Mid Week Tease: Unadulterated Braxton Malone’s Kiss
Welcome to the very first week of Mid Week Tease!
Authors: this is a great opportunity to spotlight a few lines or even a paragraph or two from a new release or backlisted title. Readers: you get to sample some delicious snippets! We’ll do our best to tease, titillate and tantalize you into the weekend.
My mid week tease is from The Submission of a Mafia Princess. Here’s what follows Brax’s vanilla attempt at a first kiss. Toni prefers pure, unadulterated Braxton Malone.
Opening her eyes, she gazed from his lips to meet his stare. “Now fucking kiss me like I know you really want to,” she said in barely a whisper.
He palmed the back of her head and pulled her hair guiding her chin upward. Focusing on the hollow valley between her jawbone and neck, he nipped the pulse point at her throat. His teeth captured a pinch of skin and bit lightly. A groan vibrated from her throat when he followed it with a sweep of his tongue. Strands of her glossy hair swept over his forearm along with a soft summer breeze. Gathering her locks in his fist, he wrapped the silky rope of hair around his palm. His cock twitched with her hitched breaths. He guided her head down and touched her forehead to his. Her eyes bore deep into him as she sent him a silent message. With a growl he wasn’t sure came from his throat or hers, his lips were upon hers again, capturing her tongue with his. Sweeping his tongue over her teeth, he acquainted himself with her mouth. It was a place he could never tire of. She moaned softly, leaning into his body. He broke their kiss, not trusting his next move. Visions of carrying her to a remote wooded area of the park and binding her hands so that they rested helplessly just above her luscious ass flooded his thoughts as his hardened thickness strained against his jeans.
Swallowing hard, he hooked his thumb under her chin, lifting her glistening lips to his face. “You undo me,” he said, stealing another kiss. She whispered his name as his teeth grazed along her bottom lip. Her warm breath blanketed his face as his mind raced to a vision of Toni slipping off the bench and kneeling in front of him, her wide, stormy blue eyes waiting for his next command. He pulled away suddenly, leaving them both breathless but fingers raked through the back of his hair silently begging him to continue.

For Three Days, I was a Romance Author. Period. #RWA13
RWA 2013 has come and gone and for three days, I was a Romance Author. Period.
For three days, I wore pretty dresses, jewelry with extra bling and a bright pink flower tucked into my name tag. I attended workshops conducted by the best of the best in romance. I placed faces to names I see on NYT/USA Bestseller lists, on the front table of my Barnes & Noble, and in my supermarket across from the milk case. I met and secretly “fangirled” over authors I admire and who inspire me every time I sit down to write.
For three days, I talked to new authors just starting out asking me, me, how I got my foot in the door. For three days, I learned the struggle and sacrifice of incredible women such as Kristan Higgins who used to clean houses for extra money and of brand new authors who took loans to attend conference.
For three days, I walked empowered and confident, armed with tools to make me a better writer. At the same time, twinges of inadequacy and self doubt about my writing and the ability to succeed churned within. It was exciting. It was scary. It was amazing.
For three days, I was Sandra Bunino, Romance Author. This is in sharp contrast with the three hundred and sixty-two other days of the year when I’m a romance author, wife, mother, corporate slave, food shopper, errand runner, dog walker, bed maker, laundress, cook, housekeeper (I use those last two titles loosely), and everything else that falls under the responsibility of a working mother with a passion to do something more. Something special. Something spectacular, if even just for me.
The RWA 2013 experience makes me strive to be better. To make better use of my time and be more disciplined with self imposed deadlines. It makes me focus on my writing, to put everything I have into my book and to tell the best possible story I can. The readers who invest their time and money into my work deserve it, and I deserve it too.
One thing I love about attending this conference is being able to benchmark achievements over the year and make new goals to work fight toward for next summer. Some of my goals are personal, others I can share:
I will have a MS ready to pitch to the big players next year.
I will write everyday and be faithful to my word count goals.
I will limit my social media time (also known as the black hole of time sucking) and make better use of my time.
I will finish writing the story I started. The one that scares me personally, the one that’s been niggling at me over the past few months. The one I hope to be pitch ready by next year.
I will read many of these wonderful books received at conference and try very hard not to feed my Amazon 1-click addiction by buying even more books.
I will blog more often and give my readers great stuff to check out each week.
I will help support my fellow authors. Whether through promotion, beta reads, advice, and/or collaboration. Support, critique and encouragement are paramount in this industry and I will do my part.
There they are, my lucky seven. Notice becoming a better cook and housekeeper are not on my list. Oh well, maybe next year. *snort*
xoxo

Blogging My Way Through #RWA13: Day 2
The view from my hotel room
There’s something about the Atlanta air or maybe it’s pure exhaustion, but I’ve been sleeping really well here. So well that I missed some of the 8:30 session on serialized novels (okay, 8:30 is ridiculously early, is it not?).
I’m not much of a morning person, however, I’m glad I made it to Q&A time at the end because I learned a lot about serials in that short time. I’ve had a fascination for serials in the past year or so. If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you may remember my holiday blog serial, The Train Ride. I can’t say much now because I’m sworn to secrecy, but I will say there’ll be another holiday blog serial this year and I’m super excited about it! *chair dance*
Okay, moving on before I spill the beans…
Now, if you’re thinking about pitching a serial, a complete first installment and a synopsis on the rest is adequate for submission. Final word count should be between 75K – 100K words and each installment should be around 20K each. Sara Fawkes recommends a 2.99 price point as the high, $0.99 and/or giving first installment as a freebie are also good choices, especially if you’re an unknown author.
Another great suggestion from Sara: Write an alternate ending or a “what would happen if…” as a blog post for your readers. Make them feel special with some insider-only information. This can apply to stand alone stories as well as serials. Readers love bonus material, especially if it’s free!
After a much needed venti non-fat latte, I sat in on a marketing session on email newsletters. Here are some quick facts about successful newsletter strategies:
The best days and time to email newsletters are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays at noon.
Romance newsletter open rates are higher during the school year than over the summer or holidays. Makes sense, busy moms with kids at home don’t have time for email.
Erotic and paranormal romance readers are more likely to open and click on a link in a newsletter than other sub-genres.
Subject lines should be 50 characters or less. They should be specific and create excitement about the content of the newsletter.
Today’s keynote luncheon featured two-time RITA recipient Kristan Higgins. I didn’t know much about Kristan before her speech, but WOW she’s amazing. I loved her immediately when she walked on stage rocking a form fitting dress and said “Behold the power of Spanx!” Kristan is a great success story. I won’t try to do her speech justice by explaining it here, it was too powerful for words. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the ballroom by 2 pm. Here are a couple quotes:
On balancing writing, life and family: “If there is no balance there is no joy, and if there is no joy there is no book.”
On writing: “No one can lie on your computer keyboard and make you stop writing. Except your cat.”
And: “Don’t strive to be the next Nora or Sylvia. Be the first you.”
Speaking of Sylvia….SQUEEEEEE! I talked to Sylvia Day today!!! How cool is that? Thanks to the Avon and Berkley book signings I also scored signed books and a quick hello from many more of my favorite authors including Jane Porter (I don’t begin a book without revisiting my notes from her RWA12 workshop), Laura Kaye, Sara Fawkes, Roni Loren, Jill Shalvis, Beth Kery, J. Lynn, J. Kenner and Susan Elizabeth Phillips.
The last workshop of the day was Tiffany Reisz and Roni Loren’s BDSM 101: It Takes More than Handcuffs. I admire both of these writers. They’ve blown through road blocks as writers of erotic romance (Roni) and erotica (Tiffany) and continue to move these genres forward. A couple of points from their session:
There’s a flood of BDSM currently on the market. If you’re going to write it, do your homework. Write it accurately and well.
The kink should be an aspect of the story, not the story.
There’s a power play in every sexual relationship. This applies to both kinky and vanilla.
Don’t apologize for what you write. Be proud and own it.
Roni Loren’s Melt Into You (one of my top ten books of 2012) is nominated for a RITA Award this year. That’s pretty incredible considering RWA’s conservative nature and the fact that Roni’s book is a menage with M/M elements! It was great to see these two talented authors again and snap this picture for one of my favorite Twitter followers and very sweet reader, Cheyenne.
Wow, this is a long post! I’ll leave you with a great quote from Nora Roberts:
“How can I write so many books? Because I’m not on Facebook and Twitter.”
Be sure to tune in tomorrow for my last report from RWA13!

Blogging My Way Through #RWA13: Day 1
View from my hotel room!
Hi there from beautiful Atlanta, Georgia! I’m at the annual RWA (Romance Writers of America) Conference where over one thousand folks in the romance fiction industry come together for workshops, meetings, pitch session and networking.
The conference always kicks off with the “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing event on Thursday night. This was my first book signing and it was a blast. Authors are arranged in alphabetical order and I ended up across from popular YA author, Ally Carter. She had a steady stream of very excited preteen girls. It was sweet and fun to watch, however, those of us with more *clears throat* adult books were shielding covers. Friendly suggestion to RWA: think about a YA signing section next year!
Thanks to the readers who came over to say hi and took copies of Marooned with the Millionaire and The Satin Rose Experience! I’m honored my books were among your choices.
Friday kicked off bright and early with a steady schedule of workshops.
Elizabeth Boyle
The two I really enjoyed were Elizabeth Boyle’s Hooks: Baiting the Reader and Susan Elizabeth Phillips’ Writing Great Characters. These two talented authors were hysterical and happy to share their experience.
Here are a few points I took away from those sessions:
Most authors should throw out the first chapter of their MS. It’s usually filled with backstory. It’s not where the story should start.
Readers don’t need to know everything the authors knows.
Character growth arc: The H/h should be capable of something at the end of the book they weren’t able to do at the beginning of the story.
Beware of the ‘Romance Nazis’ who believe there’s one way to write a romance. They’re wrong. You can break a rule, just do it well.
Don’t abandon a story when it gets tough and move onto something new. Push through it and finish.
Don’t just hook the reader – impale them.
Engage the reader with emotion from the very beginning. Give them a reason to want to know what happens to your characters.
Your title and cover are hooks. Consider them carefully.
Hooks should ask a question, answer a question or beg a question.
After the workshops, it was party time! Lots of different events were going on last night. I went to the Passionate Ink and the newly formed Contemporary Romance RWA chapter parties. Between parties I met author Jillian Chantal for a drink and placed my bag down with my party favor from the Passionate Ink party sticking out.
Here’s a visual. It’s a crop~>
Well, it created quite a stir with a group of people here for a Microsoft convention. They asked to borrow it and the crop was a prop in a few photos. It was a great opportunity to discuss the romance publishing industry and I even sold a book or two.
So, the next time you go to a bar, don’t forget your riding crop. It’s a great conversation starter.
More from RWA tomorrow!

ALL THINGS GIRL: On my way to #RWA13
I’m packing for the RWA (Romance Writers of America) annual conference this week in Atlanta. This will be my second conference. I’m hardly a pro at navigating these events, however, hopefully I’ve learned the lay of the land and can make the most of the three short days.
The conference is energy charged, fast moving and yes, pretty exhausting. Lots of people, material and planning goes into attending.
Here are the top 5 things I hope to accomplish:
1. Sign my own books at the Readers for Life Literacy signing. Last year, I never imagined I’d be one of the signing authors. Thanks to my publisher, Evernight, I not only have one book to sign, I have two!
If you’re in Atlanta on Wednesday, come on by!
2. Blog my way through RWA! I hope to blog about the highlights of each day. Be sure to stop in for pictures and contests. I’ll give away lots of the books given out at the conference.
3. Say hello to Tiffany Reisz and Roni Loren. I met both of these ladies in person last year. They are talented authors of erotic romance as well as wonderful people. They’ve been a huge source of inspiration to me over the year and I’m excited Roni Loren is nominated for a RITA Award this year. That’s great news for erotic romance writers! Tiffany and Roni are also hosting a BDSM 101 workshop together that’s not to be missed.
4. Apply the final touches to the manuscript I will submit shortly.
5. Have fun and take it all in. I have a list of authors I chat with on social media who I can’t wait to meet in person and I hope to meet more while sipping an umbrella drink at Trader Vics. Who knows, maybe Nora Roberts will be thirsty at the same time. A girl can dream, can’t she?

HOT NEW RELEASE: Sunset Heat by C.R. Moss @CRMoss
This week’s HOT NEW RELEASE is from my mango martini partner-in-crime, C.R. Moss. I was fortunate to meet C.R. during a recent trip to Vegas and she’s as sweet as she is talented. If you’re in the Vegas area or plan to be there in October, be sure to check out the Hot Mojave Knights reader event. A link with details is at the end of this post.
Feel the Heat in Las Vegas!
The Sunset ladies are back, and this time it’s Seana’s turn. She’s heading up to a resort on Mount Charleston with her cousin and a friend to participate in a 1NightStand date her other cousin set her up on. Get ready to feel the heat…
Blurb for Sunset Heat
A 1NightStand story from Decadent Publishing & book 4 in the ‘Sunset’ series
(Book Content: Contemporary, Erotic, Chick Lit, Romance)
Can one night transform a woman’s life?
Seana Tramonto feels doomed when it comes to relationships. When she’s set up through the 1Night Stand service, she’s apprehensive at best. Her concern turns to ire when her match turns out to be a man who broke her heart years ago. Old wounds are slow to heal no matter how sexy the man asking for forgiveness.
Zachary Russo, a Las Vegas policeman, is talked into doing a 1NS date. When he learns it’s with his high school tutor and friend, the girl he stood up before the Homecoming dance, he’s determined to make it up to her. But seeing her again opens his eyes to the sexy woman she’s become. Can he prove he’s grown up or will circumstance beyond his control kill their second chance?
~ Excerpt ~
“I had it bad for you.”
“So, what’s your wish now?”
If she leaned toward him, turned just enough, maybe he’d kiss her. Did she have the nerve? What would he think of her advance?
“Seana?”
She closed her eyes, relishing the silky way he spoke her name. “Hmm?”
“Your wish. You’re going to enter the drawing the charity is having, right?”
“I can’t say or it won’t come true,” she murmured. Just move your face toward his. Do it! Though her inner diva cheered her on, she couldn’t.
“A superstition for shooting stars and birthday candles.”
“So? I don’t want to take chances.” Yes you do, her inner cheerleader chided.
He brushed his cheek against hers. Warm breath caressed her ear. Restless throbs of desire pulsed in her veins. Sexual excitement curled in her womb. It’d been quite some time since feeling those particular sensations. Who’d I do it with last? Oh, the guy in the off-Broadway showing of West Side Story. Antonio something or other. She’d almost told him she loved him, but his ex-girlfriend came back into the picture, which snipped her out of it.
Could Zach be her one? Even after all this time and despite their difficulties? Back when she’d helped him in high school, she’d wanted him and would have given him her all. She didn’t feel any different now. Turning her face toward his finally, she prepared for the first of what she hoped would be many kisses. None came. He wasn’t as close as she thought. Seana stared into his eyes, becoming lost in their depths.
“Seana?”
“Yes?” She breathed in his spicy, clean scent, wanting to nibble on the muscle stretching from his neck into the top of his white dress shirt.
“Tell me more about the tutoring room.”
“Why? Interested in playing out my fantasy?”
Zach rubbed her knee. His touch seared her skin under her black sequined dress. “But we’re not in a school. There are no classrooms to use.”
The scenario she’d envisioned as a young adult awaited her next move. If there’s ever a time to be bold and spontaneous, it’s now. Quit stalling and take the leap. Feeling naughty and way too frisky to miss the opportunity, she drew circles on his leg with her fingertip. “We can improvise by going up to your room or mine and pretending we’re in a classroom.”
Seconds clicked by. Zach didn’t say a word. Wasn’t he interested? Her palms became clammy. I can’t be rejected again.

Testing the Ties that Bind #SexySnippets
Hiya snippeteers! I’ve been away from posting Sunday snippets for a while, but I’m back with a brand new WIP for you! The next book in my Satin Rose Experience (SRE) series is in its final stages.
This story features the art of Shibari, a Japanese rope bondage technique that dates back to ancient Japan when it was used as a martial art to restrain. In this unedited scene, Mason had taken Kate to a Shibari demonstration at SRE. Mia lets them into one of the suites so Kate can look around…
Mason pushed off from the wall and walked to her. “The cords are an extension of the arms and fingers of the person performing the tying. They’re meant to caress and comfort. The ropes are symbolic of the connection between the individuals involved in the scene as you saw outside.” Mason stood just a whisper from her face. His thumb brushed her fingers holding the silk cord as their gazes locked. “Kneel on the platform and put your hands behind your back.”
Thanks for stopping by, I hope to share more of this WIP in the coming weeks!
**Shameless plug alert** If you are in the Atlanta area, please consider attending the Readers for Life Literacy Autographing event on July 17th from 5:30 – 7:30 at the Marriott Marquis. I will be there along with 450 other authors. I’ll be signing copies of Marooned with the Millionaire and The Satin Rose Experience: Volume One!

HOT NEW RELEASE: The Orgasm Project by Doris O’Connor
Doris O’Connor has become a regular on my blog. And for good reason – she’s on fire! You can always count on a sexy new release from Doris. She’s one of the most prolific writers I know. She’s also one of the sweetest and supportive authors out there. If you haven’t read anything from Ms. O’Connor, you’re in for a treat because her July 3rd release is SEXY! I’ll let Doris tell you all about it…
Thanks so much for having me here today, Sandra.
I always love being here, and I brought my boys along. Well, strictly speaking they are not my boys, never were, truth be told. Carter and Jake left their womanizing ways behind the minute they spotted Anastasia. It took them some time to convince their sister of that fact, however. You see, Maria had no intention of letting her brothers anywhere near her best friend, but when Anastasia confessed that she had never had the big O with a man—well, there was only thing she could do—call in her brothers.
If anyone knows how to show a woman a good time it’s these two, and this story was a hoot to write. It’s been a while since I wrote a ménage and I had almost forgotten how much fun it is.
So without further ado I give you Carter and Jake doing what they do best—lavish attention on Anastasia…
What’s a girl to do when her best friend confides her inability to orgasm? Set up the Orgasm Project of course, and Maria knows just the guys to do it. Full of themselves her hot as Hades brothers might be, but at least they are safe. What can possibly go wrong?
Anastasia wants the ground to swallow her whole, when she meets the twins. How embarrassing can this be, even if the gorgeous hunks set her knickers aflame with just one look?
Jake and Carter know their mate when they see her, and nothing is going to stop these cougar shifters from claiming her. Their night of passion leads to discoveries neither one of them is prepared for.
Has their bite awakened a monster or their destiny?
Excerpt:
“What if I don’t want to go home with you?”
She opened her eyes to find Jake smiling down at her. Carter’s gaze, too, sought hers through the rear view mirror, and a shiver of unease went down her spine at the disapproval she read in his eyes—eyes that bled from blue to golden and back again as she watched in stunned fascination.
“What are you?” The question left her lips before she could stop herself, and she inwardly groaned at her stupidity.
“You know what we are.” Jake said, his hot breath a whisper’s breadth away from her neck as he sniffed her again. “Look into yourself and tell me that you don’t feel this connection. I know you do. Your body gives you away as surely as your sweet scent. You’re wet for us just thinking about what we might do to you, and that’s not fear I can smell, but arousal. You want us as much as we want you, have wanted you from the first moment we caught your scent all those months ago.”
“You can’t be serious.”
Anastasia shook her head and pushed against his chest. His heartbeat thundered under her fingertips in tune with her own galloping rhythm. The fact that he seemed as affected as her by whatever was happening between them gave her a heady rush of feminine power. Liquid arousal pooled between her thighs and slicked the top of her legs. She put up no resistance to Jake’s questing digits trailing up her inner thigh. Underneath the skimpy dress she had worn at Maria’s insistence, his hand inched ever upwards until his knuckles brushed against the damp fabric covering her slit, and she bit back a moan when his thumb found her clit. That normally shy little bundle of nerves contracted under that slight touch and seemed to swell in need. Jake caught her groan in his mouth, and Anastasia forgot any objections she might have had at the first swipe of his tongue inside her mouth.
If she thought he smelled good, then he tasted even better. His musk exploded on her tongue, and she opened to his gentle insistence. He swooped in and took possession of the kiss. One hand fisted in her hair while the other still showed homage to her little nubbin, and she gasped into the ever more passionate kiss, when one of his incredibly long fingers slid under the elastic of her thong. She was so wet that he slipped right into the tight clasp of her body, and her internal muscles contracted around that digit. He growled low in his throat, and she ground herself against his hand as his thumb settled on her clit.
He added another finger and then a third, thrusting in and out of her needy pussy in tune with his tongue’s thrusts inside her mouth, and Anastasia gave herself up to the ever more urgent demands of her body. Her hands fisted in his shirt, as the tingles started deep inside her core. Like a tidal wave of sensation they grew and tumbled forth, retreating a bit with every thrust, only to double in force with every faster pump of his fingers inside her channel.
The car lurched round a corner and then came to an abrupt stop. Cool air rushed into the heated interior, and Anastasia moaned her denial when Jake withdrew his fingers. In the blink of an eye she was freed out of her seat belt, and Jake broke the kiss to shift her body backwards. Carter’s strong hands gripped her thighs, and she caught a glimpse of his glowing eyes, before he buried his head between her thighs. Her underwear gave way with an audible rip, and then his hot breath on her swollen folds robbed her of any coherent thoughts.
“My turn to taste her, brother.” The growled words vibrated against her slit, seconds before his tongue delved into her quivering channel. Anastasia arched her back in desperate need to get closer to the hot mouth he used to such devastating effect on her clit. Jake chuckled in her ear, and she saw him lick his fingers, slick with her arousal. The sight was incredibly erotic, and she could taste herself in the kiss he gave her. Carter chose that moment to bite down on her clit, and she screamed. The barely functioning side of her brain marveled at that need-filled scream, muffled as it was by Jake’s kiss, and she clamped her thighs around Carter’s head, as she started to tumble over that elusive edge no man had ever managed to help her over.
Unlike the weak orgasms she had managed by her own hand, this one took her breath away. All sense of time and reason disappeared as her body convulsed under the hands of her lovers. Carter pushed her over that edge again, and again, and again, whilst Jake’s hands played with her breasts and nipples. He rolled each hard nub between his thumb and forefinger, pinching hard, and the sharp pain zinged straight to her clit.
Jake finally broke the kiss and nibbled his way down her neck as her body shook in delicious aftershocks.
“All ours,” the men grumbled in unison.

Glutton for punishment would be a good description for Doris… at least that’s what she hears on an almost daily basis when people find out that she has a brood of nine children, ranging from adult to toddler and lives happily in a far too small house, cluttered with children, pets, dust bunnies, and one very understanding and supportive husband. Domestic goddess she is not.
There is always something better to do after all, like working on the latest manuscript and trying not to scare the locals even more than usual by talking out loud to the voices in her head. Her characters tend to be pretty insistent to get their stories told, and you will find Doris burning the midnight oil on a regular basis. Only time to get any peace and quiet and besides, sleep is for wimps.
She likes to spin sensual, sassy, and sexy tales involving alpha heroes to die for, and heroines who give as good as they get. From contemporary to paranormal, BDSM to F/F, and Ménage, haunting love stories are guaranteed.

ALL THINGS GIRL: Social Media Personality Decoder
Happy Canada Day to my friends to the north!
Welcome to ALL THINGS GIRL, my little blog series where I dish about, well, all things, girl…or all things girl. I thought it’d be fun to talk about online personalities today. Did you know 67% of online adults use social networking sites? Many of them are also using social media to help them find love. So how does a girl weed though all of the BS and find a sincere and honest guy online. Do they really exist?
Have you wondered who’s the real guy behind the interesting profile and clever posts? Here’s Modern Dating: A Field Guide’s online decoder to help figure him out:
If he messages you and just says, “Hey”…. he’s messaging lots other people. Think of it as fly fishing.
If he messages you after midnight on a weekend… he’s either lonely or drunk or both. It’s best close your laptop.
If his profile or bio says “I love to have fun!”… he’s probably not as fun loving as he claims to be.
If he says he doesn’t know what to say about himself… he’s probably insecure and lacks creativity.
If he talks about sex in his profile or posts… he’s trolling for sex, not a relationship.
If he lists To Kill a Mockingbird as his favorite book… he probably hasn’t read a book since his summer reading assignment in HS.
If he has a dog or baby in his profile picture… give him extra points, he’s trying hard to impress.
The best advice I can offer is to go with your gut. If you have a weird feeling about a person, chances are he’s not who he says he is.
What do you think of the decoder? Have any others to add to the list?
xoxo
