Sare’s Adventures with TruDenta, part Four
Welcome to the final installment of Sare's Adventures with TruDenta! This is where I get into the nitty-gritty of what a TruDenta treatment actually entails and what it was like to receive one where I did, at Dr. Wood's office in Buffalo, NY.

Review: Stations of the Cosmic Christ
Stations of the Cosmic Christ by Fox and Andrus is a glossy coffee table book full of abstract religious art. It masquerades as a spiritual guide book to a new sort of stations of the cross.

Review: Jewish & Christian Views on Bodily Pleasure
Ladies and gentlemen, be prepared to be blown away. This is easily one of the best nonfiction books I've encountered in the last ten years. First and foremost, Cherry and his editors have created an absolute joy to read. And I think this book is perfectly relevant to our times as the well-meaning but ill-informed point to the Christian and Jewish holy texts as rationale for harsh and condemning views of bodily pleasure.

The Drama Begins — Don’t Trust Haier
Imagine it. My husband and I have moved into our new home. It’s a fixer upper. We live in the first floor apartment, and my sister lives upstairs. We’ve fixed it up enough to be livable, and a little pretty, but there is plenty more to go and resources are tight. I struggle with migraines […] […]

Sare’s Adventures with TruDenta, part two
How we see the world, the assumptions we make, typically all unconscious, are game changers in our lives. Teenagers coming of age are usually busy (unconsciously but quite successfully) challenging the assumptions of their parents, rebelling, being annoying perceptive about all the things the family doesn’t want to discuss, and trying to find their own […]

Sare’s Adventures with TruDenta, part one
There are times, gentle reader, when I am a creative mad genius, a magpie in human form, easily sliding from one moment of brilliance to the next. And there are other times when I have a surprising amount of cynicism in me. I don’t like to give voice to the cynicism too often. I am, […]

Triumphant Return?
Cue the music. [Fanfare for the Common Man, by Aaron Copeland] Bring on the champagne (or at least the freshly brewed iced tea). Don the Ray Bans. Kick back. Here we go. So where the hell was I? Hi! My name’s Sare. We knew each other a long time ago, back when I used to […]

Still not a saint
This is a letter I recently sent to my clergy colleagues here in the Episcopal Diocese of WNY, after an appeal from the Bishop’s office to consider helping out in the refugees-don’t-have-housing situation that is currently going on in our city, Buffalo, NY. I share it with you because I think it’s entirely sharable. Hey […]

Death is
Death is not good. Death is proof to me that we live in a broken and nightmarish world, no matter how wonderful it can sometimes seem. But I am glad that so long as we have to deal with death, there is such a thing as a good death. And if you or someone you love is in the process of dying, go call hospice, and talk to the hospice chaplain. It's their job to help you through this and they're very, very good at it.
