A request…

If you were thinking of buying one of my books between now and the end of the year please don’t….

On 17th December a good friend and colleague of mine died of cancer. Louise had no idea that she was ill. A little over a week before her death she was at our office Christmas party happily drinking her favourite tipple (rum) and chatting with her colleagues about her plans for the festive season. She was taken into hospital suddenly on Sunday 15th December and died two days later. Lou was 40 years old, the same age as me, she loved books and we were both members of an office book club. Her death has shocked and deeply saddened everyone who knew her.

There is nothing I can do to help Louise now, but I can help others. I’m going to be donating all my royalties for the first week of January to the Marie Curie Cancer Care charity.

So, if you’ve been thinking about buying one of my books, or you have a friend who you think might like one, please don’t buy it yet, wait for the 1st January.

Thank you.

A Cat Called Hope – The Complete Saga

CCHcomplete

I’d always planned to publish a collected edition of Cat Called Hope stories at some point and the release of ‘The Final Chapter’ marked the right time to do it. The first three stories form an arcing narrative about Marx and his human friends that work best when read together. The collected book is probably more of a novella than a short story compilation and I hope that readers who are new to the series will enjoy it that way.

Because I wanted to give new and existing fans a little something extra I’ve also written and included a new short story that fleshes out the lives of some of the human characters.

The book is available for Kindle and on Smashwords and also as a paperback. Editions for iOS, Kobo and the Google Play store are coming soon.

A Cat Called Hope – The Final Chapter

CCH3 v3

It is a fairly wonderful thing, as a writer, to have readers like your stories enough that they demand more of them. That has certainly been the case with the ‘Cat Called Hope’ series and so, to please all those extremely kind Amazon reviewers, I am picking up Marx’s adventures once again and hope to publish the third story in the series in the next week or so.

After writing ‘A Cat Called Hope Returns’ I thought I was done with that particular feline and his female companions but when I started really thinking about it I realised the story was far from over. ‘A Cat Called Hope – The Final Chapter’ will bring the story of Marx, The Woman, Walking, Little One and Loud to a proper conclusion. Expect excitement, drama, tenderness and an ending that will have you reaching for you hankie.

New short story – The Tooth Fairy

This was a title that was thrown at me at my writer’s group that I thought I wouldn’t be able to do anything with but then an idea came to me and evolved into this rather nasty little tale. Hope you like it.

The Alibi

Things have been a bit dry lately, but I started this short the other day and had some fun with it.

New short short – Bringing It Home

This week’s project for my writer’s club is short and boiled hard. I like it enough that I might develop it into a longer short story.

One Night – now available in paperback

It’s a little weird that it’s taken me well over a year since the publication of my first work to get around to publishing a “real” book. I’ve done it now though and ‘One Night’ is now available to buy in paperback form on Amazon UK. The list price is £6.99 which is a lot more than the Kindle edition but pretty much as cheap as I could do it.

Anyway, should anybody be interested in getting a signed copy please contact me before buying and I’m sure we can work something out.

New short short – The Mascot

I’ve just started attending a local writer’s club and as part of that I’ll be writing a very short story each week as homework. I’m not sure if they’re really long enough to be called flash fiction being 500 to 1000 words but they’ll be too short to publish as ebooks so I thought I’d post them here. Here is the first, ‘The Mascot’.

One Night

image

Today I’ve published my second novel,  One Night.  It’s a more conventional work than Sunliner,  being a contemporary romantic thriller in contrast to my first book’s 50s set mash up of genres. The two books do share a similar structure though, with the first half of each flipping back and forth between the past and the present. There are also a number of similar themes and Harry,  the villain of One Night,  isn’t a million miles away from Sunliner JJ.

One Night gave me some new challenges, most obviously the strong romantic element to the book which was something I hadn’t really attempted before.

As a result I suspect the audience that will most enjoy One Night is a slightly different one than has enjoyed my work to day but hopefully my existing readers will still find it an entertaining read.
