Giveaway & Interview with Urban Fantasy author Brynn Myers

Hello, readers!

I have had the pleasure to interview another fabulous author whom I just love. I hope you enjoy her interview and learn about her fascinating new series. After the interview, she is graciously offering five free copies of her book Entasy!

1. What’s one habit you have while writing? (i.e. listening to music, drinking coffee, rambling to yourself, writing in bed, on paper, etc.)

I have always had to have noise in the background. I usually turn the T.V. on in my office and find a show that won’t be too distracting.

2. What made you want to become a writer?

I had no idea I wanted to be a writer. I’ve always had stories in my head and often wondered how they would play out if they actually occurred, but that was it until I joined a book group on Shelfari. For fun, we took traits of our favorite characters and created our own unique personas. It was then that Kira, now Kylah, was born. I was drawn into creating stories from that moment on. I clearly fell down the rabbit hole without another thought and have been writing ever since.

3. Tell us about your debut-novel, Entasy. What kind of book is it and what’s it about?

Entasy is the prequel to the Prophecies of The Nine series. It was meant to be the backstory of Kylah’s life…her modern life and the life she had no idea existed. Entasy is a big teaser…it leaves a lot of questions hanging but I will be clearing up any and all confusion in January.

Kylah is the granddaughter of two Celtic goddesses but due to a tragedy Kylah’s memories were taken to protect her. She has no idea who she really is but soon she will find out…soon she will have to confront her past in order to save her future.

4. Did you model your characters after anyone in particular?

LOL! Well, I can honestly say that have added traits or characteristics of those close to me into my characters. I have some amazing people in my life and it seemed perfectly logical to make them a part of my artistic creation.

5. What inspired you to write Entasy?

When Kira and Dex, the original names of Kylah and Aerric, were born, they were both vampires. Dex sired Kira and things went from there, but as these characters evolved in my mind, I no longer saw them as vampires. So, when I combined the traits of the original characters with my love of Celtic mythology, boom…Kylah and Aerric were born and Obsydian and the rest of The Nine were added them to the mix to create the Prophecies series.

6. When is the sequel to Entasy coming out and can you tell us about it?

Redemption is the first book in the series. It takes place weeks after where Entasy left off. A lot happened to Kylah in Entasy and now she will have to figure out her place amongst her family and The Nine. Redemption will clear up the many questions that the prequel left hanging and of course create more. *smirk* Entasy was told in the first person perspective to let the reader try and get into the mind of those who will have a driving force in this series. The rest of the series (nine more books) will all be told from third person point of view.

Redemption by Brynn Myers

Kylah’s mind has been freed and her power unleashed. She is once again the loose cannon she was two hundred years ago. Everyone she loves is waiting for her to take her rightful place among The Nine. But if Kylah can’t control her guilt, her anger, and her conflicting desires, she may yet again ruin the lives of those she loves.

After spending two hundred years thinking his mate was dead, Aerric finally has the love of his life back in his arms and in his bed. But after realizing Kylah willingly made the choice to leave him all those years ago, his heaven quickly turned to hell. Truths are revealed and tempers flare, leaving their happily ever after on the verge of ashes.

Thank you so much for letting me interview you, Brynn! It was great to learn about your series. It’s such a unique idea, and I love hearing more about your books.

Week 19 of The Next Best Thing Blog Hop!

In this blog hop, authors answer ten pre-determined questions, which will reveal bits and pieces about their current release or upcoming book.  I’ve selected my current work in progress, Redemption which releases January 29,2013.

I’d like to thank the awesome Tish Thawer for inviting me to participate in this great hop!

Q: What is the working title of your book?

A: Redemption

Q: Where did the idea come from for the book?

A: This is the first book in the series and it seemed only fitting to have Kylah and Aerric’s story kick it off. Their backstory was touched on in the prequel, Entasy, but Redemption will give the readers all the answers they are looking for in regards to this intriguing couple.

Q: What genre does your book fall under?

A: Urban Fantasy

Q: Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?

A: Kylah- Amanda Righetti, Aerric- Raffaello Balzo, Obsydian- David Gandy

Q: What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?

A: The past is no longer a blur, the present has become a mystery, and the future remains unknown.

Q: Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?

A: My book will be published by Amber Leaf Publishing, a small press publishing company.

Q: How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?

A: Redemption will be released in January of 2013 and has taken roughly six months to pull all of the elements together.

Q: What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?

A: Oh my gosh, this is a tough one for me to answer. I have been told that it has elements of The Black Dagger Brotherhood because of the amount of characters and their connection to one another. But I’ve also been told that it’s kind of like The Fever Series with its Celtic elements. To be honest, *gets on knees and bows* the fact that someone even thought to put me in the same league with such amazing authors, humbled me. I strive to create a unique story and interesting characters, if that makes folks think of one of the greats then THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

Q: Who or What inspired you to write this book?

A: My deep and abiding love of Celtic mythology.

Q: What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?

A: *taps chin and grins* Sexy alpha males, two powerful Celtic goddesses, strong female leads, a malicious son of a bitch to give them all a reason to fight and mythology intertwined throughout.

I have a dragon phoenix, a goddesses who can telekinetically control fire, a thousand year old demon, two gods who can shift and control others, a powerful druid priestess, a gypsy dhamphire, a lycan, a demi-god and two twin dragons…the last of their kind.

A lot of characters yes, but each of them bring something unique and deadly to the table. Together they make up The Prophecies of The Nine!

Paranormal Reads Interview!!

This interview was originally posted on June 19, 2012 on http://paranormalreadsreviews.blogspot.com/2012/06/entasy-by-brynn-myers.html

I didn’t have the chance to post this here on my site because I was headed to RomCon but I cannot thank Marie and Paranormal Reads enough for taking the time to feature me on their blog!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I just want to take this time to say Thank You to Brynn Myers for doing this interview with us and for allowing me to review Entasy for the purpose of this blog post as part of the tour.
Marie:   Can you tell us a little about yourself?
Brynn: I am a stay at home mom with a part time job on the side. *smirk* Add that to my reading habit and my devotion to writing and I am working full time in my home office.
Marie:    What do you do when you are not writing?
Brynn: I love to read, relax with friends and spend time with my family.
Marie:  Did you always want to be a writer?
Brynn: No but I have a degree in theatre with a focus on costume history. So when I combine the drama and history with my love of all things mythological, it seems like a natural progression.
Marie:  What are your top 3 Favorite books and why?
Brynn: I love all things paranormal but if I had to pick my top 3, they would be.
-  Karen Marie Moning because she writes fantastic characters with poignant statements that stick with you. I love the Fever series but Dreamfever was my favorite. *raises had to be healed by JZB*
-   J.R. Ward because she creates a world so real, you find yourself looking for it in your everyday life. The moment I read Dark Lover, I was hooked…page 62-67 *heavy sigh*
- Sherrilyn Kenyon because I LOVE LOVE LOVE Greek mythology and mix that with sexy vamps and it’s a no brainer. This is a toss-up for me…can I call a tie for Fantasy Lover and Night Embrace?
Marie:  What was your inspiration to become a writer?
Brynn: I was part of a FANTASTIC reading group on Shelfari. One of the admins came up with the creative idea of doing a writing prompt where we would create two characters to write about. We picked our favorite paranormal creatures and wrote a backstory for each of them. She then posted a “scene” to set it up a scenario that we would all interact with. We created a story out of her pre-set situations. It was amazing! I had never really written anything before that. I was wicked nervous to post my parts but overjoyed when I read how the story unfolded. I have always had stories to tell and would talk about them but I never put pen to paper. This was the moment my female character was born, the jump off point where she grew and evolved into the Kylah you all know.
Marie:   Do you have a particular paranormal creature that you like best? And if so why?
Brynn: Hmm, so many delicious creatures to choose from but I do love a well written, sexy alpha vamp. There is just something so seductive about them and I think I never really got over my first vampire love. I can’t help but be drawn to them.
Marie:   How did you come up with the idea for your new series Prophecies of The Nine?
Brynn: Honestly, I was just working on telling Kylah and Aerric’s story. Kylah’s journey from her present, back to her past and then into her future but I kept having issues with tying in all of the people relative to Kylah. Each of them had a unique relationship with her and each of them had their own stories to tell.
I remember going over to visit my in-laws for the weekend and while I was working on a thought for Kylah, it just hit me. I became almost manic with the need to get all of the thoughts flooding my mind out on paper. I stepped out of the room and apologized to my loving and supportive family for being such a recluse and then locked myself in that room until every single thought was out of my head and written in my notebook. That day, The Nine were born. I created each of them, wrote blurbs of how their stories would go, including book titles and mates to go with each. I was exhausted at the end of the day but I knew that I had to get in touch with my editor and tell her that I was going to be making a few *grin* adjustments to the original plan. Entasy is meant to be the beginning of what will be one heck of a journey, one I look forward to sharing.
Marie:  Is there a particular character that drives you crazy at all?
Brynn: Dillon, he is a tough one to connect with sometimes. He feels things deeply but he is not one to express those feelings and as a writer, I need him to give it up. LOL! I call him my “crunchy M & M”, hard on the outside but soft on the inside.
Marie:  Which character do you connect with the most?
Brynn: Obsydian, from the moment he was created he has been with me every day. I love him and everything about him. The relationship between he and Kylah is a unique one but one I hope you will all love to read.
Marie:  Was coming up with the name for each of your books and the series itself hard? Or did it just come to you like an epiphany?
Brynn: *smirk* well it was all part of the manic moment from question seven. Each of the titles relates to something the two main characters will have to overcome or deal with in their particular book.
Marie:  Can you give us 3 words to describe your series?
Brynn: Celtic, Transformative, Enchanted. Each of these words relate directly to the characters.
Marie : Can you tell us what to look forward to in your upcoming books in the series?
Brynn: The first book in the series will be called Redemption, Kylah and Aerric’s story. Their past, their present and their future. Kylah feels as though she needs to atone for the choices she made and Aerric, well, he believed his mate was dead and he may have done things that now will prove to be a problem between them. They both have choices to make and things to overcome. The question is…will their love survive?
Marie:   Is there anything else you would like to share with us today?
Brynn: I made the choice to write Entasy in first person because it is from Kylah’s perspective. The moments of confusion and uncertainty are all part of how she feels. I needed it to be told from her point of view to create that vague perspective. Liam, Layne and Gavin, while unknown to her, were all crucial to Kylah’s past and present. The next stories however will all be told in third person. The omnipotent point of view will be necessary in order to tell The Nine’s story.
Thank you again Brynn for taking the time to do this interview with us! Be sure to get a copy of Entasy and to keep your eyes peeled for the rest of the books in the Prophecies of The Nine Series!
Entasy Blog Tour wrap-up!
Morrigan-Triple Goddess- the Maiden, the Mother, and the Crone, each of which symbolizes both a separate stage in the female life cycle and a phase of the moon. She often rules one of the realms of earth, underworld, and the heavens.  She is also the shape-shifting Celtic goddess of war, fate and death. She presides over rivers, lakes and fresh water, in addition to being the patroness of revenge, magic, prophecy and witches. Morrigan has the ability to shift into a raven or crow but she can also change her physical appearance when it suits her needs. She is deeply loyal to her family and her “sister” goddess Brighid.
Brighid-Goddess of Fire-She is one of the great mothers of the Celts. Brighid is highly regarded as a healing goddess and has many honoring her all over Ireland. She governs the forge’s fire and is considered the “Bright Goddess”. She is associated with the element of fire but also divination and prophecy. Brighid has the ability to wield and control fire at will.
Caolainn (Kay-lin) Brannagh- Her name means white pure raven. She is Morrigan’s beloved daughter. She had all of her mother’s abilities but preferred to embrace the “mother” aspect of her mother’s three sides but has often been underestimated when it came to her abilities.
Cearnach (Kar-nah) O’Cianain –His name means victorious champion of the faithful one and he is Brighid’s youngest son. He was the leader of The Nine until the night he was killed in a battle by the sluagh leader Liam. He is a fearsome warrior feared by all who have encountered the end of his sword. He has trained all of the members of The Nine, all except Obsydian who came to the Nine well trained and beyond deadly.
Olivia Batianni- She is Kylah’s best friend and neighbor. She is a spoiled Italian princess and she has no issues telling anyone that. Her brother Vincent is the underboss to one of the most feared families in New York. Both Olivia and Vincent command the respect of those around them but Vincent is a bit lax when it comes to Kylah because he has a crush on her. He often does special things to try and win her affection despite the subtle warnings from Dillon and Tynan. Olivia’s two favorite pastimes are shopping and flirting with Dillon.
Adaira- She works as a bartender at Keenan’s. She is supernatural but the origin of her power is unknown. Not even Dillon knows what she is but one thing for certain is no one wants to cross her. Humans are enthralled with her and will do as she wishes but even some in the supernatural fear her abilities to control free will.
Gavin- One of Liam’s loyal commanders. He is Liam’s right hand and handles all of the tasks Liam does not wish to handle personally. Gavin is an attractive man but the tattoo’s covering his body lends to a menacing, somewhat unnerving appearance.
