Movement outside the glass doors caught her attention, and she stilled.Omar.Flanked by two bodyguards. One an older gentleman—in his forties, she guessed—and a younger one who looked to be in his thirties. Her gaze caught Omar’s, and her body’s response was immediate—heart pounding, breath snagging, body tingling with awareness. His grey caftan had intricate embroidery on the neckline and cuffs. She frowned. Hadn’t he been wearing a suit this morning? Or was that yesterday? He’d been visiting morning and evening every day, and even without wanting to, she’d found herself looking forward to his visits. He hadn’t kissed her again, much to her relief, but his eyes always emitted heat and intent, which took her mind there, anyway, filling her with anticipation. It was worse than being kissed.Expectation signified emotion; but that had no place in the alliance. She’d prepared for duty with Majid, not desire. Yet, each time Omar came near her, each time he looked into her eyes, she struggled to maintain her practical head on her shoulders. He entered the room, but the bodyguards stayed outside.“Ready to go?”Her gaze dropped to his lips—generous, well-defined lips that looked chiselled; yet, she remembered their softness when he’d pressed them against her temple the other day. She shook her head. She may have gotten a clean bill of health, but the accident must have screwed with her mind, making her more vulnerable to his special brand of allure.“Salma tells me you haven’t had your coronation,” she said, more to give her mind something else to focus on.“No. I haven’t been crowned.”“Why not?”He paused, but before he could answer, Salma cleared her throat. “I’ll take the flowers to the head nurse now, My Lady.”India diverted her attention to Salma and couldn’t help thinking the woman was running. “Very well, Salma.”When her PA had left, she took in a breath and returned her gaze to Omar who stood only a couple of feet away. Funny, his brother had been taller, but she’d never had the sensation of being drowned by him. Next to Omar, however, she felt like a delicate little flower. He seemed to tower over her, large and immovable.“Isn’t the stipulation for your coronation that you marry first? Which, according to you, we are.”“I assure you, India, we’re married,” he said. “However, in Sudari tradition, marriage is only confirmed through consummation.”Her eyes widened, and she nearly choked on her own saliva. It took every ounce of effort to keep her mouth from gaping. “Wh—what?”She’d read about cultures where newlywed couples had to make love in the presence of family elders to confirm they’d slept together. She’d never imagined such a thing would still be practiced in the twenty-first century.Clearly, she should have done a more thorough investigation about Sudar before agreeing to marry into their royal family.Ha! As if she’d had a choice.“Your family expects to witness your first night with your bride?”With a casual wave of his hand, he replied. “Of course not. That would just be primitive.”He spoke with a mild French-ness to his ‘r’. It was sexy as hell. Try as she might, she couldn’t squelch the images it pushed into her mind; images of being slowly undressed by Omar, of his hands and lips running lightly over her skin, of succumbing to his virility, allowing him to do the things his one kiss had put in her head. The flames burning her face cascaded over the rest of her body. She fought to calm her erratic heartbeat. “How would they know we’ve consummated?” “Nothing you’ll be uncomfortable with,” he replied. “It would suffice that you and I spend the night in the same bedroom.”“Even if we don’t, erm…consummate?”Had someone switched off the AC?A beat passed. His right brow hooked up. “Are you against…consummation?”Was that a smile? Did he think this was funny? Time to shake off the deer in headlights sensation and take charge of this situation. She swallowed. “Of course not.”“I take it to mean you’re not a virgin. Good,” he said. She raised her brows.“When you’ve had me, I want you to know the difference.” His eyes gleamed. “Tell me, Princess India, have you had an orgasm before?”Her eyes widened, but she stopped short of gasping at his audacity. “I don’t see how that’s relevant to you.”“I’m your husband. That makes your pleasure of paramount importance to me.”“Since I didn’t agree to or participate in a wedding with you, I’d say you’re getting way ahead of yourself, Omar.”He leaned forward, and she began to tingle all over. Though he hadn’t touched her, she could feel his heat radiating into her. She stopped breathing for a couple of seconds. Did he mean to kiss her? Exert some dominance over her? Why didn’t the idea fill her with righteous indignation?“Aren’t you even a little curious about the notes I can make you sing with just my tongue?”A smile of pure male satisfaction came to his lips at her sharp intake of breath. God, she was in trouble.Determined to have the last laugh, however, she squared her shoulders. “Not in the least.”“Given the way the soft skin at the base of your lovely neck is pumping, ya jameel, I call bull.” He pulled back, abandoning the seductive smile. “Besides, need I remind you why your country needs this alliance?”

EXCERPT
“Mr Bassong, if you will, please arrange for a phone to be sent to me. I would like to rest now. You are dismissed.”

He burst out laughing, a cold, echoing mirth that didn’t reach his eyes and chilled her to the bones.
As quickly as it started the laughter died and he took a step in her direction.
Her impulse was to step back but she hadn’t done anything impulsive in years.
She stayed where she stood as he advanced.
“First Princess Isha Ruby—”
“Don’t call me that!” Isha couldn't stop the visceral response or the vehemence in her voice when he used her middle name. Her gut wrenched and the throbbing returned to her temple.

He jerked back and raised one dark brow.
“Is that not your name, Ruby Bagumi?” The tone of his voice baited her and his rigid posture mocked her.
She stiffened her spine and squared her shoulders. “You know very well that I am the First Princess of Bagumi Kingdom and my given name is Isha Saene. You can address me as Your Highness or Princess Isha.”
“Oh.” He tilted his head and scratched the hair on his chin.  “Ten years ago, I met a student in London. She was beautiful, intelligent, compassionate, or at least I’d thought she was at the time. She had these brilliant ideas that could change the world. She told me her name was Ruby Bagumi. But I found out it was a lie.”
He cut her open with his words, a thousand paper-cuts, making her bleed from her soul.
She closed her eyes tight and balled her fists.
She would not go there, would not bleed for him to see.
I am First Princess Isha Saene, she recited in her mind. Isha Saene.
“I am First Princess Isha Saene,” she said out loud and took a deep breath as she opened her eyes.
He stood close. If she reached out she could place her palm on this chest. Was his heart thumping as hard as hers? His scent clung in the air, sandalwood and citrus, tantalising her with each breath.
Memories she'd locked away hovered, threatening to break free.
Nails biting into her palms, she took a step back. “I demand a phone call.”
“So that’s the way you want to play it.” He nodded, moving away as he made his proclamation. “First Princess Isha Saene of the Kingdom of Bagumi, you are now a captive of the MLG group. You will remain in our custody until our demands are met. As for your demand—” he spat out the word as if it was offensive “—you have no power and no rights here. This is Wanai where the supreme power remains with the supreme leader and in this region, I am the supreme leader. You will do as you are told while you are here.”
“I will not,” she retorted, bristling that he dared to make such a declaration. “I do not submit to your leadership. The only authorities I recognise are my father, His Majesty the King of Bagumi and Almighty God.”
He gave that cold laughter again, the one that sent shivers down her spine.
“You are engaged to a Wanaian man. What do you think will happen after you are wed? In Wanai, your husband will have total authority over you.”
Her chin jutted as she glared at him. “Kweku and anyone else will be out of their freaking minds if they think I’m going to abide by that antiquated edict.”Her mother would blanch in horror if she had heard Isha speak in this manner. Language suited only to commoners. Still, this man made her forget herself and her upbringing every time.
“There she is. There is the woman I once knew as Ruby Bagumi.” For the first time, a small smile tugged the corner of his lips. “Welcome to Wanai. Make yourself comfortable, well, as comfortable as you can under the circumstances. I’ll see you again soon.”
He whirled around and was gone before she could respond.
Her chest heaved as she tried to catch her breath and make sense of what just happened.
Why was Zain doing this to her? Why was he set on resurrecting the past?

Prah, Constantine and Baryeh Reviews: Twelve Nights by Sharon Struth | #PCBReviews

Happy December! It's my pleasure to bring you the final Prah, Constantine and Baryeh review for 2018. A December review is actually unusual, because we tend to take a break for the Holidays. Anyway, so we decided to feed our sweet teeth this time with a Christmas-themed romance titled Twelve Nights by Sharon Struth.

Don't forget to check out reviews from Prah and Constantine.

Here's the blurb

For Erik Lindholm, it’s been a long climb to the top of his company. Now, as president he has the power to bring his vision to life and speed his company in bold new directions. If that means a complete staff overhaul, so be it. If that means firing the woman who left his heart in tatters fifteen years earlier, it’s a business decision, not personal…

Beryl Foster is highly competent and respected by everyone at the office. But rumors of a big shake-up are rampant and—surprisingly, scarily—Beryl’s job as CFO is on the line. Fifteen years ago she made a decision to put her career before everything else. It was also the last time she and Erik shared a life together. Every Christmas is a reminder. This one could be a second chance…

MY REVIEWTwelve Nights is the story of Erik and Beryl who sacrificed their love for career advancement but get a second chance fifteen years later at Christmas to do it right. The story is sweet and short; fairly predictable, but enjoyable nonetheless. Recommended for anyone with a sweet romance tooth or readers looking for a quick Christmas novella that will leave you with a happy feeling.

"Between the Trees" is an excellent novel that's full of characters I continued to miss long after I finished the last page. Kathy Moczerniak's writing is a joy to read with vivid imagery from beginning to end. It truly makes you feel like you're right there within the story. I found it especially compelling that it's inspired by a true story, reminding us how important it is to remember that you never truly know what someone else is going through; a little kindness can go a long way. Even more important is its powerful message of hope and healing. I wholeheartedly recommend this book.”  - Amazon Reviewer

“Between the Trees by Kathy Moczerniak is an insightfully written story of a dysfunctional family in crisis. The characters are well developed as each family member struggles to find their way through the chaos. The tale is told through the eyes of the main character, Kathryn Lucas. She grapples with the tribulations of growing through her teenage years in a pained family dealing with divorce, alcoholism, and violence. Kathy Moczerniak's metaphorical writing style adds a sweet, sad, yet hopeful feeling throughout Kathryn's healing to wholeness.” - Goodreads Reviewer

Spotlight: His Until Midnight by Reese Ryan | #12DaysofDesire

Series: Texas Cattleman's Club: Bachelor AuctionStandalone: YesPublication Date: December 1, 2018Publisher: Harlequin DesireGenre: Contemporary Romance, InterracialHeat Level: Sensual
To the highest bidder goes…

A friendship with benefits?

When Tessa Noble takes the stage at a charity auction after a sexy makeover, her best friend, Ryan Bateman, must place the winning bid. It’s definitely not because he’s jealous. Their weekend getaway is a ploy for positive press…or so the rancher tells himself. But soon things take an unexpected turn from platonic to passionate, catapulting the couple far beyond the friend zone…

available on:amazon | barnes & noble | itunesgoogleExcerptTessa Noble stared at the configuration of high and low balls scattered on the billiard table.
“I’m completely screwed,” she muttered, sizing up her next move. After a particularly bad break and distracted play, she was losing badly.
But how on earth could she be expected to concentrate on billiards when her best friend Ryan Bateman was wearing a fitted performance T-shirt that highlighted every single pectoral muscle and his impressive biceps. He could have, at the very least, worn a shirt that fit, instead of one that was a size too small, as a way to purposely enhance his muscles. And the view when he bent over the table in a pair of broken-in jeans that hugged his firm ass like they were made for it…
How in the hell was she expected to play her best?
“You’re not screwed,” Ryan said in a deep, husky voice that was as soothing as a warm bath. Three parts sex-in-a-glass and one part confidence out the wazoo.
Tessa’s cheeks heated, inexplicably. Like she was a middle schooler giggling over double entendres and sexual innuendo.
“Maybe not, but you’d sure as hell like to be screwed by your best friend over there,” Gail Walker whispered in her ear before taking another sip of her beer.
Tessa elbowed her friend in the ribs, and the woman giggled, nearly shooting beer out of her nose.
Gail, always a little too direct, lacked a filter after a second drink.
Tessa walked around the billiard table, pool cue in hand, assessing her options again while her opponent huffed restlessly. Finally, she shook her head and sighed. “You obviously see something I don’t, because I don’t see a single makeable shot.”
Ryan sidled closer, his movements reminiscent of a powerful jungle cat stalking prey. His green eyes gleamed even in the dim light of the bar.
“You’re underestimating yourself, Tess,” Ryan murmured. “Just shut out all the noise, all the doubts, and focus.”
She studied the table again, tugging her lower lip between her teeth, before turning back to him. “Ryan, I clearly don’t have a shot.”
“Go for the four ball.” He nodded toward the purple ball wedged between two of her opponent’s balls.
Tessa sucked in a deep breath and gripped the pool cue with one hand. She pressed her other hand to the table, formed a bridge and positioned the stick between her thumb and forefinger, gliding it back and forth.
But the shot just wasn’t there.
“I can’t make this shot.” She turned to look at him. “Maybe you could, but I can’t.”
“That’s because you’re too tight, and your stance is all wrong.” Ryan studied her for a moment, then placed his hands on either side of her waist and shifted her a few inches. “Now you’re lined up with the ball. That should give you a better sight line.”
Tessa’s eyes drifted closed momentarily as she tried to focus on the four ball, rather than the lingering heat from Ryan’s hands. Or his nearness as he hovered over her.
She opened them again and slid the cue back and forth between her fingers, deliberating the position and pace of her shot.
“Wait.” Ryan leaned over beside her. He slipped an arm around her waist and gripped the stick a few inches above where she clenched it. He stared straight ahead at the ball, his face inches from hers. “Loosen your grip on the cue. This is a finesse shot, so don’t try to muscle it. Just take it easy and smack the cue ball right in the center, and you’ve got this. Okay?”
“Okay.” Tessa nodded, staring at the center of the white ball. She released a long breath, pulled back the cue and hit the cue ball dead in the center, nice and easy.
The cue ball connected with the four ball with a smack. The purple ball rolled toward the corner pocket and slowed, teetering on the edge. But it had just enough momentum to carry it over into the pocket.
“Yes!” Tessa squealed, smacking Ryan’s raised palm to give him a high five. “You’re amazing. You actually talked me through it.”
“You did all the work. I was just your cheering section.” He winked in that way that made her tummy flutter.
“Well, thank you.” She smiled. “I appreciate it.”
“What are best friends for?” He shrugged, picking up his beer and taking a sip from the bottle.
“Thought I was playing Tess,” Roy Jensen grumbled. “Nobody said anything about y’all tag-teaming me.”
“Oh, quit complaining, you old coot.” Tessa stared down her opponent. “I always turn a blind eye when you ask for spelling help when we’re playing Scrabble.”
Roy’s cheeks tinged pink, and he mumbled under his breath as Tessa moved around the table, deciding which shot to take next. She moved toward the blue two ball.
“Hey, Ryan.” Lana, the way-too-friendly barmaid, sidled up next to him, her chest thrust forward and a smile as wide as the Rio Grande spread across her face. “Thought you might want another beer.”
“Why thank you, kindly.” Ryan tipped an imaginary hat and returned the grin as he accepted the bottle.
Tessa clenched her jaw, a burning sensation in her chest. She turned to her friend, whispering so neither Lana nor Ryan could hear her.
“Why doesn’t she just take his head and smash it between the surgically enhanced boobs her ex-boyfriend gave her as a consolation prize? It’d be a lot easier for both of them.”
“Watch it there, girl. You’re beginning to sound an awful lot like a jealous girlfriend.” Gail could barely contain her grin.
“There’s nothing to be jealous of. Ryan and I are just friends. You know that.”
“Best friends.” Her friend pointed out, as she studied Ryan flirting with Lana. “But let’s face it. You’re two insanely attractive people. Are you really going to try and convince me that neither of you has ever considered—”
“We haven’t.” Tessa took her shot, missing badly. It was a shot she should’ve hit, even without Ryan’s help. But she was too busy eavesdropping on his conversation with Lana.
“Well, for a person who doesn’t have any romantic interest in her best friend, you seem particularly interested in whether or not he’s flirting with the big-boobed barmaid.” Gail shrugged when Tessa gave her the stink eye. “What? You know it’s true.”
Tessa scowled at her friend’s words and the fact that Roy was taking advantage of her distraction. He easily sank one ball, then another. With no more striped balls left on the table, Roy had a clear shot at the eight ball.
He should be able to make that shot blindfolded.
“Well?” Gail prodded her.
“I’m not jealous of Lana. I just think Ryan could do better. That he should do better than to fall for the calculated ploy of a woman who has dollar signs in her eyes. Probably angling for butt implants this time.”
Gail giggled. “And why would he want a fake ass when he was mere inches from the real deal?” She nodded toward Tessa’s behind, a smirk on her face.
Tessa was fully aware that she’d inherited her generous curves from her mother. She was just as clear about Ryan Bateman’s obliviousness to them. To him, she was simply one of the guys. But then again, the comfy jeans and plaid button-down shirts that filled her closet didn’t do much to highlight her assets.
Hadn’t that been the reason she’d chosen such a utilitarian wardrobe in the first place?
“Dammit!” Roy banged his pool cue on the wooden floor, drawing their attention to him. He’d scratched on the eight ball.
Tessa grinned. “I won.”
“Because I scratched.” Roy’s tone made it clear that he felt winning by default was nothing to be proud of.
“A win’s a win, Jensen.” She wriggled her fingers, her palm open. “Pay up.”
“You won? Way to go, Tess. I told you that you had this game in the bag.” Ryan, suddenly beside her, wrapped a big, muscular arm around her shoulder and pulled her into a half hug.
“Well, at least one of us believed in me.” Tessa counted the four wrinkled five-dollar bills Roy stuffed in her palm begrudgingly.
“Always have, always will.” He beamed at her and took another swig of his beer.
Tessa tried to ignore the warmth in her chest that filtered down her spine and fanned into areas she didn’t want to acknowledge.

EXCERPT
She pushed aside the thoughts, focusing on her present need for answers. What was Omar doing here? Had Majid sent him?
“Is she in a lot of pain, Doctor?” Omar asked, his gaze directed at someone on the other side of the bed.“She shouldn’t be in unbearable pain, Your Royal Highness. In fact, we’ve reduced the dosage of her pain medication.”
“Why are they calling you Your Royal Highness?”As she’d been made to understand, there were three formal styles used in addressing members of the royal family in Sudar. ‘Majesty’ for the king, ‘Royal Highness’ for the Queen and the heir apparent, and ‘Highness’ for everyone else.
“Wh—where’s Majid?”
Her voice grated against her dry throat. Worry snaked up her spine. Something was wrong. She felt it in her bones.
Omar looked at her, and she found herself trapped in his gaze.
“How much do you remember?”
She frowned. “Remember?”
As if his rich voice had unlocked a door, it came to her all at once. She and Majid had been in the car, discussing the protocols to be observed for his coronation. Funny, since he’d apparently already broken one rule by travelling in the same car with her. She remembered the relief with which she’d latched on to the topic, glad to take her mind off how they’d approach their first night as husband and wife.
Then…
Bang!It sounded like a gunshot or maybe a canon. The car careened to the left. Everything happened so fast. The driver swore, maintaining an iron grip on the steering wheel, but the car kept speeding.
“Watch out!” Majid yelled.
Screeching tires, then another bang! Something had hit them. She only remembered seeing headlights at the window before they were airborne. The car may have flipped over before crashing to the ground. Then, everything went black.
She shut her eyes as if it would somehow turn off the faucet of memories. Warmth engulfed her, and she realised Omar had taken her hand as he sat on the bed.
“You and Majid had an accident,” he said softly.
“How’s he?”
Dread clutched her gut, telling her she knew the answer. Prince Majid didn’t make it.
“Majid fought bravely, but eventually succumbed to his injuries.”
“No,” she whispered, tears filling her eyes.
For several seconds, she hoped this was a nightmare. She’d wake up and find Majid lying by her side, and they’d laugh about this weird dream. Because if this wasn’t happening in her head, then it meant Majid had died; she was a widow. What did it mean for the alliance between their two nations?
Her mind was in no position to process matters of such enormity. She refocused on what Omar had said.
One word stuck in her mind.
“Eventually? How long have I been here?”
“Two weeks,” he answered. “Since you’re awake now, you’ll be coming home soon.”
Coming home. Why did that sound off? She frowned as something else occurred.
“You called me your wife.”
He stared at her for a long moment as though trying to decide whether to answer.
“In accordance with our tradition, I inherited my brother’s widow.”

Meet Ogonna Moneke from The Governor's Wife by Amaka Azie | #CharacterInterview @AmakaAzie

Hello fans and readers!
I'm pleased to bring you this interview with Ogonna Moneke the heroine from The Governor’s Wife by Amaka Azie. I've been dying to sink my teeth into this book, since reading The Senator's Daughter.
Good day, Ogonna, and welcome to my blog. Please introduce yourself to my readersI am Ogonna Moneke, the founder of Soaring Eagles, a charity supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse. A survivor myself, I am devoted to making my safehouse a haven for women who have escaped the clutches of an abusive partner. I consider this my greatest achievement.
Tell me something people would be surprised to know about you:
I have a phobia of spiders. I freeze up and become temporarily paralysed when a spider crosses my path. My boyfriend who loves animals and insects always teases me about it.
What’s your most valued possession: Soaring Eagles safehouse— A building donated by my man for the purpose of lodging victims of domestic abuse. Even if my charity expands and acquires more safehouses, this very one would always have a place in my heart.
Who is the love of your life: Philip Adamu—My boyfriend. We have known each other since we were teenagers. He is my first and only love and I’m glad that we eventually found our way back to each other after a horrible period of separation.
What frightens you most: Losing my confidence like I did during my marriage. I couldn’t recognise who I had become, and I never want to be in the position where I lose control of my self-worth again.

Most embarrassing moment: The night I walked in on my best friend, Lara, making out with her husband on the kitchen counter when I was their house guest. It was a few minutes after midnight and I was desperate for a snack. I thought everyone was asleep, so imagine my shock and embarrassment to find them half-dressed and going at it in the kitchen with total abandon. My mortification lasted for days.
What’s your greatest regret: Isolating myself and cutting off my best friend Lara during the dark times in my marriage. I’m glad she didn’t give up on me.
What’s your best gift: A painting of me resting on the back of a soaring Eagle given to me by my man. It has sentimental value because it represents my new-found freedom from the clutches of an abusive relationship.
What’s your favourite colour and flower: Silver.
Roses—something about the thorns on rose stems reminds me that life isn’t always perfect but can be beautiful if one focuses on the flower. Oh, here I am being deep again. *chuckles*

Which among these four can you give up for a year: Alcohol, sex, mobile phones or chocolates: Mobile phones. I avoid the internet and I prefer actually talking to people face-to-face than using gadgets. Sometimes, I forget my phone at home when out and about. It’s a habit that annoys my family, especially my brother Emeka who lives in Atlanta and has to communicate with me by phone. Oh, I can’t give up chocolates or sex. The two go well together.
Alcohol would be a close second, though. I’m not a big drinker. But I do enjoy the occasional red wine.

What qualities attracts you to a man? Loyalty. It’s very sexy to have absolute confidence in a man’s loyalty and devotion to his woman. I can’t stand dodgy cheats.

What character trait can you not stand? Violence. I believe dialogue can solve every problem and anyone who resorts to aggression to make a point is repulsive to me.

What character trait can you forgive: Tardiness. I am not always on time to events, so I can forgive someone who is late and apologetic about it.
Thanks so much for dropping by today, Ogonna. I wish you success in your cause and happiness with Philip.

EXCERPTAs soon as he touched her, Philip realised he’d been lying to himself for the past seven years. Sharp shards of desire, hot and raw, cascaded all over his body, leaving him helpless. He wasn’t over her. Not yet. Maybe never.
The sensible thing would be to let her go immediately, remove his hands from her narrow waist and walk away. But sensible didn’t seem to be in his skill set anymore. Maybe never had been regarding Ogonna. Being this close to her, touching her, had scrambled his brain. All he could do was douse himself in her aura.

Slowly, he slid his palm from her waist, eyes fixated on hers. His hand glided up her back until it rested on the softness of her long graceful neck. With deliberate intent, he moved his thumb over the gentle angle between her ear and jaw. Deftly, he stroked the area with a light pressure and watched keenly for her response. Ogonna’s hot spot. Haunting memories of her whimpering restlessly against him when he touched her there filtered through his heated brain. Did it still turn her on?

Her breath hitched sharply. “Oooh,” she moaned. A primitive sound which caused his penis to throb, pushing against his unyielding black jeans. Apparently, it still did the trick—for both of them.

The knowledge stoked his arousal. Unable to resist, he lowered his eyes to her full parted lips...red, soft, tempting. God, he wanted to kiss her. Badly. A deep part of his subconscious rose up in protest. This was Ogonna, the woman who broke him by running off to marry someone else. He shouldn’t want to have anything to do with her, let alone kiss her. He needed to bring this madness to an end, turn and walk away.

But Philip remained rooted to the spot, deepening the pressure of his thumb instead, and then trailing it slowly across her full lower lip. Her tongue darted out, flickering lightly. A bold move. Unexpected.

His eyes swept to hers and he froze. They were wide as saucers, as if startled by her own boldness. It would have been easier for him to let her go if even an iota of repulsion or uncertainty registered in their dark depths. Instead, something primal flashed in her pupils. His breath trapped in his chest. Ogonna wanted him, too. The realisation sent a wave of need through him, weakening him.

Another soft moan came from her. His nostrils flared, and he let out a groan from deep within his throat. Almost roughly, he reached for her face, cradled it in both hands and brought his mouth down on hers.
