Literary Addicts Stalker Day!

literaryaddictsmeme

Welcome to Stalker Day Wednesday, the kick off for LITERARY ADDICTS weekly meme!

So which authors do *I* stalk? Hmmm. . .hard to narrow it down. . .

Traditionally pubbed authors first. And the top of that list has to be Diana Gabaldon, because I actually did stalk her way back in the early days of the internet, when she had her email still open to the public. She was (and still is!) sweet and gracious to answer questions and return emails. I stalk her now via Facebook and Twitter. . .mostly to find out when the next book might be coming out.

Next would be Nora Roberts/JD Robb, because again, I’m always waiting on the next book.

Tied for third place would have to be Julia Spencer-Fleming and Mary Balogh .

On to the wonderful world of indie authors. This is in no particular order, but my favorites are Olivia Hardin, Colleen Hoover, Liz Schulte, Jesi Lea Ryan, Stephanie Nelson and C.G. Powell.  Shifty Business, Hopeless, Dark Corners, Arcadia’s Gift, Coveted  and Immortal Voyage. . .ahhhh. . .

I could stalk all day, but sadly, I have some writing to do. . .so until the next releases, I’m slipping back into my shadowy stalking corner!

Tasmyn Vaughn didn’t expect much when her dad’s job moved them to a small town in Florida; it was just another new school. But there is more to King than meets the eye, and soon Tasmyn’s ability to hear others’ thoughts is the least of her worries. Entangled in a web of first love, quirky and secretive townsfolk, magic and blood rituals, she discovers the town’s secrets aren’t just bizarre, they’re deadly.

Most people who experience death don’t live to tell about it.

When sixteen year old Arcadia “Cady” Day wakes in a hospital after experiencing what can only be called a psychic episode, she finds her family in tatters. With her twin sister gone, her dad moved out, her mom’s spiraling depression and her sister’s boyfriend, Cane, barely able to look at her, the only bright spot in her life is Bryan Sullivan, the new guy in school. When Bryan’s around, Cady can almost pretend she’s a regular girl, living a regular life; when he’s not, she’s wracked with wild, inexplicable mood swings. As her home life crumbles and her emotional control slips away, Cady begins to suspect that her first psychic episode was just the beginning…

The bond between sisters is stretched to the limit as they are thrown into the world of the Fae. As they learn their places in this new world, secrets and dangers from the past emerge setting them on a dangerous path; one that would see them face off not as sisters, but enemies. Add in a wicked love triangle and you have the start of a new twist on classic Irish lore.

THE TALE OF LUCIA GRANDI Review and Giveaway

The Tale of Lucia Grandi The Tale of Lucia Grandi

When an old woman is asked to tell the story of her life, she tells an intense and poignant tale about growing up in and surviving a warring suburban family during the 1950s and ’60s.

Written as a memoir, each chapter describes a particular incident in Lucia’s life which shows the constant struggle between her parents and the perverse effect it has on her and her family. From her complicated and unwanted birth, to her witnessing a suicide at age 3, to her stint as a runaway at age 14, the story progresses to the final crisis where as a young woman she is turned out of her house and banished from her family forever.

Told in breathtakingly beautiful prose, this is a powerful and timeless story of a dying woman’s courageous attempt to come to terms with her past and the troubled family that dominated it.

Our review:  I absolutely love epic stories, and THE TALE OF LUCIA GRANDI definitely fell into this category. At every turn, I was rooting for her to prevail against the incredible odds that confronted this poor girl’s life. The writing was beautiful, a bonanza of sights, sounds and tastes; there was a nice rhythm and flow to the story. The memoir format worked perfectly. You’ll never regret immersing yourself in Lucia’s world. It is a tale that will stay with you for a long time.

About Susan Speranza

Susan SperanzaONCE UPON A TIME…

…I was born in New York City and grew up on Long Island where I had an interesting and creative childhood. Once in college, I studied Psychology and Philosophy, but since “thinking” didn’t translate into earning money or job security, I worked at a variety of different and unrelated jobs both in New York City and on Long Island.

In order to keep me sane through all the craziness of life, I spent my spare time writing. Anything and everything. The culmination of this was a fantasy – The City of Light – which has recently been reissued as an ebook.

I took up the hobby of dog showing and breeding and produced many Pekingese Champions. You can see them over at our Castlerigg Pekingese website.

Somewhere in the middle of my life so far, after a great personal upheaval, I went back to school, became a High School Librarian. I managed to fulfill my childhood dream of living in the country when I finally escaped suburbia and moved to Vermont where I now happily live with my beautiful Pekes.

But I’ve never stopped writing.

My biography (as with my life, I hope) is to be continued…

About the author:

Jessica Gibson is a recovering bookaholic, she’s down from four books a week to a more reasonable one. It was that love of words and creativity that made her dream about writing her first book. That dream was hidden for years, always put on the back burner, filed away in the “someday” section, until her husband Matt gave her the kick in the pants she needed to actually get off her butt and write.
Jessica and Matt live in Southern California and have a serious addiction to reality tv shows like Pawn Stars and American Restoration. They have one son and hope to add to the family in the near future.
Aside from writing, she runs an online event planning business called the Release Day Diva. In addition to novels, Jessica writes and maintains the blog Book on the Bright Side. Keep up with Jessica and her latest releases and events on her blog.

CLOSURE Excerpt and Giveaway!

Closure Closure

There’s always the one…

He’s one person throughout life you think about every so often, the one who leaves his unique indelible mark on you, the person with whom you need closure.

For Margaret Collins that person was Mike Taylor. After he broke her heart seventeen years ago, she left everything she knew and reinvented herself. With a new home, a new look and a new name, Riley Williams is now an up and coming journalist given the assignment to interview a Mike Taylor. She never suspected he would be her Mike Taylor. With Mike having no hint of Riley’s true identity, she must decide if she will make him pay for sins he doesn’t remember committing, or if she can wipe away the past and be with the one man who she has always wanted?

Enjoy this intriguing excerpt. . .

There’s always that one guy. Riley watched her date and shook her head.

“Stay there, I’ll get the door.” Mike got out of the car.

The cellophane on the roses Mike gave her when he arrived at her apartment crinkled in complaint as she moved them to the back seat, but not before she breathed in one more time. The floral perfume combined with his cologne made her dizzy, or maybe it was the ride down Pacific Coat Highway to Malibu.

Yes, there was always that one guy, the one that every other man is measured against. Up until yesterday she hadn’t thought about Mike in years, but he was always there. His imprint was all over her, a fingerprint unique to only her. How many men had to live up to memories they couldn’t compete with?

Part of her wished she possessed the strength to turn him down. Part of her wished he hadn’t shown, or cancelled. Part of her wanted this date to reclaim what she lost so long ago she forgot she missed it.

The moment she got in the car with him, she became the seventeen-year-old

Margaret again. Only her former self never got this far. At the time she convinced herself it was better, the date would have been terrible, he was too goal oriented, and he only wanted what he perceived as an easy lay.

He took long strides around the car, opened the door on her side and held out his hand.

“Riley.”

Now she was Riley. Margaret was gone. Riley had hidden her away with a name change taken from her parents’ middle names, a bottle of hair dye, and a move to a new state.

She paused, studying him. Tonight he wore a pair of black pants and matching blazer and dark blue button down. As always, he fit his situation perfectly. She acquiesced and put her hand in his.
