February 2014

Wow, I looked back through my Blog Posts to copy and paste the top part of this meme and found that I haven't posted an Indie Life post since October.

I have been really slack, but have also had a few family issues which needed to be attended to.

So please accept my appologies.

I have mentioned many times that time is my biggest hindrance, when it comes to my writing, and this has also been the case over the past few months.

By the time I look after my family, animals, house, work and then fit in some exercise for myself, check my emails and respond back - the day has gone and I feel exhausted and into bed.

I envy authors who are  so organized, their life seems to just fall into place with little or no effort. I have no answers for my dilemma, but I always try to find a solution which suits the circumstances. (Some might call this the easy way out).

I have noticed recently that a lot of people blogging are not using a signature at the bottom of their comments, making it easier to be followed back to your most recent post, so I thought I would supply the information on how to accomplish this important task.

First a code needs to be copied and pasted, (I save mine in a Word document for easy access anytime.)

<a href=PASTE YOUR URL OF THE BLOG POST<TYPE IN YOUR SIGNATURE/NAME</a>

PASTE YOUR URL OF THE BLOG POST  To find this, simply click your mouse on the title of the post and once the page refreshes, copy the address (URL) of the post and paste where indicated.

TYPE IN YOUR SIGNATURE/NAME Then type your name or signature where shown above.

Make sure there are no spaces between each section.
When complete, just copy the entire sequence and paste it at the bottom of your comment.

Where this code has been pasted, your signature will appear, linking it back to the post on your blog page.

I found this technique to be very handy when commenting on sites during the A-Z Challenge, which will be here before we know it.

Are you ready?

She just sees me.

EXCERPT:
Auron began to lead our party down lower and as we turned to pass a ridge of mountain, The Sanctuary rose before us.  I quickly looked over at Jazz, her face showed her astonishment, as she looked around the scene before her.
The actual building stood near the top of the following summit, but what I wanted Jazz to see was the green grass which spread across a flat plain filled with a variety of trees, majestically reaching their limbs towards the blue moon.
In the distance just before The Sanctuary lay a crystal clear blue lake, which I knew was filled with colourful fish.  The moon was reflecting its deep blue cast upon the surface and the water’s surface shimmered with the movement of the fish.
As our steeds retracted their wings and landed upon the ground, they broke into a gallop, before slowing to a stop near the edge of the lake.I looked across at Jazz and my heart leapt at the sight of her amazed expression as a flock of winged creatures similar to large butterflies, escaped the long grass beside us to travel to a nearby tree.
This close to the trees, we could view the exotic flowers of Aidensdein blooming from vines which crept their way up to the tree tops.  I moved my mount nearer, “Do you like my favourite place in this world?”  I asked Jazz.“Yes, oh yes Seb.  It is beautiful. Why have you not shown me this before?”“The time was not right, before.”  I answered.  “Come, we are heading to the heart of The Sanctuary near the top of the summit, across the other side of the lake.”“Why can’t we just fly there?”“There is no room to land the Pegasoi Aithiopes up on the top of the summit.”“How do we cross the lake?”“You will see.”
Auron was again the first to head to the edge of the water, at full gallop, crying out loudly as he took off, “Watch this Jazz!”
As soon as the first hoof of his animal landed upon the water a smooth flat rock rose to the surface, another followed soon after to hold the weight of the horse’s next hoof.
Some of the Protectors followed Auron across, others waited while Nicola crossed before them.  The Royal Guardians moved their mounts to position themselves behind Jazz and me, as we approached the water’s edge.
As I felt my steed’s hoof hit the stones surface, fond memories of my childhood swept over me and I was caught up in an emotional moment as I shared this moving experience with Jazz and my children.
It wasn’t long before we reached the outskirts of the Sanctuary building, which was protected by an invisible army of stone like warriors.  They bowed their heads as our party passed by their stations on the path to the entrance.
I noticed Jazz turn back to look down at the plain we had just passed through and I was amused by the look on her shocked face.  “What?  Where did it go?”
I turned to look but knew I would only see a crimson coloured landscape with a lake full of red water.
Jazz turned to me and asked, “Was it an illusion?”“No, it was real.  What you see now is an illusion.”“Huh?”

Review by: May 10, 2012 Emily AKA Doodle  star star star star Shelves: reviewed, provided-by-author Review originally posted at Doodle's Book Blog

He Came For Me isn't your average run of the mill paranormal book. There are no love triangles, only harmless beings not of this world. Carolyn Brown created a unique twist on vampires in young adult novels today.

As the story unfolds we are looking at the world through Jazz's eyes. She watches as a guy drives by her one morning on her way to class and feels an instant connection. Not only does she find his eyes captivating, but she wonders why there is such a strong pull. She hasn't even met the guy and she is looking for him everywhere she goes. What she doesn't know is that he has always been there, she just never noticed him before.

Jazz is a down-to-earth college student who questions the odd things happening in her town, who lets her curiosity get the best of her, and who actually reacts properly when she finds out the guy who she feels this strong pull towards isn't human. None of that, "Oh, that's cool." She actually has a mild panic attack. To top things off, she doesn't get all gaga over the guy. He's there, great. He's missing for a few days, upset but she'll get over it. Like I said, not your average run of the mill young adult paranormal book.

There were a few other things I loved about this book besides Jazz. To be specific there was one event towards the end that reminded me of a horror movie. You know what I'm talking about. It's the scene where a girl is upstairs, she hears a bump downstairs, so she goes exploring, and something bad always happens. Well, there was a scene like that and something bad did kind of happen. I LOVED IT. I also enjoyed some of the words Carolyn chose to use. There were words that I hadn't seen in a young adult novel, such as specimen, and I grinned every time I read it (3 times). It's the little things that make me happy. Finally, we weren't just dealing in one world, but two. Normally we only see everything playing out on Earth, but in He Came For Me we have two completely different worlds.

Overall, this book was a great read. There was a little bit of content not suitable for a younger audience, but it wasn't as graphic as some books could be. I would recommend this to paranormal lovers 17 and up.
Review by: Jennifer Ricketts on March 01, 2013 : star star star star
The cover and title of this book really caught my eye. As I began reading, I wasn't sure what kind of supernatural beings Seb and his friends were; I just knew they weren't "ordinary." I liked that I thought I knew but was unsure; my curiousity and interest kept me turning the pages.

The setting was really cool--I haven't read a book that takes place in Queensland before, and it was enjoyable getting a visual of what living there would be like from this story. The author did a wonderful job describing the area of the Sunshine Coast, and as a result I'd love to visit there someday!

I don't want to go into too much detail concerning the plot so as not to give anything away, but I do want to say that there were several twists and turns in the plot that were fresh and original! I really appreciated the author's unique spin on this fantasy story of young love.

I connected with the main character, Jazz, right away. She isn't your typical delicate flower type of character--she's independent and tougher than I thought she'd be, which was a happy surprise. All of the characters each have his or her unique personality. Bliss was one of my favorite characters--there was so much to like about her. Seb is mysterious and multilayered--there's much more to him that is slowly revealed throughout the book.

I gave this book a four out of five star rating only because of a very slight issue I had with the author's use of exclamation points. I felt the way the dialogue was written conveyed how passionately or dispassionately a character was speaking, and many times an exclamation point wasn't needed in my opinion. This was very minor, however, and I still flew through the book, needing to know what would happen next.

The ending was so good--I definitely need to read the next book to find out what happens next!

I received a copy of this book from a read and review group on Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.
Review: LAWonder on December 14, 2013 star star star star star Format: Paperback
What a delightful story of intrigue, adventure and romance this was! It reminded me of a different popular series but with a few different twists - of course, any weird fantasy with two romantically involved beings would have the same affect on me.
This tale was centered on a young college girl- Jazz - drawn into a totally different type of friends group... so different than her current one. It includes a mysterious young man -Seb - who quickly captures her attention and romantic interests. He is a total stranger, yet she feels safe and comfortable in his presence.

Strange things are happening all around her. Her once safe, normal life suddenly no longer appears as such. Confused and engulfed in a myriad of conflicting emotions, her curiosity takes her into life-threatening circumstances. Can she possibly survive this? It begins to seem highly doubtful

This is a fast-paced, moving, and romantic story. Jazz, unable to "sort things out" with all the confusing contradictions, and Seb, battling with unfamiliar feelings and his sense of loyalty two separate entities yet to his solemn duty.

The story ending left the reader aching for the next book of the Protector series.
The cover was don well and is an eye-catcher. The wording and descriptions were done well but with a few grammatical errors. One felt a connection to the different characters o various personality types.

My review of this book offers a solid Four & a Half Stars rating. Because of the very familiar sense of repetition and the few grammatical errors, I felt I could not offer a full Five Stars rating.

^Note: There is a sexual content at the end, therefore prohibiting me from a referral for the younger YA. It borders the New YA rating (which I feel is a ridiculous one). However, it isn't very explicit in content. The descriptiveness is tastefully done.

I was sent this book by author for an honest review, of which I have given.  a Rafflecopter giveaway

Well, I have just  re-entered my name to the very large Insecure Writer's Support Group list, now I am number 311. Yes, I was naughty and just didn't post for a couple of months, of course I had legitimate excuses, but that is the rule, for those who don't know and we all accept it.

I have had a few life ups and downs recently, unfortunately mostly downs, but hopefully there won't be too many more. I think I have had enough for now, and I must add, it is good to be back.

This group of supportive writers is one of the most caring, considerate and dare I say 'supportive' networks available on the web and I think everyone should pat themselves on the back for the outstanding way we give our time, words of encouragement and helpful advice to one another. It is certainly something very special.

Although I have said this many times, as have many others, thanks again Alex, for founding this meme and for continuing to be our host! We certainly appreciate it.

After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape, but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean. And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother's death and Ander's appearance seem connected, and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don't make sense. Can everything you love be washed away? MY TEASER:  Around Eureka, muddy swaths of seaweed lay abandoned by the waves. Fish flopped on exposed earth. 18710190 Allegiant  (Divergent #3) byVeronica Roth (Goodreads Author)
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

Told from a riveting dual perspective, Allegiant, by #1 New York Times best-selling author Veronica Roth, brings the Divergent series to a powerful conclusion while revealing the secrets of the dystopian world that has captivated millions of readers in Divergent and Insurgent.

MY TEASER:

"Want to know what your friends did?" she says. Her voice shakes, and I do not make the mistake of thinking it's from tears. It's from anger. "They weren't after the memory serum. They were after poison-death serum. so that they could kill a bunch of important government people and start a war."
