Week 4 – Here’s A Political Conversation Worth Having
Last week I had a satisfying political experience that I wanted to share with you.
Our Governor, Charlie Baker, was set to sign into law a bill that would offer licensure to naturopathic doctors in Massachusetts. Since I’ve benefitted from sound naturopathic medicine – the kind of care that focuses on prevention and that treats the whole person, I was in favor of the passing of the bill.
When I heard it was up for approval again (after two decades of trying to get it passed), I was inspired t...

Week 3 – When a coyote comes to visit, you should do this
This week my mom came to visit for the first time since my dad passed. I looked forward to spending a couple of days with her and the only commitment I had was to host a Facebook Live event on Friday for the Hay House publishing page.
I was scheduled to answer questions about the online course that starts this Wednesday and to do a little live coaching with visitors to the page. (You can watch the recording and learn about the course here)
I had purchased new equipment for the session and wan...

Week 2 – Are you ready to join me for a year of self-care?
Over the last two weeks I’ve been having fun creating videos, worksheets, resource lists, and new tools as part of an upgrade to the online course I developed for Hay House a couple of years ago based on The Art of Extreme Self Care.
When I first launched the course, over a thousand people spent a year with me implementing one new self-care habit a month and the changes we made were big. Together we learned to…
Put an end to chronic resentment
Silence the inner critic with tenderness
Make fri...

Week 1 – Roaring into 2017
It’s New Year’s Day and I’m sitting by candlelight thinking about 2016. It was a tough year and honestly, I’m happy to turn the page. That said, I’m also grateful for so much, especially a wonderful visit with my dad just before he passed. I thank God for that every day.
As I think about the upcoming year, I have no doubt there will be challenges. There’s so much happening on the planet right now and it’s easy to feel anxious about our future.
But I have faith.
I believe in us.
As we head int...

Week 52 – Happy Holidays!
I’m taking this week off from writing the blog, but wanted to wish you and your loved ones a very happy holiday as we enter into the final stretch of 2016.
It’s been quite a year and I’m ready for a fresh, new start in 2017. I hope you’re able to enjoy some down time where you can rest, relax, and be with those who make you smile.
I’ll be back next week!

Week 51 – What if your favorite song of all time is doing this?
Last Tuesday night I turned on the TV to watch the finale of The Voice and discovered that the opening song was My Way by Frank Sinatra – my dad’s favorite.
The young man who sang it, Billy Gilman, did a spectacular job and as I listened to the words, I realized they described my father to a tee.
You can watch his performance here starting at 5:51.
My dad loved to sing. He had a great voice and Frank Sinatra was his go-to guy. When I was in my mid-twenties, my father confessed that growing up...

Week 50 – The best way to support artists during the holidays
Michael and I were talking about finishing up our holiday shopping this morning. We both agreed that we wanted to shop locally as much as possible and to support artists who are brave enough to put their work out into the world. It reminded me of a blog I wrote about this idea and the invitation I made to you about sharing your work with my online community.
Here it is… updated
.
Michael and I went Christmas shopping last night.
For about twenty minutes.
Then, standing in the middle of a bus...

Week 49 – Here’s how we make the holidays happy
Yesterday my sister texted me this photo:
In honor of what would have been my father’s 82nd birthday, my sister’s friend, Lisa, decided to extend a gift of kindness to a stranger on behalf of my dad by paying for his breakfast.
Everyone who knew my father knew he received so much joy giving to others. He was actively involved with the homeless organization connected to his church, and every week he gathered food from local stores and restaurants so volunteers could distribute meals to those...

Week 48 – It’s what we don’t talk about that hurts us.
I woke early one morning last week to find the sun streaming through a maple tree outside my bedroom window, one of the last to hang on to its lacy yellow hands.
As the rising light illuminated the leaves, I thought of my dad.
I’ll never be able to share the beauty of this earth with him again in this lifetime I realized as I lay in bed taking in the late autumn show.
Grief is like a shadow you can’t shake. As I go about my daily routine, one minute I feel normal as I drop packages off at the...

Week 47 – Hope and healing for those who are grieving
As I continue to deal with the loss of my father, I thought I’d share a past blog about a resource that’s been very helpful to me. It’s from my friend, Bob Olson, who studies and writes about the afterlife.
Here’s the story I shared last winter…
I just returned from a walk where I listened to an hour-long podcast by my friend, Bob Olson, author of Answers About the Afterlife.
A few weeks ago, Bob told me he created a new podcast format designed to bring comfort and healing to people who were...
