This doesn’t have to do with being an author, but one of my biggest goals in life was to move to Europe, and I did it. Figured out the immigration and job situations, figured out the logistics of getting my stuff over the ocean, and dammit, I’m here now. It’s not my fault Scotland won’t be in Europe next year… It still counts.

It all depends on my mood and the tone of whatever I’m writing to figure out what I’ll listen to. A soundtrack I’ve liked a lot recently is Broadchurch, by Olafur Arnalds. Really, any of his stuff is brilliant.

I love stationary, but I don’t have too much of it. Kind of a bad side of everything being electronic now. My favourite section of the store (other than toys) was the “school supply” section when I was a kid. Honestly, there was a much higher probability of mom buying me something from there than toys.

So naturally, 80s/90s stationary has a special place in my heart (although I do love a good washi tape!). I crafted these miniatures for my American Girl dolls

13. Prized possession

Another tough question for me. I don’t want to count a living being as a possession, so I haven’t said my cat. But of the things I own, they all resonate with me in different ways. However, my American Girl dolls are really high on the list. Even though I don’t play with them the way I did as a kid (bouncing them along the floor and talking for them in high pitched voices), they do provide me with a break from “adulting”, and a creative outlet. Because of that, they’re highly prized, and I probably love them a little too much.

12. A shelved manuscript

The shelved manuscript that keeps trying to call me back was written in the first place because of this subway poster. Impastor. I had ample time to imagine what the show would be about, and decided to write it before watching a single episode. Turned out to be a murder mystery with a hidden identity on my part, while the TV show was, thankfully, very different. For some reason, I can’t work out the plot links, and I got involved in other projects. Someday, though.
