The Two Sides to the Psychology of Patriotism (Plus a New Release)

by Kassandra Lamb ~ When I first set out to write this post, I intended it to be a relatively light piece about the psychology of patriotism. But as I started writing, I realized there is a dark side to this subject. And, in light of recent events, that cannot and should not be ignored. More on that in a moment.

But first the basics—what is the psychology of patriotism?

Most people love the country in which they grew up, some so intensely they are willing to sacrifice everything for their ...

Off-Week Goodies: Interview with Kass Lamb and a Virtual Book Launch Party!

I had the pleasure of being interviewed a couple of weeks ago by author Ally Shields on her Coffee Chat. We talked about my upcoming new release and a little about my writing process. She asks good questions, starting with a request to talk about something unusual that is not in one’s bio.

interview with Kass Lamb

My answer: I owned a small horse farm back when we lived in Maryland. Only the promise of warmer weather and palm trees was able to lure me away from that beloved property.

Check out the whole “Interv...

Happy First Day of Summer~What’s Your Fave Summer Activity? (Plus a New Release)

In honor of the first day of Summer, we decided to do a group post, answering the question: What’s your fave summer activity? To kick things off, here’s…

fave summer activity Shannon Esposito

Summer is my favorite season in Florida because I’m happiest in the water. The kids are always up for boating (even during these dreaded teenage years).

Boating has allowed us to make so many priceless family memories like lobstering and snorkling in the Keys, scalloping in Crystal River or just hanging out in our ...

A Pacifist’s Gratitude for the Military

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I’m rerunning one of my favorite Memorial Day posts, expressing gratitude for the military, even though I am a pacifist (in most cases). It seemed appropriate, considering world events lately.

(Note: the following are the opinions of this author and do not necessarily reflect those of the other misterio press authors.)

gratitude for the military I’m a pacifist by nature.

I abhor violence. I know that sounds weird coming from a murder mystery writer, but fiction and reality are two differen...

The Nexus Between Murder Mystery Games and Cozy Mysteries

by Kirsten Weiss ~ Have you ever played murder mystery games at parties?

I’m a huge fan, though I’ve only played a few. Maybe the appeal is that they’re a lot like cozy mysteries. The crime is bloodless. The focus is on solving a puzzle. And they’re a lot more fun than an actual murder. The games, like cozy mysteries, are all play, no trauma. The body is discovered, the game’s afoot, and hilarity (hopefully) ensues.

But the games I was familiar with always required X number of males and fe...

Resolving Conflict Effectively (An Encore), Plus a New Collection

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I’m still up to my elbows in editing so I thought I’d re-run a post I also mentioned recently in my Trust Your Gut post; this one is on resolving conflict effectively.

It seems appropriate right now. With so much rancor in our society these days, we need to learn how to dig beneath the surface and find common ground and positive solutions.

Here’s one of the ways we can resolve conflict effectively…

I first learned this model in a video in graduate school many (many,...

Job Description of a Mother

by Kassandra Lamb ~ I know I’ve been running a lot of encore posts lately. That’s partly because I’m up to my elbows in rewrites and editing of my next book. But also partly because I’m finding some great old posts that deserve to be re-run. Like this one on the Job Description of a Mother!

Motherhood is probably the most difficult job any woman ever attempts. And yet most of us take on the job with little foreknowledge of what we’re getting into. So I thought I’d come up with a job descripti...
