Interesting story idea
Normally I don’t share story ideas, but I found this one far too interesting not to. And to go along with the Story Creation Magic series I’ve been writing/sharing, I thought it’d be interesting for you to see the sort of things I get which end up in my files. Later on if I need a story idea, I’ll pursue this, expand it, and figure out what in the heck it means.
I had a dream last night in my last bit of sleep before I got up for the day, which came out of nowhere. I didn’t see anything about...

Answering the often asked: do you do Nanowrimo?
I’m often asked a question which goes along with another topic I wanted to cover here.
Do you do NaNoWriMo?No. I haven’t. I most likely won’t ever join in. I won’t say ever, but I’m fairly certain it will be a never.
This isn’t to put it down. A lot of people can get that book written which has been in them forever and parrticipating in something like NaNoWriMo will inspire them. It will get that book written. That’s great. For them. If it gets you to finish that book, write that book, or sto...

Perfection. Don’t bother.
Let’s talk about the art of perfection, striving for it, and the reality that we’ll never achieve it.
I should know, I’m a perfectionist. You know . . . them crazy people who try to have everything perfect, and it never works so then they get frustrated with themselves, and everything goes pop?
Yeah. I’ll just pause a moment and let that sink in.
It sucks.
I’ve been there, I still have my moments where I live there. Overall, I’m getting better about letting go. I’m a product of people expecti...

Building the writing habit
Today we’re gonna chat about building the writing habit. Which is an apt moment in time. The struggles that come with writing every day. How do we get through them? How do we write when we really don’t want to?
Well, you don’t. You try. You do your very best. But at the end of the day, our brains are what we need for writing and there are times when we simply can’t get our brains in the game. Those are moments when the best may not be writing. It could just meantryingto write, but then admitt...

Let’s talk outlines, writing without one, and my own hybrid method.
What are you? An outliner? A pantser?
Let’s talk about which is which, specifics, then we can get into my hybrid method. After that, we can work out which is best for you. You may find out that what you thought about each method isn’t what you expected. I hope I can remember all the different methods I’ve heard discussed for each. If you’ve heard/read about a different method, feel free to drop it in the comments.
What is an outliner. What on earth do people mean when they talk of outlines?A...

Story Creation Magic Series – thoughts
I’ve had this idea about helping people create their stories from the beginning, about coaching them along from start-to-finish. To figure out what works best for them and things of that nature. I’ve had it in the back of my head for a while. Then when I started to post my word count every day and really focus on sharing the process, I’ve receivedmessages and comments about it. Some are the “you inspire me” posts, which always make my day and I’m extremely thankful for. Others that I’m equall...

(Ky & Verrick) Volatile relationship? Check.
There has been a lot of tension between Kylarra and Verrick in the beginning of Law of the Beast. They are both having to come to terms with being “together” in a sort of official capacity. The thing with Kylarra however? She’d been physically caged and chained by an ex of hers. The only man she ever was with in a relationship before Verrick so trusting another man like that can leave her reeling. It’s difficult to say the least. Verrick runs by the old laws of their kind. Not the old, but th...

What Ark will you board when the time comes?
This is something I pondered a lot while I wrote Cessation. Not just the look, but how would it function?
I was completely fascinated by the Arks that the movie 2012 came up with. But see, that was their idea. I couldn’t use their idea. So I needed to think up aship that people would board when the time came. Their arks gave me a great starting point, but my mind went bigger and more powerful. More homier too.
Say, actual apartments made to resemble home? Digital windows that could show the...

Hummingbirds
Had a few hummingbirds show up today. I cleaned up the feeder outside our living room window last night and there’ve been a couple who have come by. This one in particular I shared an image of on Instagram with my cell phone, but when it kept coming back, I grabbed my digital camera to get clear shots. It’s a gloomy, rainy day so this fellow kept hanging out, drinking the water that fell on it, stretching the wings, and everything. I have a video I’ll embed below as soon as YouTube clears it....
