’ve no idea how many people that has been. But I can tell you that all of it has been a pleasure.

One of those thousands of people I have met, coached and worked with may well have been you. Or you may be among the thousands of people who I have never met who have read one of my books, read my newsletter, watched some of the videos on YouTube or read one of the articles.

There are so many high points doing a job like this that it is almost impossible to single any out. But really the high points and real rewards is when someone simply tells you how much something that you said, writes, shared or coached them with helped them.

Over the years I’ve had clients and former clients tell me that everything on their to do list from a new job, relationships / marriage, confidence-belief etc has been achieved and ticked off. It’s amazing when someone takes the spirit of coaching or a self / career development workshop and really runs with it.

Thank you so much and I wish you a wonderful year ahead

New Year 2015: How to make your resolutions & goals succeed

While millions of us will set New Years Resolutions and goals most will fall off the wagon within weeks because we’re not strategic, holistic or realistic enough says life coach to stars, entrepreneurs and the public Rasheed Ogunlaru.

Launching his 3 Tips for Resolutions That Stick Rasheed says:

“The most common resolutions are kicking a habit like smoking and drinking or about dieting and getting fit. We fail because 1) We set goals/resolutions we ‘think’ we should – often based on society/peer pressures so we don’t ‘own our own goals.’ 2) Because we don’t put in a plan and support and 3) Because these goals like getting fit are set in the abstract rather than looking at our life as a whole.

Rasheed who is also life/business coach partner to the British Library and author of The Gift of Inner Success and Soul Trader – Putting the Heart Back into Your Business adds: “The key to success is stepping back, owning your goals and setting 2-3 goals strategically in the context of your entire life and work, and getting the support you need to succeed.”

Rasheed’s 3 Tips for Resolutions That Stick

1) Holistic:

* Look at your life as a whole rather than just one aspect of it

* Write a short list of what’s most important to you in life / work overall

* Now set one goal that your really motivated about for 1) You/ your health 2) Personal life / relationships 3) Your career.

2) Strategic

* Write a short 1 page plan of action for your goals; this marks commitment

* Make sure each goal is clear and specific with a clear outcome

* Ensure you set a apt timeframe and break the goal into steps

3) Realistic

*What work, effort, mindset & actions will be required? List it step by step

* Identify what help / support you need – eg a friend/ trainer to get fit with

* Make your plans real: plan, schedule, review, fine-tune and change it.

Review your year

2015 is just around the corner but before it arrives take 10 minutes to step back and review your year.

At this tail end of the year we can often forget to just take a moment to take all the learning out of the year before we move on. But it’s only really when you reflect that you can really give yourself credit, that you can really get a strong sense of where you are and that you can move further toward your potential.

Perhaps for you it’s been a tough year, a year of change, a year of growth, a time of consolidation. All sorts of things may have happened personally or professionally – at home, in your health or at work.

This short 6 minute video will help you to identify your accomplishments, challenges and learning – and to focus on what your priorities should / need to be for 2015. So grab a pen and paper and enjoy.
