Black Gold
Two history books I highly recommend by the author Daniel Yergin, are The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil, Money, and Power, and The Quest: Energy, Security, and the Remaking of the Modern World. The books were written some twenty years apart, but should be read as a series. Yergin has certainly done his homework, as every aspect of the oil industry is revealed, from its many colourful characters

Philosophy 101
What I found to be a really good read of fiction is Sophie's World, by Jostein Gaarder. It was written in 1991 and translated from its original Norwegian. The story combines a mystery with lessons on philosophy. The protagonists are a teenage girl and her middle-aged male mentor, who together endeavour to solve a mystery applying the lessons learned from the masters of philosophy. The story

Blogging, and The Illusion of Being Open
Blogging, or being a blogger is a part of being a modern-day writer. There is nothing wrong with what a writer has to say, but there is something wrong when you publish a post and people misunderstand what you are trying to convey.
As writers, we love to think we're great communicators, unfortunately this isn't the case- at least until we rethink things through. Most of my close friends can

The Reinvention of A Writer
Living a Life of Writing just took on a whole new meaning- it takes courage to build, and even more courage to seek a major improvement on something that works well. The past two years have been a wild ride for me as well- both as a writer and as a person. A writing mentor of mine once said, at some point if you want to publish a better book you're going to have to reinvent yourself, and you'll

Straight Talk About Writing From A Not So Straight Writer
I've been told I'm not the greatest at straight talking. I'm a rather cryptic person when it comes to my personal Facebook page, because if you don't know what's going on I'm really not in the mood to explain it to you. Except this concept doesn't work all that well when it comes to communication, everyone has expectations when it comes to communication. Everyone needs the 'straight talk.'

You Mean I Have To Publish to Earn Money?
A lot of writers are looking for ways to make money publishing their work. There are ups and downs in all writing, but with both time and focus you will find that writing online on any site and doing it well will help you with a writing goal, such as publishing a book. All it takes is a bit of practice, a commitment to improve both as a writer and in your relationships with your readers and team

Anarchists Unite!
The city of Buffalo is rarely the backdrop for any book, fiction and non-fiction alike, yet in John Smolens' The Anarchist, it indeed becomes center-stage in this historical-fiction depiction of what could be described as America's first 9/11 period.
The turn of the 20th century is described as an era in which a growing friction emerged between the well-off and the poor. This enables communists,

Roses are Red
An exceptional read within the historical-fiction genre is Conn Iggulden's Wars of the Roses - Trinity. The book is actually part of a series, but as I discovered, can certainly be read without further reference.
The author takes the reader from one battle to another through the thoughts and dialogue of the key players belonging to the nobility of mid-15th century England. While the battles'
