HER HONOR’S GUARD Promo Blast!

by Johnny Ray
Do first loves ever really die? While reunions can take many forms, there is always one question that has to be answered sooner or later—what happened?
Vance had always been extremely proud of Noella, and just because his life had been ruined, he saw no reason why she had to have the same faith. When his dad died, leaving him and his mother penniless, he dropped out of law school and ended his relationship with Noella, but in doing so, he stopped a scandal that could have ruined her family. These secrets he would never let her know. Ironically, years later, he would have never guessed she would be instrumental in ruining his career with the Tampa police force.
After Noella finished law school and started pursuing her goal of working up the ranks in judgeships, she never considered inviting another guy into her life. As such, when someone attempts to threaten her into vacating her seat on the bench, and by force if necessary, she knows of no one else she really trust as much as Vance, who now has a successful bodyguard and private detective business.
She knows that Vance might hate her for her part in having him dismissed from the police force, but what he will never know is that she actually saved him from going to prison. Additionally, she now thinks he was framed, and perhaps by the same people who are threatening her. She had to talk him into taking her on as a client . . . but would he agree to her request?
As the number of attacks on her life increases, Vance soon has no choice but to offer her his protection, and in spite of everything, when they see each other again their old attraction for each other returns. She wants the truth. He wants the truth. However, making the ultimate sacrifice is not always easy to understand, whether given or received. Ultimately . . . could they now trust each other with these secrets? While their lives depend on discovering the truth to their past, these truths are locked in deep secrets that could also destroy them.

About the Author
Melissa Lummis considers herself a truth seeker, a peaceful warrior, a paranormal and fantasy writer, an avid reader, a thru-hiker GA->ME ’98, a wife, a mother, and a free thinker. She believes the universe conspires to help an adventurer, and that if we live our lives as if it is a daring adventure (and it is!), then everything we need will find its way to us.
The author lives in rural Virginia with her husband, two children, an Alaskan Malamute and a myriad of forest creatures. The nature of her mind dictates that she write to stay sane. Otherwise, her fertile imagination takes off on tangents of its own accord, creating scenarios and worlds that confuse the space-time continuum.
Namaste, dear friends.
LITERARY ADDICTS Weekly Wednesday Meme: Which Character Would Be Your Best Friend?
Books have always been my best friends. I prefer the worlds and people within the covers of books over most flesh and blood beings, with certain spectacular exceptions.
So it isn’t odd that I have also found some of my best friends in characters of those books.
The first of my best book friends would be Laura Ingalls Wilder. I found her so utterly relatable and steadfast, someone upon whom a person could depend. . .if you want to learn more about her, her life and her times, I highly recommend The Wilder Life by Wendy McClure. I reviewed it on this site a few years ago, and I stand by my feelings. Awesome book about an amazing person.
And then was Katie John of the books by the same name, by Mary Calhoun. Some of what I read in her books still affect my life today, and Katie John was a friend you’d want to have. She was fun, daring, smart and loyal. And she lived in this really cool house.
Today, when I think of books I’ve read most recently, I think I would like to have Hope Sheffield of Olivia Hardin’s All for Hope as my best book friend. She’s someone you want on your side: she takes care of her own, she’s nurturing, and she’s forgiving, all qualities I need in a friend.
Who would be your best book friend? Be sure to hop around to all the other participating blogs and see their answers!

A NOVELETTE- MAUCs Series One: Magical and undead creatures can get into plenty of sticky situations. Lynlee Lincoln loves her job as a neutralizer, but she needs a break from the supernatural chaos after an ultra-busy Halloween night. Coming home, she’s ready to collapse into her bed and forget the day… until she discovers two children scavenging through her refrigerator. One look at the pair and she feels a tug on her heartstrings, then she learns their father is the man she spent years trying to forget. When Beck pleads with her to help save his daughter, Lynlee gets thrust into a heap of trouble.

Olivia Hardin realized early on how strange she was to have complete movie-like character dreams as a child. Eventually she began putting those vivid dreams to paper and was rarely without her spiral notebooks full of those mental ramblings. Her forgotten vision of becoming an author was realized when she connected with a group of amazingly talented and fabulous writers who gave her lots of direction and encouragement. With a little extra push from family and friends, she hunkered down to get lost in the words. She’s also an insatiable crafter who only completes about 1 out of 5 projects, a jogger who hates to run, and is sometimes accused of being artistic, though she’s generally too much of a perfectionist to appreciate her own work. A native Texas girl, Olivia lives in the beautiful Lone Star state with her husband and their puppy Bonnie.

LITERARY ADDICTS Weekly Wednesday Meme: What is your favorite comfort book?
It’s been one of those days. Or weeks. Or months. . .well, you get the picture.
All you want at this point is a warm, fluffy blanket, a soft pillow, a hot cup of tea (maybe laced with something stronger!) and your favorite comfort book.
A comfort book is one you’ve read before, possible often. Most likely you read it the first time in your childhood, or perhaps your teens. Or maybe in a time of great angst. But whatever the origin of your discovery, this book has become the place you go when you need a reliable, heart-healing read.
My feeling is that a comfort book has to have a happy ending–one that you can trust. So you probably don’t want Nicholas Sparks.
One of my favorite comfort books is one I share with my daughter Cate. It’s Anne of Green Gables–well, actually, any of the Anne books. My all-time favorite is the last one, Rilla of Ingleside. But that one has some angst, even though it also has a fabulous happy ending. (Don’t get me started on Dog Friday, I WILL cry!) These are all by the incomparable L.M. Montgomery, of course.
I also go back to my old favorite Ceila Garth by Gwen Bristow. It’s a historical romance of the highest degree, with so much intrigue, information and excitement–plus a love story to make you swoon–I have to read it at least once a year.
The final one, I think, would have to be Calico Captive by Elizabeth George Speare. The story (based on reality) of the young girl who is kidnapped to Canada by Native Americans is riveting, and the description of the dresses alone is worth your time.
Come to think about it, I could use a little comfort read. I think I’ll dig up one of my favorites, grab a blanket and snuggle down for a much-need read.
Catch you next week.

LITERARY ADDICTS Weekly Wednesday Meme: Which Character Would YOU Be?
Our meme for this week is: Which fictional book character would you like to be?
You can’t just jump namby-pamby into this. You really must stop and consider. For instance, if I were to choose to be Scarlett O’Hara, I’d have to live through the Civil War. . .you remember, when she had to flee burning Atlanta and then work herself half to death to support her starving family on Tara? After seeing some of the most horrific sights of war? No, thanks. I guess I could be Scarlett before the war, but she wasn’t a very nice person then.
Come to think of it, she wasn’t a very nice person afterward, either. Okay, scratch Scarlett.
I’m going to be realistic and say my choice has to be someone in the modern era. You know, where indoor plumbing is already an accepted fact of life in Western civilization.
I wouldn’t mind being Gwen Sparks from the Stephanie Nelson series of that name, as long as that meant I got to hang around with Dorian. Or I could definitely take being Selene in the Easy Bake Coven series by Liz Schulte. Only because I could keep an on Cheney. And I would easily step into the shoes of Jill from Olivia Hardin’s Bend-Bite-Shift books. Being Doc’s one true love? Ooooh la la!
Or I guess I would happily be Stephanie Plum. After all, she gets to be with both Joe Morelli and Ranger, she lives in Jersey, which I totally get, and she has a mom who cooks for her. Plus Rex, her hampster.
But only until they start shooting at her or blowing up cars. Then all bets are off.
