Art Bead Scene Challenge: Milton Avery's Autumn

I thought I'd try my hand this month at the Art Bead Scene beading challenge. I was immediately drawn to the beautiful colors in Milton Avery's painting, Autumn from 1944.  I have to admit the colors were the inspiration behind the beads I chose.

I included art beads from Heather Millican of Swoon Dimples, some lampwork glass bicones from Two Turtles Designs. The wood beads are from Rich Kibbons out in Portland Oregon. The slider lamp work disc at the left, is from Outwest. The Pewter hook clasp was made by Green Girl Studios. And the etched River Rock pendant is from Riverstone Bead Co.

I really love that splash of bright red and orange by the black river rock pendant. Lots going on in this colorful necklace. It really was a joy to create!  I always love this beading challenge to get the juices flowing and it never ceases to spark tons of creativity. If you haven't tried submitting, I believe you should give it a shot! What have you got to lose?? NADA!!

Cicada

God I love this necklace. I love how the porcelain Round Rabbit components are perfect wings for this pretty little Cicada from Dwayne Thornton.  I tied linen cording to attach the wings to the body and then did a simple recycled glass tube and seed bead necklace so that the focus would be on that focal pendant.

Smile, Sunshine

My favorite piece from yesterday.

This pretty Resin pendant from Jade Scott dangles below a piece of brass cutwork that I have embellished with a stamped piece of aluminum sheet.  I kept the necklace simple, with some brass cable chain, and wire wrapped brass heart beads that I got this year at Bead Fest.  I love how the whole piece turned out. It's cool when a plan comes together.
The only thing, I would do differently, is maybe add the Smile tag to the opposite side of the focal. If I had to do it again.

Smile, sunshine is for sale at Etsy.

Hey There Punkin

This little pumpkin has been sitting on my desk for about a week and a half begging me to use him in some sort of necklace design. Sometimes I like to leave new beads and components out on my work table for several days because they frequently get considered for projects and I know eventuallythey'll will land themselves into the perfect piece. This happened today.
I dangled the little smiley guy below a pewter wheel that I have had for quite some time, from Lynn Davis.  The resin link at the left from Jade Scott, claims "Celebrate Today" and works great at the front of a necklace design. Pulled in more orange with this ceramic star connector from Diane Hawkey and added some lush black deerskin leather around the back of the necklace for comfort.
The Guy Melamed lamp work tab is another one that's been waiting for a perfect place. I like the black white and orange color palette of the bead with this piece.  Purple has a nice Halloween feeling to it and this lavender patinaed ball chain from Patina queen lends well to my asymmetrical design.

One can wear this with the pumpkin at the forefront of the necklace... but you can also slide it up and around, so that it sits at one side.

Inspiration

I caught a glimpse of this necklace on the website but also got to take a peek at it in person at Anthropologie in NYC last weekend. It's really a stunner. Thick waxed cotton cording, with brushed silver discs, folded over it into a scalloped design.  HECK, I thought. I can do that with tin.

and so.

I did.

New Pretties in the Shop

A very cool and unique beaded bracelet with Teal recycled glass beads, dotted glass shards, and a pewter hook clasp from Green Girl Studios. Added a riveted leather tag to cover the crimp.

An awesome new Crow pendant from Diane Hawkey, on a cotton cord, with 2 beaded strands, Hematite and metal tube beads with bits of color from Carnelian, jade and drop seed beads in the colors from the pendant. I used this really cool arrow toggle that I got from a brand new shop, Elements of Antiquity. Check them out!

I suppose I have hoarded this gorgeous blue porcelain Square bezel bead from Round Rabbit Extra. I used some beading wire to string some seed beads, and a pewter bee from Green Girl studios, and then on the backside, included a stamped aluminum insert that reads Be You. Added some gorgeous and soft deerskin leather in blue and gray tones, but embellished it with some pewter bead caps that have a flower feel to them. Finished it off with a pewter hook clasp from Green Girl Studios.

These are all listed in my Etsy Store.
