A Monthly Subscription: FOR BEADS!

You may have seen online, via Facebook or other social media the popular trend out there for subscription services, from Razors, to Snack foods, to Beauty products- delivered once a month for a monthly or annual fee. Right to your mailbox.

Have you ever secretly wished, like I have, that there was one for BEADS?  Well our wishes have been granted ladies!!

Introducing: Blueberry Cove Beads ! Based out of Nova Scotia Canada, self-confessed bead addict Isobel has created a monthly bead subscription service all on her own.

Pay just $22 a month,  your credit card charged on the 3rd of each month
and you'll receive a special curated box of beads. Each month there is a special theme and the beads will all coordinate within that theme. Each box will contain between 9 and 13 different items. Here are some images of the sort of thing to expect in each monthly box (please bear in mind all the boxes will be different, this is an average).

Here is this month's box:

Overall I was quite pleased with the offerings this month, and the theme is great! Right up my alley!

This sweet little postcard was included in the package explaining the 'Woodland' theme. And the coolest part, is, if you participate in the challenge, creating a piece of jewelry with at least 2 of the components you can win the next box for free!

I already have ideas in my head with quite a few of the components in this box!

Here is a close up shot of the components:

Sweet little brass leaves, a nice long strand of unikite rounds, wood tube beads, glass leaves, and a few large whole ceramic spacers.

I love these little leaf clasps, and tree charms....the lucite leaves are a really nice addition too! The copper acorns are heavy and really nice quality! That bird branch focal is to die for! The two glass focals, fox, and donut aren't really my cup of tea but I'm sure this style appeals to other beaders.

All in all it's a nice variation of different components and really you can't beat it for that price of $22!  Shipping everywhere in North America for an additional $5.  Not bad at all!

I'm totally sold on this concept, how bout you??  Sign up now for next month's box here. Or get your favorite pal signed up, there is a gift subscription option also!

I gotta go sign up for next month's box, see ya!

Michael's Beading Challenge and Blog Hop: My Reveal

When Heather asked me if I wanted to co-host another Michael's Beading challenge I jumped at the chance. Heather picks out the prettiest beads ever, and we always have a good time gleaming major inspiration, especially from this snowy photo above. The color palette for this challenge is full of beautiful muted mauve, brown, blue-green, and grey tones.

The idea was not only to use the beads from Michaels, shown above, plus two additional bead types to our designs; But to do our best in supporting LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES.  I can't wait to show you what I created, lets get to it shall we!?

Inspired by the idea of the Christmas song, "Over the river and through the woods, to Grandmother's house we go...", I created this delightfully Winter inspired Necklace.

Ingredients:
Ceramic house bead and Snowflake Link- Kylie ParryA wood Nugget- Rich KibbonsCeramic Button- Jean ChristenMatte pewter seed beads- FusionBeads
I simply strung the Ceramic rounds up around the back of the necklace, finishing it with a button and hoop enclosure.  I placed the house bead on the left, and the snowflake on the right. Wire wrapping all those glass beads took a little extra time but the fun movement and fringy effect was worth the trouble! To add a little extra interest, I included a frostier section below the snowflake connector using just the frosted glass, and some faceted Crystal barrels.

I had a nice number of beads leftover so I created a matching Bracelet using one of Kylie Parry's Pine Cone/ branch coin beads, more of Rich's wood branch beads, and a section of the wire wrapped glass beads. The Hammered textured toggle is from Tierra Cast.

And finally some matching earrings!

The earring wires are from Vintaj Brass Co.

What a fun way to stay inspired this wintery season. I am really excited to see what Heather and all of the other participants created with these lovely Bead Gallery beads from Michael's

Be sure to head on over to the Humblebeads Blog to see what the other players created!

On the bench: coated hematite beads

I have a current obsession with these metallic hematite beads. I just can't stop using them lately! The colors are wonderful and they photograph really well in the right natural light. Here are some of the finished pieces I've been making....

Square shaped heishi! Love!
These rectangular tube beads are my favorite!

This foxy bracelet was a favorite. I have had many requests for more of these, so in the next few days, I will be making about 3 more, and will announce on Facebook when they'll be listed. It's first come first served so be on the look out for my announcement! The beads on this, the focal beads, will vary slightly in each piece. As will the leather. no two exactly alike!

Paper

I have always had a bit of an obsession with paper. I think I was first turned on to the whole sticker and stationary phenomena back when I was a youngster - My beautiful and crafty Aunt Carolyn would always pick me up and take me shopping, whether it be to the mall where they had The Rainbow shop (chock full of Hello Kitty and other goodies) or to the Ithaca Commons where there was the shop, Shalimar. A sweet store filled with stickers and stationary. We could literally browse all day.

We were also letter writers and exchanged letters sometimes as often as once a month. When I went off to college, it was less, but it was always such a treat to get a letter from her and return one to her.
I'm not sure what it was about paper that had me so smitten. I could always find cute stickers (which I still use to dress up my gift boxes by the way) and beautiful papers with printed designs- anything with a graphic on it has my heart.

I recently discovered this magazine called Flow: Magazine for Paper Lovers- picked up a copy at Barnes and Noble this week. It's a spendy little bugger though, at $22.50 but I think it's worth every penny. Lots of really wonderful articles, not only about crafting, and artists, but also tips on how to live your life more simply, and how to appreciate yourself, feel connected, live mindfully and spoil yourself.  After I got home and flipped through, I ended up seeing an ad for this book "Flow: Book for Paper Lovers"  put out by the same publisher.
Literally 300 pages of paper goodies such as post cards, note cards, stationary, stickers, paper garland, gift wrap, paper dolls, etc. etc. etc. I'm in HEAVEN!

Isn't this paper garland adorable? It also came with the Book!

Everything is so cute, I can't even stand it.I wish I could get my hands on Volume 1 but they are sold out.The only thing about this is, you have to order it through the Netherlands. My bankput a hold on my account because they thought it was fraudulent. :) Buthey, I'm glad they caught it. The shipping also was very fast!!
I bought a back issue of the magazine, and the book- and it came to about $44.
Well worth it, I think!

Guest Post: Designer Mary DeTray

I recently became aware of a new designer out there, her name is Mary DeTray of Brass Rabbit Studio... and I haven't seen someone work eclectic bohemian inspired components this well in quite a while. I was truly smitten the first time I spotted her designs on Facebook.

And so, I thought it would be a great opportunity to reach out to her to make a new friend, and to see if she wanted to do a little guest post for the blog. I sent her a little goody bag full of some items from my jewelry accord store.....

Some Deerskin leather, in dark and light brown,
a linen cord palette, Forest Floor
and some Batik ribbon.

And just for grins, I sent her a tin link, with a butterfly on it- thinking she would enjoy the extra gift but surprised me and used it in her final design!

Here is what she had to say....

"I've been a highly creative person ever since I can remember. I've also been making jewelry since i was a child, it obviously was more macaroni style back then but jewelry nonetheless. I didn't really start getting serious about it until about a year ago, when I went through quite a rough patch in my life- that's a completely different story entirely, but when I was recovering from that period of my life is when I found beading! I stopped by my local Shipwreck Beads one day after work and ended up leaving with half the store! After that I quickly started accumulating way too much jewelry to keep for myself and began making it for friends and family. Everyone I gifted my jewelry to urged me to try to get serious about selling it and so Brass Rabbit Studio was opened on November 10th, a little less than a month ago! It has been amazing ever since, I get so happy and excited with each and every sale... that someone else finds a piece of my jewelry they want to make their own. It just feels like a dream come true!"

"I've always loved incorporating fiber into my pieces. I feel like it gives them a warm, and charming quality you can't get using chain and metal findings alone.  All of the cord, leather and ribbon I used in these pieces were from Lorelei Eurto's JewelryAccord shop on Etsy. I love how they all came together. The sweet little toggle was made by her as well and just fits this piece so perfectly! The bee bead and connector are from Slate Studios Supply on Etsy.

I love how she wrapped this loop/link with the fabric batik ribbon- What a gorgeous look and extra softness....and she secured it with some of the linen cording. Really nice huh!?

They are both So pretty! This sweet wrap bracelet design is just perfect with the braided ribbon, some fringe chain and beads. Love that leaf component- it's a perfect pairing with that Bee bead.

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I did!   These pieces will be available for sale soon in Mary's Etsy store!
ALSO!- Enjoy 20% off in her shop today and tomorrow, using coupon code FROMLORELEI
