Cover Reveal: Greed (Book 2 in the Seven Deadly Series) by Fisher Amelie

Gather ‘round, love, because I want you. I want what you have, I want what you don’t have, I want more of what I already have. I want. But if you so much as ask for something in return, go ahead and walk away. Know if you want to play in my world, it’s every man for themselves and the weak become mine. Leeches will be obliterated because I make it my job to destroy them. I protect what’s mine and I take what’s yours...because that’s what I do. I want.

My story will not endear me to you and, frankly, I could care less if it does because I’m in this for the money and nothing else. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a corrupt, money hungry, immoral asshole from Los Angeles. I’m every man’s worst nightmare and every girl’s fantasy.

I’m Spencer Blackwell...And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most coveted guy to the guy no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.
GREED Goodreads: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17795023-greed?ac=1 (Releases Fall 2013)
And if that wasn't an awesome enough cover, Book 1 in the Series, Vain, also got a cover lift!
If you’re looking for a story about a good, humble girl, who’s been hurt by someone she thought she could trust, only to find out she’s not as vulnerable as she thought she was and discovers an empowering side of herself that falls in love with the guy who helps her find that self, blah, blah, blah...then you’re gonna’ hate my story.

Because mine is not the story you read every time you bend back the cover of the latest trend novel. It’s not the “I can do anything, now that I’ve found you/I’m misunderstood but one day you’ll find me irresistible because of it” tale. Why? Because, if I was being honest with you, I’m a complete witch. There’s nothing redeeming about me. I’m a friend using, drug abusing, sex addict from Los Angeles. I’m every girlfriend’s worst nightmare and every boy’s fantasy.

I’m Sophie Price...And this is the story about how I went from the world’s most envied girl to the girl no one wanted around and why I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.

And how about a sneak peak at the titles for the rest of the books in the Seven Deadly Series

Pretty cool, huh?

Review: Hover by Melissa West

Hover (The Taking, #2)
On Earth, seventeen-year-old Ari Alexander was taught to never peek, but if she hopes to survive life on her new planet, Loge, her eyes must never shut. Because Zeus will do anything to save the Ancients from their dying planet, and he has a plan.

Thousands of humans crossed over to Loge after a poisonous neurotoxin released into Earth's atmosphere, nearly killing them. They sought refuge in hopes of finding a new life, but what they became were slaves, built to wage war against their home planet. That is, unless Ari and Jackson can stop them. But on Loge, nothing is as it seems...and no one can be trusted

**NOTE: Because of the way Gravity  ended this can't be a spoiler-free review. If you haven't read  Gravity, STOP READING NOW**

Ok, so first off the cover. Gracious the covers for Gravity (The Taking #1)  and Hover are stunning. LOVE space pics so I love these covers.

Now onto the good stuff...

All right. So Ari is stuck on Loge in the hospital. Her only contact has been with the healers (her fav is Emmy) and Jackson. She has no clue what's happened to the other humans or what is taking place on Earth.  Add to that as a new Ancient she now has to be evaluated by Loge's top healers and placed into one of the four "work" sectors, which means she could end up being a spy against her own planet if she's placed as an RES. Likelihood of this: HIGH. She was training to be the Commander on Earth after all.

Enter Zeus, all around bad dude, leader of Loge, and Jackson's grandfather. Feared by Loge, and hated by Jackson, Zeus believes Ari has information that will help him invade Earth and subjugate it.

Ari is still having trust issues with Jackson. He failed to tell her who he really was and so now she questions nearly everything he tells her, and though she is still attracted to him, she can't forget that he lied to her.

Jackson, now back on home turf, is both the same and different. His feelings for Ari haven't changed, but back on his planet he doesn't have to hide his identity--or his abilities--and has a large leadership role with the RESs (Logean spies) that reveals a whole other side of him.

I loved seeing Jackson back home. While there was always a bit of a question about his true motives on Earth, on Loge you get to see Jackson. Both the good and the bad and the heartbreaking. He becomes a much more rounded, like-able/sympathetic character. And I REALLY liked him in this book. Ari grows tremendously in Hover. Once, only concerned with Earth and humans--the black and white of things--Ari begins to see the shades of gray, and her relationship with Jackson changes because of this.

With help from some wonderful secondary characters, Ari comes up with a plan that she hopes will not only save the humans stuck on Loge, but the Logeans destined to perish along with their planet.

Will it work? I DON'T KNOW BECAUSE IT WAS A CLIFFHANGER ENDING THAT KIIIIIIIIILLED!!

However, I still highly recommend. It was a fabulous follow-up to a great debut. Hover is available August 13 so you have time to pick up Gravity  here and get it read before your pre-order of Hover arrive. :)

Happy BOOK-iversary to Steph and Liz!

I had the privilege of meeting these two lovely ladies at Decatur Book Fest last year (as we all melted into oblivion) and TODAY is the anniversary for their first joint venture Lengths. To celebrate, there's a giveaway and Lengths will be on sale Today through August 11th. Check out all the deets below and go tell them happy anniversary. If you've already read it, and haven't left a review that would make an AWESOME present for them :)
Nineteen-year-old Whit Conrad leaves her conservative Pennsylvania home for sunny California, looking for independence, a fresh start, and a place to stash her grief. She promptly finds a job at a tattoo parlor, a craptastic first apartment, and one friend—Ryan—who is a little less friend, a little more benefits.

Deo Beckett is a soulful surfer with a passion for tattoos and beautiful women. On the eve of his twenty-second birthday, he finds himself living with his grandfather, recently unemployed, and seriously adrift. He doesn’t know much about what he wants out of life, but he does know his current situation isn't cutting it.

When Deo meets Whit, she’s all sexy makeup and fierce, smart-ass fun. It doesn’t take him long to see past her tough shell. And when he gets a good look at what's under all the superficial stuff that usually gets his attention, it leaves Deo wondering if there might be more to life than living fast and free.

Too bad Whit has a past she doesn't plan on sharing—no matter how hot Deo is. She might want him, but she knows better than to let her guard down.

Deo falls for Whit, and falls hard. But everything about her, down to that mysterious tattoo and the way she thrashes in her sleep, tells him that the girl he loves is hiding something. And the more he pushes for answers, the more Whit pulls away.

Having your guard up is one thing, but are the lengths Whit goes to to protect her secret worth throwing away the second chance she has at happiness with Deo?

Review A Tale of Two Centuries by Rachel Harris

A Tale of Two Centuries (My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century, #2)
Alessandra D’Angeli is in need of an adventure. Tired of her sixteenth-century life in Italy and homesick for her time-traveling cousin, Cat, who visited her for a magical week and dazzled her with tales of the future, Alessandra is lost. Until the stars hear her plea.
One mystical spell later, Alessandra appears on Cat’s Beverly Hills doorstep five hundred years in the future. Surrounded by confusing gadgets, scary transportation, and scandalous clothing, Less is hesitant to live the life of a twenty-first century teen…until she meets the infuriating—and infuriatingly handsome—surfer Austin Michaels. Austin challenges everything she believes in…and introduces her to a world filled with possibility.

With the clock ticking, Less knows she must live every moment of her modern life while she still can. But how will she return to the drab life of her past when the future is what holds everything she’s come to love?

Ever since I read My Super Sweet Sixteenth Century I've been dying for this book. I love the Renaissance era (so much so that I had a Ren. wedding) and so enjoyed MSSSC, that when it ended on it's, ahem, slight cliffhanger I kind of wanted to hunt Rachel down and steal this manuscript.
ATOTC picks up (at least for Less) two years after Cat's visit to the past. Alessandra is mostly content in her life as she waits for her upcoming marriage, but missing her cousin. Events occur that leave Less feeling rattled, and frustrated and longing for something more when our favorite gypsy appears to grant her wish.
Less and Cat are reunited and a story concocted to explain Alessandra's sudden appearance at the Crawford house. Disguised as a foreign exchange student, Less must attempt to fit into a world very different from her own. She is reserved and has unusual speaking patterns. She dresses conservatively and finds it difficult to stand up for herself, but when the cute (but annoying guy) who sits next to her in American Government is disrespectful to the teach Less reaches her limit.
Now, she and Austin--the epitome of surfer boy, laissez faire attitude--have to complete a project together, and he's having none of it. He works a deal with Less. If she'll come on "adventures" of his choosing then he'll help with the project. This is when the fun really begins and when Less finds out what she's made of.
Cat plays a big part in this book as Alessandra's "guide" to all things 21st Century. We also get more of Lucas who we met at the end of MSSSC (WOOHOO).
This was such a fun read, and I read it one sitting. Harris does a great job of maintaining Less's formal internal dialog and transitioning it to less formal as she becomes more comfortable in her new century. Less was sweet and funny and I really enjoyed watching her, eventually, fully embrace the freedoms she had available.
Austin is a great foil for Less--her formaility and rigidness vs. his complete laid back attitude--and it's great to see him reconsider his choices the more Less rubs off on him and vice versa as well.
A Tale of Two Centuries, had me smiling at the end and on a bit of a book high. If you're looking for a quick, light, easy, fun read I highly recommend you check it out.
About the Rachel Harris: I grew up in New Orleans, where I watched soap operas with my grandmother and stayed up late sneak reading my mama’s favorite romance novels. Now a Cajun cowgirl living in Houston, I still stay up way too late reading my favorite romances, only now, I can do so openly. I firmly believe life’s problems can be solved with a hot, powdered-sugar-coated beignet or a thick slice of king cake, and that screaming at strangers for cheap, plastic beads is acceptable behavior in certain situations.

When not typing furiously or flipping pages in an enthralling romance, I homeschool my two beautiful girls and watch reality television with my amazing husband.

I write YA, NA, and Adult Fun & Flirty Escapes. Taste The Heat is my adult romance debut, and I'm also the author of MY SUPER SWEET SIXTEENTH CENTURY and A TALE OF TWO CENTURIES, as well as a ton of other books to come. I love hearing from readers and dishing books!

Great follow up to MSSSC, review later this week!

Infinityglass (Hourglass #3) by Myra McEntyre

14289306
The stakes have risen even higher in this third book in the Hourglass series.

The Hourglass is a secret organization focused on the study of manipulating time, and its members — many of them teenagers -have uncanny abilities to make time work for them in mysterious ways. Inherent in these powers is a responsibility to take great care, because altering one small moment can have devastating consequences for the past, present, and future. But some time travelers are not exactly honorable, and sometimes unsavory deals must be struck to maintain order.

With the Infinityglass (central to understanding and harnessing the time gene) at large, the hunt is on to find it before someone else does.

But the Hourglass has an advantage. Lily, who has the ability to locate anything lost, has determined that the Infinityglass isn't an object. It's a person. And the Hourglass must find him or her first. But where do you start searching for the very key to time when every second could be the last?

I love the covers to this series. Top of the TBR!

Here Without You (Between the Lines #4)  by Tammara Webber

17158158
Everyone has secrets.
Some are buried so deep, their existence is forgotten.
But a secret never told can turn into a lie.
And in love, a lie is one thing:
Poison.

Reid's in love with Dori, though she hasn't told her parents that she's fallen hard for the guy they'd forbidden her to see. Now she's leaving for college, and Reid's promise not to push her to go public is wearing thin, especially when she can't - or won't - return those three important words he wants to hear.

Five years ago, Brooke and Reid were a Thing. That relationship is long gone, detonated amid allegations of cheating - but they still share a secret that would stun everyone they know and alter public perception of them both if it ever comes out. And it's about to do just that.

Here Without You is the fourth, final installment in the Between the Lines series, which includes: Between the Lines, Where You Are, and Good For You.

Finished in the wee hours this a.m. and good gracious people. ALL. THE. FEELS. Reid is now up there with Graham. That's huge y'all. Review to come soon.

If You Leave(Beautifully Broken #2) by Courtney Cole

17454088
26-year old Gabriel Vincent is a badass hero. Or he used to be, anyway. As an ex-Army Ranger, Gabe never thought he needed anyone. But after one horrible night in Afghanistan scars him in a way that he can't get past, he needs someone who can help him heal...even if he doesn't realize it.

25-year old Madison Hill doesn't need anybody...or so she thinks. She grew up watching her parents' messed-up abusive relationship and she knows there's no way in hell that she's ever letting that happen to her.

They don't know it in the beginning, but Gabriel and Madison will soon develop a weakness: Each other.

But Gabriel's got a secret, a hidden monster that he's afraid Maddy could never overcome... And Maddy's got issues that she's afraid Gabe will never understand. They quickly realize that they need each other to be whole, but at the same time they know that they've got demons to fight.

And the problem with demons is that they never die quietly.

Follow-up to her deliciously shocking If You Stay. Can't wait to get to this one.

And finally, it's not a new release, technically, but it IS with the new cover and in paperback so...

Review: Asunder by Jodi Meadows

Asunder (Newsoul, #2)
DARKSOULS
Ana has always been the only one. Asunder. Apart. But after Templedark, when many residents of Heart were lost forever, some hold Ana responsible for the darksouls–and the newsouls who may be born in their place.

SHADOWS
Many are afraid of Ana’s presence, a constant reminder of unstoppable changes and the unknown. When sylph begin behaving differently toward her and people turn violent, Ana must learn to stand up not only for herself but for those who cannot stand up for themselves.

LOVE
Ana was told that nosouls can’t love. But newsouls? More than anything, she wants to live and love as an equal among the citizens of Heart, but even when Sam professes his deepest feelings, it seems impossible to overcome a lifetime of rejection.

In this second book in the Newsoul trilogy, Ana discovers the truth about reincarnation and will have to find a way to embrace love and make her young life meaningful. Once again, Jodi Meadows explores the extraordinary beauty and shadowed depths of the soul in a story equal parts epic romance and captivating fantasy.

Asunder begins not long after the devastation from Incarnate. Anna is feeling even more ostracized then before and asks Sam to go away with her. They end up at the house Anna shared with her mother before arriving at Heart and it's a bit of a reprieve for Anna until a "new" man enters the picture. A new love interest? A rival for Sam's affections? I'm not going to tell you other than to say he is important to them both--in different ways--by the end of the book.

With more sylph and dragon attacks, and with the sylph now acting differently toward Anna, she becomes desperate for answers--about the sylph, about new souls, and about the temple itself--and what she finally discovers will change everything. I was completely SHOCKED at the turn of events. Fortunately, Meadows is kind enough to not leave us on a complete cliffhanger and we have a solid (though not finished) ending. So while many questions are answered, what Anna will do with the information she now has remains to be seen.

I can't wait for the final book in the series.

Review: Darker Days by Jus Accardo

Darker Days (The Darker Agency, #1)
Jessie Darker goes to high school during the day, but at night she helps with the family investigation business. Cheating husbands and stolen inheritances? They’re your girls—but their specialty is a bit darker. Zombie in your garage? Pesky Poltergeist living in your pool? They’ll have the problem solved in a magical minute. For a nominal fee, of course...

When gorgeous new client, Lukas Scott, saunters into the office requesting their help to find a stolen box, it sounds like a simple case—until the truth comes out. The box is full of Sin.

Seven deadly ones, in fact.

They’ve got five days to recapture the Sins before they're recalled by the box, taking seven hijacked human bodies with them. Easy peasy—except for one thing...

There’s a spell that will allow the Sins to remain free, causing chaos forever. When the key ingredient threatens the life of someone she knows, Jessie must make the ultimate choice between love and family—or lose everything.

When I got the email telling me I'd been one of the names drawn for Jus Accardo's new PNR series I was super excited. I love her Denezen series so was looking forward to reading this one (even though I'm getting a bit burnt out on series again.)

Fortunately, Darker Days doesn't disappoint. Jessie is a (not so) typical teen who works with her mom in their P.I. firm. While they take on normal cases, such as missing persons, or cheating significants, their specialty is...Otherwordly.

Enter Lukas who turns out to be not only a client but a little other-worldly himself. Tied to Wrath by a wicked, wicked witch, Lukas seeks out the Darkers help in order to put the sins back in the box they've been released from before they end up killing the people they've possessed. Easy enough...except for the surprise twists Accardo throws in along they way.

I really liked the relationship between Jessie and her mom. While there was a more friendly aspect then I would expect of most teen/mom relationships, Mom still retained authority while giving Jessie some autonomy.

Lukas and Jessie are great foils for each other modern day woman vs. Mr. Old-fashioned and was a lot of fun to see their feelings for each other change and grow. There were a couple times I wanted to smack Jessie upside the head for doing stuff even SHE knew was stupid, but she's still a great character and ends up making some tough decisions at great cost to herself.

While I didn't enjoy this as much as Touch and company it was still an enjoyable read and I'm sure to get the next book in the series.

Veronica Mars meets Supernatural in Darker Days,  a fun read with a new twist on the paranormal world.

Darker Days releases August 19th.

SPECIAL POST: Recipe--Crockpot Roast

So my awesome TEXAS friend, Rachel, released her new book Taste the Heat this week. My review and a GIVEAWAY can be found here. Since the female MC is a chef, a suggestion for a blog post was a recipe. Now, I'm a fairly lazy cook. I like EASY recipes. We're talking two-ingredient-stick-it-in-the- crockpot-and-forget-it recipes. So I'll be sharing one of those.

Crockpot Roast (I got this from...someone, so I can take no credit for it's awesomeness)

Step 1: Go to grocery store meat section
Step 2: Pick out a 2-3 lb beef roast (chuck, sirloin, whatever)
Step 3: Buy 1 16oz jar of your fav CHUNKY salsa or picante sauce
Step 4: Pay for items. and go home.
Step 5: Put items in fridge
Step 6 : Morning of the day you plan to eat it, put roast in crockpot.
Step 6.5: Put pan on stove/put butter in pan/brown roast on each side (this makes the roast more flavorful but if you don't have time, DON'T STRESS!!)
Step 7: Turn crockpot on low (if you forget to put this on in the am, you can put it on around 3 with the crockpot on high and still have dinner around 6:30pm)
Step 8: Pour entire jar of salsa over the roast.
Step 9: Put on lid. Ignore til dinner time
Step 10: Use forks to pull apart roast in the crockpot (do not drain salsa juices!)
Step 11: Stir meat around pot to get the drippings/salsa mixed together...and

VOILA! Dinner!

Taste the Heat (Love and Games, #1)When chef Colby Robicheaux returned home to New Orleans to save her family restaurant, the last person she expected to reconnect with was her brother’s best friend and her childhood crush. As tempting as a sugar-coated beignet, Jason is one dish she doesn’t want to taste. Colby is counting down the days till she can leave the place where her distrust of love and commitment originated and go back to Vegas.

Fire captain Jason Landry isn’t looking for love, either. He knows he should focus on finding the perfect mother for his daughter, but when he first sees Colby, all grown up and gorgeous, he can’t help but be drawn to her. And when she suggests a no-strings-attached fling, Jason doesn’t want to say no.
As their relationship grows more intense, Colby finds that Jason isn’t as easy to leave behind as she thought. Could turning up the heat on something real be worth the possibility of getting burned?

Can you REALLY go home again? If you're Colby Robicheaux the answer is an emphatic no. Back in New Orleans only to help get the family restaurant back on it's feet again after the death of the head chef, and  lack of ability to retain subsequent chefs, Colby reluctantly returns. Her first official duty as the new Head Chef, judge the local cooking fundraiser, where she unexpectedly runs into her brother's best friend--and her childhood crush.

Jason Landry, now a captain with the local fire department, doesn't recognize Colby the Judge as his best friend's sister, and flirts shamelessly with her, surprised by his immediate and overwhelming attraction for her. And y'all, he can cook and cook well. (Guy who "serves and protects"--yes i know that's police but it applies here--and is a great cook? Um, yes please!) But Jason isn't interested in just a fling (or is he?), as he has his daughter to look out for, and he isn't about to risk a friendship by getting involved with his best friend's sister.

Speaking of siblings, Colby's play an important part in the story. Bad-boy Cane (and we get a Cane story--WOOT!) adds tension to Colby's and Jason's budding relationship as the protective, older brother and manager of the family restaurant. Colby's younger sister, Sherry, provides fabulous comic relief and encourages Colby to go after Jason, even if it's just for the short term, and to fulfill some of her old adolescent fantasies. Jason's daughter and wannabe chef, Emma, encourages her dad to get out into the dating world, especially if it's with Colby.

With Jason seemingly on board for their temporary fling, Colby quickly becomes more enmeshed in Jason and Emma's daily lives then she ever expected. Can she overcome her hang ups and fight for her HEA?

A fun read, with quirky characters, and laugh out loud moments, Taste the Heat, is a perfect, easy summer read.
