Ghost Symmetry
Ghost SymmetryWhat you will need:1. Black construction paper
2. White craft paint
3. Googily eyes
4. Black paint or Black marker
5. Newspaper (for keeping your area clean)
I had my boys fold a piece of black construction paper in half. We used 8.5" x 11" paper, but Ghost Symmetry would be really cool on bigger paper too!
They squirted white craft paint the way they wanted in the middle of the paper.
We placed a piece of newspaper under the paper before we folded it -- just in case extra paint came squirting out -- and it did! Phew! I recommend folding gently because we found that the paint looked nicer, but experiment to see what you like better.
He was so excited that he tried another ghost right away.
My youngest son made this cute ghost!
Lastly, we added googily eyes while the paint was still wet (you could also glue them on after the paint dries). We chose not to add a ghost mouth after the paint dried because we liked the way he looked without one. However, you could use black paint, a marker, or even scraps of black construction paper. If you are using this symmetry lesson, just make sure your eyes and mouth are added symmetrically.

Explore Sizes with Three Ghost Friends - Comparing, Sorting and Ordering
I hope these printables will allow you to talk with your child about comparing and ordering ghosts by size. Use words like big, bigger, biggest or small, medium, large to help expand their vocabulary and concept development.
There are six printables for various levels of skill ability.
Directions:
1. Download and print activity sheets.
2. Make ghosts and game boards sturdy. (I chose to laminate, but mounting on cardboard or cereal boxes works well.)

Have you Boo'd your neighbors, yet?
My kids love "boo-ing" their neighbors!
Have you heard of this tradition?
Your family makes up two treat bags, sneaks them onto your neighbors' porches, and then they are instructed to "boo" two more houses. The preparation, the sneaking, and then watching the BOO'd houses multiply in your neighborhood is so much fun for the kids!
Sound like fun? Now, all you need is a little Halloween spirit and the printable below!

Stackable Papier Mache Ghost Decorations
You will need:1. Plastic containers with lids -- (I chose to use 3 cottage cheese containers)2. Newspaper (cut in strips)3. Flour4. Water5. White craft paint6. Paintbrushes7. Black Sharpie marker
Preparation:First, I made the papier mache mixture. Mix 5 parts water to 1 part flour (I used 5 cups water and 1 cup flour and it was WAY too much). Bring the mixture to a boil. It should become very thick. Then, let the mixture cool by leaving it out or by placing it in the refrigerator. Meanwhile, cut or tear your newspaper into strips. Ready your plastic containers with lids on.
Once the mixture was cool, I dipped the newspaper strips in, removed the excess, and placed each strip directly onto the container. I added newspaper strips until the whole container was covered.
I smoothed out the newspaper to make sure everything was flat and then placed each container on a piece of plastic to dry.
Once the containers were dry we painted them with white craft paint.
Then, we let the paint dry.
Once the paint was dry, I added ghost faces with a Black Sharpie marker.
Happy Halloween!

FREEBIE: Three Ghost Friends: Learn About Counting - a TGF Mini-Book
Today, I am excited to share with you a Three Ghost Friends Mini-Book. (AND -- It is FREE to download!)
My son and I were on a walk the other day and he was noticing all the pumpkins people had on their front steps. He is only able to count to 2 and therefore every house had 2 pumpkins even though some houses had six! He was having so much fun pointing out the pumpkins that I thought the Three Ghost Friends would probably like to do it too.
Three Ghost Friends: Learn About Counting - TGF Mini-Book can be downloaded, printed, and read with your little one RIGHT NOW! Just click here! (Well...you do have to cut the pages in half, make sure the pages are in order, and staple the book together -- but that will take less than a minute!).
The mini-book may be of interest to teachers that teach guided reading. I had my wife, a first grade teacher, level the book and it came in as a Guided Reading Level D.
Click to Download!
I hope your children enjoy counting right along with the Three Ghost Friends.
----> And I must also give you an activity that extends the mini-book too. Here is a link to download a FREE Three Ghost Friends Counting Wheel!
Both the mini-book and counting wheel are available on my Teachers Pay Teachers Page too!
