Where it’s at

Atman, at track 10, is neck-and-neck for my favorite song on this album, Hora Zero, and it has a similarly wonderful zippy energy. Unlike Hora Zero, which is like a horse at full gallop, the rhythm of Atman is more that of a Sufi, spinning, or a master martial artist zinging her way through opponents in a delightfully circular fashion.

Countdown to the Zero Hour

There is some glorious kind of wonderful motion-filled energy with this song. The rhythm is easily that of a horse in full gallop, and the energy could be described as that place I achieved at 2 AM in grad school, after some profound procrastination: slightly manic, slightly overcaffeinated, but with a perfectly clear mind and an ability to focus (finally) like whoa, and consequently the ability to churn out 20 page A- papers in six hours. (Don't try this at home unless you've already spent 10,000 hours to gain mastery in writing.)

Music as Inspiration

Music is a huge part of my writing life, and the inspiration goes both ways. Sometimes I hear a song and realize it's just the perfect mental soundtrack to a scene, or a theme for a character, and those are for the moments when the character is already established and the scene is already written. Other times just hearing a new song, or an old song in a new way will bring to mind a character and inspire a new scene, or a new story.

A Spiritual Retreat

Last month my husband an I took a two week vacation, and fully one week of it was spiritual retreat. It was phenomenal; full of healing, insight, rest, rejuvenation and raising the bar on our Spiritual A-game. To be clear, it wasn’t a planned spiritual retreat, but with hindsight I’m not sure what else it could have […]

TARDIS & the Epic ToDo List

What’s not to love about the TARDIS? In this case, nothing. And because I’m always on the lookout for interesting craft projects (craft defined as ‘stuff I make with my imagination, and then my hands’), the Ladies At The Office … Continue reading →

To Begin Again

One of life’s most difficult things, I have noticed, is to begin again when others are watching. For me it has always been much easier to garner my private failures and tell no one when I try again, harder, ever … Continue reading →

Change Your Life in 3 Steps

Your life is a metaphor. If you don’t like what it says, how things are going, you can change your situation. And whether the things you don’t like about your life are rather small pet peeves, or huge and horrific, whether the … Continue reading →
