Literary Giants.

Remember that Nelson Algren story I shared with you? Seems like, at the end of the day, he truly was a literary gem, but he went against the grain of mainstream literary culture a bit too much and thus paid a price [1].

Well, in a similar vein, this piece on Steinbeck is revealing and worth the read. Steinbeck does write well about certain things that mattered. Thoughts?

[1] To that end, given that much of the literary field was pushed to writing "non-politically" as being the one true marker of a great piece of writing, and given that this "literary type" was pushed by the CIA and paid men (including a friend of James Baldwin who apparently was ok with feigning to be his friend while also making sure he lived in penury) of the CIA, one can only sniff out conspiracies in almost every literary issue today.

Votefwd is all about letter writing. Right now it's voter registration and next it will be getting people to vote. So start up!

Fairfight is Stacey Abrams and given that she's mainly behind the GA flip, well, do as she says! The donate button on that page takes us right to this. So splurge some cash. Volunteer nationally or in GA. Seems that you can text and call (non-GA peeps).

Stories and Short Collection Coming Out. A reading too.

I do hope to have an updated short story collection coming out within a year, will keep you updated on that, btw. Will be busy, of course, but it should be done (and available on paperback as well). As for novels, yeah, you're gonna have to wait a little longer. Sorry, still working on it and the story.

Trump the Right & Genocide

On Triumph of the Will, 21st Century Style, & Contemporary Right

 I've pointed out all the dumb and what borders on propaganda [1] in many previous installments, to say nothing of my stories and novels. But this video here, takes it to a peak, in terms of what that art actually wants to be. 

Take note of all that's there: There's the military action, which is fair enough, then there's the action against dark women acting out of place. The British AI/assistant only gives this a semi-bond flair, and speaks to what many of those older movies also relied on: the love for Empire against some unknown dark evil [2]. The love for Empire is the strong part that requires unquestioning said acts of violence while also picturing said Empire as perfectly innocent.[3]

As time has passed, many former tropes that were played with say, in the 90s, are now meeting, in full, the actual current that the piece represents. So though it's not as complicated as, say, Bodyguard or Homeland, it is of the same ilk (as is that London falling or whatever POS movie).

 Thoughts?

 

[1] Or terrorism porn, aka white man fighting against the brown horde porn.  

[2] the evil not always transplanted to what we see on earth, but the fact that the Empire is always good, and specifically the parts of Empire that do violence, sometimes held back by people who like laws and rules and what have you (humanists, I imagine). 

[3] Plenty to read on this, but the biggest, I sense, is the  fascist worldview (and where it meets with a more neoliberal one or neocon one) of being the power that is allowed to operate unhindered by morals (but always claiming morality). you can see it clearly with the likes of Trump et al.

More from Our Nazi Party & Bedfellows

So our Nazi Party (aka MAGAts) can be seen here, much like the brownshirts in Berlin, attacking people in broad day. Of course the police are either embedded with them or watching and laughing from afar. So even though SCOTUS has pretty much scoffed at the lawsuits brought before them, but that doesn't mean the true believers aren't all in. 



Note, as before there is no both sides to this. 82% of trump voters believe Biden isn't legitimate. All because minorities voted for him. Think on this level of crazy. And with the right, where the grift starts (Trump asking for $ that will mainly go to his campaign) and the crazy true believers start is so fuzzy a line that it isn't worth making.

Publishing Today

It would appear that this article proves what many know: that publishing is still a very white endeavor. Worth reading. Note that when I posted this on reddit, the post was downvoted to oblivion, with the usual suspects saying that such analysis is racist. Ah, ye old you're racist if you point out something racist. So it goes. Note that in another subreddit a person who posted it told me the the mods took it down as it was "too controversial". Further proof that the right (and those allied with the right in certain kinds of thinking, mainly the religion of white supremacy) is full in on making the entire country a safe space for their thoughts and every utterance. They just have the power to do so quietly. 





I just posted a set of replies that sound like all the replies that would have existed back in 2000, when I was coming of age. If you follow or know me, you'll know that I was more conservative in my younger days. That young man had joined the army. And though it took some time, I eventually came around. These replies, though, mimic the exact replies people always gave to accusations that any industry was racist. Their point was that either it couldn't be or that since it was heavily white it was because that was the natural hierarchy (that's rarely stated, but it's implied). Right. Of course, there's the usually canard of NBA or NFL being heavily black and let's take that away (why always bring sports into it? When even a cursory look at its history can show you what happened)? 
I suppose some of these are people (kids mainly, on reddit) being uncomfortable about their own success or perceived success will fight with the same old arguments. I also suppose that many are young and simply don't know the history (many aren't activists, right?). Shame. 
Now, I'll also say that the article is incomplete and I would like to have an analysis look at indie publishing (and sales on amazon etc) as well as web fiction web novels and the like to confirm what I think: that minority writers do go to other places when they know they're not welcomed in certain places. See the instapoets, for example. How the bestselling poet of the past century or so has been treated by mainstream publishing is not a matter of "she went rogue" but a matter of being kept inter place by a mostly white industry, IMO. Your thoughts?

On Trump et al

Remember my post about Trump and how he does seem to have the number of many of our elites? I was watching this debate between Bolton and Yanis, and listening to Bolton's talk of national security above all seemed like the craziest things I had ever heard. But the people in the forum, to include Yanis, were allowing him to talk as if he had anything worthwhile to say. He really didn't except, well, it's best said here:

John Bolton was one of the dumbest people in government that I’ve had the “pleasure” to work with. A sullen, dull and quiet guy, he added nothing to National Security except, “Gee, let’s go to war.” Also, illegally released much Classified Information. A real dope!

Yeah, I'd say all that sophistry that Bolton discussed (tripe that got us into the mess we're in today) was nothing but "Gee, let's go to war."

FOW Chess. Protect Your Neck.

In this chess variant, fog of war, not only is it not a perfect information game (so you have to assume what your opponent might have done, or is up to (been beaten by super aggressive players, and super laid back ones, I'm actually not sure what's the best method here)) but you have to protect your king from danger with a great care. Especially in the endgame where it's more open to attacks it can't see. Just lost a game where I was one move away and forgot to protect my king. 

So protect ya neck kids.

Before You Get to the Gulag Tactics.

 Well just look at what we have here. Essentially it's police coming to arrest a woman for exposing the truth about Florida's covid numbers. Yeah, where exactly does this put us on the authoritarian scale (even if it's something that is independent of the Feds?)? Asking for a friend because it seems at least half a Stalin unit to me (reason for arrest and pointing guns at her kids, maybe not Kolyma stuff just yet).
