The Way to My Heart (Blog Hop!)

Less Than Three Press is turning 4 this month ^^ In celebration, they’ve arranged this blog hop, where LT3 authors talk about the things they love in life.

I have had two real obsessions in my life—the first was Harry Potter along with about half the country (I swear in school this was probably the only book a lot of people read voluntarily). I still love Harry Potter, and it’s something I hold close to my heart. It captured my imagination more than any other book and I can remember a bunch of...

Filler

Really, this is just a filler. I haven’t made a post in a while and I feel like I should, so I’m writing this. Hallo thar.

I have been doing many things this week, including writing, a trip to Exeter and another trip back home for horror films with friends and dinner with family pre Mother’s Day. I’ve also probably maxed out on my work sick days now. Too many hangovers! (and yet not nearly enough drinking) And of course I’ve been job hunting, because apparently this is something that wants to...

Something Happened!

Today Something Happened on the Way to Heaven was finally released as an e-book anthology!

There are 10 stories all told and because they’re all a little bit different, there’s something for everyone. They’re definitely worth checking out, and I’m looking forward to finishingWatch as My World Ends by Kayla Bain-Vrba, which I started reading in serial but never finished, not because it wasn’t good—it wasamazing, but because I’m terrible with finishing my reading if I don’t do it all in one go.

Pancakes

Happy belated pancake day / early Valentine’s day! Just a little snippet of myBestiary boys, Dorian and Evan, post-story. Mild spoilers, but not really.

Dorian eyed Evan over his pancakes. The bastard was eating his way through a whole pile of them; even though he’d been the one to upend the last of the batter over the floor, he wouldn’t share. “It was your batter,” he’d said. “So you should have taken better care of it.”

“Maybe you should have taken better care of yourself before I had to come...

Shiny Update

The first story I ever wrote for publication was One for Sorrow, about a reaping angel and a grieving human. I wrote this one straight out of uni, in 2011, and it was accepted for LT3′s Something Happened on the Way to Heaven serial anthology.

In just under three weeks’ time, on the 20th of February, Something Happened on the Way to Heaven will be available as a collected anthology. I’ve read a couple of the stories while they were in serial, and they’re pretty damn good. I have to admit I’m no...

Free Fiction: The Promise of Rain

Dane leaned against the brick wall, one foot propped against it, and held his lighter to the tip of his cigarette, flicking it several times before it ignited, setting the paper aglow.

The slate grey sky held the promise of rain, although it was the warmest it had been all month. Against it, gulls careened, wheeling about and calling to each other as they flew out towards the cliffs and, beyond them, the sea. It was the kind of sky that made everything below it look washed out and unreal, and...

Happy New Year!

This is the first new year that has actually meant something for me. My first year where I’m not living by academic time, where the year doesn’t begin with September and a boxful of new books.

If you’ve been following me on twitter, you may or may not know that this year has been a bit of a pain in the arse. It’s felt like one long year of trying to make the rent and have enough left over to eat every day. I think I’ve written so many covering letters that I could probably make...

Prompts: Christmas

It’s almost Christmas! So close to Christmas in fact, that the seasonal discounts are dwindling, you can no longer order anything in in time, and the shops are all out of Christmas bags.

One of my favourite little Christmas memories (which may or may not be accurate, because ten years is a long time to hold a memory straight) is from when me and my then best friend started getting into Wicca (it didn’t last). We were 12 and reading about Yuletide in Silver Ravenwolf’s Teen Witch and came acros...

Giveaway: The Dog in the Mist

I’m finally ready to host my first ever giveaway! ^_^ I will be giving an e-book copy of The Dog in the Mist to one lucky commenter (maybe two lucky commenters if I’m feeling generous and get enough comments).

Dorian has been favored by tragedy for what seems like his entire life. He’s lost his parents, his best friend, and now he’s lost his gran as well. As if that’s not enough, he is stalked by a black dog too large to be just an ordinary dog, and which seems to bring death in its wake. To s...

The Dog is Out!

Well, today’s the day. The Dog in the Mist is finally out and available for purchase.

The story follows Dorian as he struggles to deal with the loss of his best friend and the death of his last parental figure—his gran. At the same time, he’s followed by a mysterious black dog. It’s just a dog, but it sends a chill through Dorian whenever he catches sight of it, and as it follows him, death seems to follow it.

It’s set in the little moorland town of Okehampton, a setting for which I have to tha...
