When writing couples, I like to use the Kiss Rule:

If they have to kiss for you to know they’re in love, you’re not writing a romance right.

A Note from the Author:

At this intermission, I’d like to thank those of you who have read up to this point. Your attention is keeping me alive.

Re-editing a book is kind of like the butterfly effect: if you change one little thing at the beginning, the change grows exponentially toward the end. Now at the midway point, I’m encountering significant shifts in the story.

When Awake was out, people left reviews. While not all of them were favourable, I appreciated them. One consistent thing people mentioned was being confused by the second half of the book. Though Awake went through rigorous edits from beta readers and a professional editor, readers didn’t always love it. Taking the not-so-five-star reviews to heart, I’m incorporating some gripes into actual changes.

Things I’ll be addressing:

how the museum came to be abandoned and not just dismantledmore about Blair and her role in the storythe museum in pop culture (it becomes something of an internet urban legend)a slowing-down of the narrative to ensure the plot is followable and the characters aren’t confusingand fleshing out the characters so they have actual weight.

As I re-read Awake, I left myself notes about things I wanted to change, and honest to God, one of them was “I hate this book”

I made this comment at the climax scene, which is a horrible time to be “done with” the book. The pacing was too quick, the characters got beat up too much, and there was no time to breathe.

So I’m taking more time with the characters, giving them space to have a good time every once in a while, and showing what the hell is going on. I hope this makes a more pleasant experience for us all.

Think of this as the end of season one.

Lost in the Museum will be back in 2-3 months, if I get my shit together. For progress updates, Instagram is the best place to get me.

Thanks again for reading.

Lost in the Museum - Chapter 12

Sophia shrieked and scrambled from under him.

“Whoa!” Josh protected himself as he sat back on his heels and watched her pull on her dress. “What’s going on?”

“I saw him,” she said, keeping her eye at the window. “Out there. Demetri is out there!”

Josh sprang to his feet and approached the door. Peering into the dark station, he shook his head. “I don’t see anyone.” After checking the nearest windows, he retreated to the conductor’s booth, pushed the button to open the subway’s doors, and approached the platform.

Sophia threw his pants at him, which he pulled on before exiting the car.

Rocking the snacks and no shoes playtime

.

So… Paper dolls. There’s a long history of them, but all I could really think when I was a kid was that I had paper dolls because real dolls cost too much. Or sometimes I liked a brand (like Pleasant Company or Hot Looks) and wanted to expand my collection. I wasn’t allowed to get many store bought doll clothes or accessories, so paper was a natural choice for variety. I don’t know. I liked what I had (I.e. it was better than nothing) but I never loved paper dolls.

.

What about you? Did you play with them at all as a kid, and if so, was it exciting as it’s own entity, or was it a stand-in?
