Review, Labyrinth of Souls

Always good to get a book review for a lesser known book of mine. This one is for Labyrinth of Souls.  Glad to hear someone liked it. If you enjoy dark scifis that seem relevant to today, me thinks you'll like it too!

Twitter

Sad to admit, but I'm still on twitter, though I think about stopping it almost every day. Recently, I had the honor of hearing Oliver Stone talk and he said many good things. However, when he mentioned twitter, he said that people "Twitted away" on it. Other corrected him and said it was tweeting. But I thought he had it right. This isn't to say that the medium isn't useful. It is. But it doesn't allow for the context I require.

Some thoughts

I've been silent for far too long. There will be, shortly, some shorts that I'll put out. And in the meantime, I've been thinking hard on the Iliad and other historical examples of forever war.

Here's a great video on  just that. Worth a look, certainly.

Lowhim Smackdown Update

If you haven't read my list of smackdowns , you should check it out. Worth a few chuckles. Well, there's another one added to the mix. It kinda surprised me, actually. The audiobook in question, Satan's Plea , has been
"sounded like being with your overly political friend at a bar and having to listen to him whine after having a few too many beers. "
Ouch, and well played, whoever wrote that, well played.

World Building and Art

If you've been following this blog over the past couple years at least, you would have read my fictional piece on Art . Called "Art as Life", it actually takes a look at an artist who uses data to create pieces of art that speak of the world. In that piece, and the following ones as well, she uses edge-node paintings and other forms of mapping city and humanscapes.

Or take these medically inspired pieces. Amazing, right? I, for one, can't wait until I can afford a robot arm, or a plotter, so I can create even more complicated pieces from my imagination. Something that can only help my writing. Have you seen such data driven art anywhere? Share them if you can!

Favorite Bookstore?

NYTimes has a great list of bookstores here . Definitely worth  a look through. I think I've mainly moved away from bookstores, or I don't love them as I once did. Libraries still own the day. Seattle's is especially amazing. Love NYPL as well, as each branch has its own flavor (the largest one(s) notwithstanding).
But as far as bookstores, here in Spokane I'm a fan of 2nd Look Books . The basement of this unsuspecting bookstore really allows you to find all sorts of books that one wouldn't normally. Back in NYC, McNally's and the way it sorted books by region was solid, though I think something about it changed that I didn't quite like.
Besides, the well ordered bookstore, the B&Ns of the world, though nice aren't the same as an eclectic mix of used books and subjects that surprise you when you find them! If you want a book, online you can find whatever you want. A bookstore should be a moment of discovery, a time to find something that no algorithm can yet mimic.
What are your favorite bookstores or libraries?

Five Long Years! (and 63k views!)

Well, thanks to everyone who has been reading this blog and my work for the past 5 years. Hard to think that its been five years... Even harder to think that I've written many different kinds of books since then, to include ones I never thought myself capable. Ah. Well, one must keep on writing. If you've noticed, some of my posting has been a little more erratic. I have other channels, so to speak. Of course, there's the email list (above) you can sign up for but here are a few others that speak to a more complete me:
Instagram @nlowhim
Twitter @nlowhim
Youtube (some of my stories in a more video form)
Medium (more politcal rantings)
Patreon (also more stories here)
And finally, a few audiobook smaples on Soundcloud.
Enjoy, and would love to hear your thoughts on this blog and other matters!
