Goodbye 2020...Hello January 2021
I couldn't let this year end without featuring author Mary Ting. I had the privilege of meeting Mary at RT in Vegas a few years ago and then again here in Florida at the Indie Bookfest. She is a sweetheart and I can honestly say a wonderful woman to know. We talked about books, our families, and our backgrounds before we became authors over dinner. Mary is a genuine human being and I’m honored to call her a friend. However, all of this aside, she’s a wickedly talented author too. Her latest release, When the Wind Chimes has been featured in this month’s edition of First for Women Magazine, and her International Sensory Assassin Network Series has won numerous awards. Changing it up to welcome FALL...
~September Happenings~
As we creep closer to October and the month of all things spooky, magical, and supernatural, I decided to mix it up and share some MUST SEE movies and TV shows.
Above is a mix of movies and series I've seen, want to see and overall think are a MUST SEE! It’s not a complete list of course, but it's a start. LOL! I'm sure you've seen some or all of these, but where do they stand as far as a "LOVE and MUST SHARE" movie/show lineup? Inquiring minds want to know. Do you have some I need to add to my list?
Most of these have a supernatural or sci-fi element to them, but there are a few that I chose because they tap into the creep meter/intensity zone I like as well. I'm a huge fan of a mystery needing to be solved and most of these fall into that category.
Top picks I think you must see as we head into OctoberThe Haunting of Hill HouseThe WitcherThe Autopsy of Jane DoeCursedWarrior Nun
Now don't get me wrong, all of the movies/shows I’ve shared in the graphics are binge-worthy, but the top five will get you started as we head into October. I'm currently watching Season 2 of The Boys. I have mixed emotions about this show. How about you? I like "The Boys" and Starlight, but the rest of them not so much. This is a show you'll either love or hate. I teeter between the two every episode.
Santa Clarita Diet and Dead to Me are dark comedies, but they’re HILARIOUS! I dare you not to laugh at some or all of it. Upload is one to take a look at, too. It's a comedy with a hint of sci-fi because of the premise. It made me laugh and at the time that was what I was looking for. Wynonna Earp is a great show. I love the entire cast, but Doc and Wynonna are the best. Penny Dreadful is deliciously dark and since I'm a huge fan of Eva Green it was a no-brainer. Two shows you must check the trailers on to see if they are your cup of tea are Travelers and Sense8. Travelers has a killer concept (no spoilers) and has kept me intrigued and wanting more. I fell in love with Sense8 out of the gate. The characters and their backstories blended with their connection to one another create a superb storyline. Disclaimer: Sense8 is very adult in concept and is not a show to attempt to watch with kiddos around. LOL!
I don't know about you, but I can’t wait to watch Netflix new release of Ratched starring Sarah Paulson. It looks fantastic and disturbingly creepy! BRING ON OCTOBER!

Focus on Fantasy
Read Now It was never my intention to feature myself on Check Out a Book with Brynn, but when I chose to feature Falling Out of Focus during the month of July, I realized it was the logical choice. I spent hours, scratch that, days, going through the manuscript looking for quotes to share and then proceeded to make a dozen or so images to match the quotes. Add a stroll or ten through Pinterest, Goodreads, and Amazon and I was well on my way to a “30-day Falling Out of Focus Blitz”.I went through reviews, comments, images, you name it, to compile a month’s worth of goodies. In the process, I ran across a letter I had Novaleigh write. I’d forgotten about it. Completely missed adding it into the manuscript I sent to my publisher and so it never made it into the book. Lucky for us all though, I found it and decide now would be a great time to share it with everyone. There is only one catch though. It would give away the farm if I shared it with anyone who has yet to read Falling Out of Focus, so I’ve created a HIDDEN PAGE for those of you who are interested in reading Novi’s letter to Faeth. It’s a sweet letter and a great ending to an already great read. Falling Out of Focus is a journey and this letter is a reminder to us all that even when we’re lost, light and love can bring us back into focus.

July 2020 Book Feature
So, full disclosure, tomorrow is my birthday, but not just any birthday, it’s my 50th birthday…WHAAAA! I can’t believe it and thankfully I don’t feel it. My heart and mind are still youthful and in my humble opinion, fifty is the new thirty. I can’t wait to see what this year brings. I also can’t wait to see what this next decade brings to the table. I’m excited to welcome the next ten and will do so with renewed vigor even amidst the current chaos. I’ve already added things to my bucket list and set my new intentions. This decade is going to rock!With that said, I’ve been mulling over what I wanted to do for the momentous day and decided I wanted to talk about the book I wrote that I never intended to write. Why? Because it quieted my mind and allowed me to look towards the future, something I need to do now as well. Falling Out of Focus changed things for me. It showed me I could be less rigid in my approach to writing. It taught me that it doesn’t matter where you write, only THAT YOU WRITE. I wrote Falling while my daughter was at her volleyball practice. They had a room where parents could go and I brought my laptop to stay busy. Twice a week, for two hours a session, I wrote. I let out everything in my mind out and as usual, twisted it into a fantasy (real life is boring). :P
Unlike all the other books I’ve written, I didn’t have a plan or a roadmap. I simply wrote what was in my heart and mind and had faith the story would come together. When I shared it with my critique partner, she encouraged me to keep going––that it was a good story. The problem with writing, for me, is that I get in my own way and overthink things instead of letting the plot flow and the characters tell their story. When I wrote this book though, I had no idea how it was going to end, until it did. All at once, I saw the story for what it was––a journey of healing and growth. A book of letting go and moving on because Novaleigh and I had to. She is not me exactly, but I am elements of her for sure. I love all of my characters, but Novaleigh and I share something very special and that is this book. So to honor the last decade and my journey as an author, I’ve chosen to feature Falling Out of Focus. With the help of my amazing publisher, Amber Leaf Publishing, along with The Blurb Doctor , Stacey Rourke, we’ve updated the blurb and are ready to share it with the world.

June Sucks
June has certainly had its up and downs, but my “JUNE SUCKS” comment is not about the month at all, it’s about BOOKS! Supe books to be exact. Anything with fangs or claws and if you’re lucky––a bit of both. I love the Fantasy/Paranormal genre, and I will take it any way I can get it…books, TV shows, movies, you name it.For this month’s Check Out a Book with Brynn, I decided to feature the books I love with kickass characters, badass vamps, sexy shifters, and a mix of other creatures that make up the paranormal, fantasy genre. Here are just a few of my favorites, and I didn’t include your standard, “well duh”, vamp books because, while those are great, so are these!
If you haven’t heard of these authors or read these books, I highly recommend you follow the links and add them to your TBR/Listened to list. I can promise you that you won’t be disappointed. I added my own book, which I don’t normally do, but Captivated by Crimson is chocked full of dark, vampy angst, and since I’m featuring books you may have overlooked, it might just be one of them.

The Wild Unknown Tarot Deck and Guidebook (Official Keepsake Box Set)
. I couldn't wait for it to arrive. It was truly a magical moment when I opened the box. I set a few of my crystals on the opening pages and took a minute to digest the words
May you always be on the inner quest
. The quote resonated with me and inspired me. I bought a 30 x 40 canvas, painted it with matte chalk paint (Ink) and waited for round two of inspiration...how to place the cards. I tried laying them out so I'd see every creative image, but the layout felt too symmetrical. I wanted something random and free. I wanted it to be honest and destined, much like a tarot reading. What message did I want to look at every day? What message did I need to see? Then it hit me. I held the deck in my hand, face down, and flipped the cards, letting them land how they wanted. Some fell with the pattern showing which created a "background", while others fell with the artwork facing up. Either way the design was taking shape. When the last card was down, I stepped back and knew it was exactly what I wanted. I carefully glued each one and finished my project. It wasn't until I leaned it up against the wall that I read the guidebook to see what each card meant. They were spot on. Accurate in a haunting way that was both liberating and frightening. Sometimes messages from spirit come when you least expect them. They also show up in interesting ways––creative ways. I’m blessed to have found Kim Krans artwork in this tarot deck. I’m blessed for the messages her talent and the cards gave me. I created something special from them and today I’m sharing it with you. I’m speaking from experience here, create something that comes from your heart. It helps to gain perspective. During all the chaos and upheaval of these past few months, finding creativity can be tough but I encourage you to find one thing to spark your mind. Let your creativity flow and then watch where it takes you. You just might be surprised with the end result.
