Genre: Contemporary Romance

Age Group: New Adult/Adult

Cover designed by: Damon Za

Numbers are everywhere—they play such a vital role in our everyday lives. But what would happen if we measured love with equations just as we do our morning cup of coffee? My nana had many recipes in her cupboards, but it was her calculations for love that she insisted I live my life by; and I’ve followed her rules all these years.

One Animal

One Moment

One Critical Impact

That’s all it took for the numbers to start flying in a jumbled mess through my brain as I stared into the violet eyes that would forever make me question my choices. In a split second, the possibilities and reality of true love are revealed and I’m questioning all I’ve ever known.

A Tree

White Fences

Stolen Moments

I can’t ignore the storm brewing around—and within—me. Everything I am is confronted by these new numbers, and all they represent. My past, present and future will all be determined by the gambles I make right here, right now. Again, it’s all about the numbers.

And what I’m learning is, one plus one doesn’t always equal two and sometimes three times isn’t always the charm.

ACID KING Promotion and Giveaway!

By Maggie Abbott

Four long-estranged friends from London’s turbulent Sixties scene of sex, drugs and rock and roll are thrown together after seventeen years when one of them accidentally discovers the secret identity of their betrayer; a man they knew only as The Acid King, a charismatic figure who orchestrated a weekend of alluring drugs ending with a bust, jail time and death.

What the friends don’t know is that a New York FBI Agent, another old enemy of the Acid King, has been on a long frustrating manhunt of his own, driven by the same rage for revenge. Until, by coincidence, he discovers the mystery man’s hidden Los Angeles location and tracks him to his lair. Resulting in a dangerous confrontation that puts lives, both guilty and innocent, on the line.
The Acid King is the thinly veiled story of the famous Redlands drug bust of 1967; an event that put Mick Jagger and Keith Richards behind bars and nearly destroyed the world’s most famous rock band. All orchestrated by an unidentified man who set them up and then disappeared.

By a strange twist of fate the Author (former film agent for Mick Jagger) met the Acid King in Los Angeles and became involved with him for several years, never knowing who he really was, until her friend Marianne Faithfull (former lover of Jagger) surprisingly identified him.

About Maggie:

The Acid King tells the fictionalized story of what she imagined could have happened afterwards.

Maggie Abbott started writing novels when she moved to Palm Springs after a long, successful show business career in Los Angeles, London, Rome, and New York.

A casual job as a secretary at the William Morris Agency in Rome introduced her to the exciting scene of Cleopatra, Fellini’s and The Pink Panther, with the city’s influx of big stars calling by the office every day, and triggered her lifelong love affair with movies.

Over the years, Maggie has enjoyed being in the most interesting places at the best of their times, while working as the movie agent for some exciting stars: Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Charlotte Rampling, Jacqueline Bisset, Martin Sheen, Raquel Welch, Christopher Plummer, Robert Redford, Mia Farrow, Peter Sellers, Richard Chamberlain, Peter O’Toole, Britt Ekland, Ken Russell, John Boorman, and many more.

Somewhere in between, Maggie was the production assistant on three Broadway plays, and a producer and studio executive at Columbia Pictures where she developed and got production credits on two movies.

KEEPER OF THE REIGN Promotion and Giveaway!

Keeper of the Reign

Books written in blood. Most are lost, their Keepers with them. A curse that befell a people. A Kingdom with no King. Life couldn’t get more harrowing for the Elfies, a blend of Elves and Fairies. Or for sixteen-year-old Jules Blaze. Or could it?

For Jules, the heir of a Keeper, no less, suspects his family hides a forgotten secret. It was bad enough that his people, the Elfies of Reign, triggered a curse which reduced the entire inhabitants to a mere inch centuries ago. All because of one Keeper who failed his purpose. Even the King’s Ancient Books, did not help ward off that anathema.

Now, Gehzurolle, the evil lord, and his armies of Scorpents, seem bent on destroying Jules and his family. Why? Gehzurolle’s agents hunt for Jules as he journeys into enemy land to find the truth. Truth that could save him and his family, and possibly even reverse the age-long curse. Provided Jules doesn’t get himself killed first.

BARELY ALIVE Interview and Giveaway!

Barely Alive (book #1)

In twelve weeks, seventeen-year-old Paul Ledger will be dead. At least he hopes so.

Paul is trapped in the worst cult the United States has ever seen. Infected with a zombie virus, symptoms culminate in a dead body but thriving mind over a course of twelve weeks. If he doesn’t earn the final death he longs for, he’ll be chained in a basement facility, moaning for human flesh for eternity.

Sent out to kidnap girls for food, toys, or whatever the boss wants, Paul nabs Heather McCain. He’s not a fan of humans as a general rule, but even his graying skin and insatiable hunger for her flesh don’t stop her from reaching out to him. Give him the second chance he doesn’t know he needs.

Overcome by his cravings, Paul bites her delectable skin. Amazingly, she doesn’t develop the zombie-like side effects. When the boss discovers Heather’s immunity, he gives Paul an ultimatum – deliver up Heather and her family to continue the research or watch as Paul’s brother suffers the zombie fate.

Paul has a chance to endure his short zombie existence knowing his brother is safe. But he’ll have to sacrifice Heather to do it.

Buy on Amazon | B&N

Falling Apart (book #2)

Days slip through Paul’s graying fingers. Humanity faces the end. His brother has the virus and is dying, too.

Paul’s hopes ride on Heather’s genetic code. Her immunity leaves her unchanged and untouchable. What would she see in the zombie he was becoming anyway?

Dominic’s army of infected grows, capturing the south and leaving little alive in its wake.

While Paul and his friends work on the vaccine, protecting the north becomes protecting the world. Heather is taken hostage and Paul races toward Dominic to save his heart.

With his time “alive” shortened, Paul must do more than protect the uninfected. He has to get his brother and Heather back to Sandpoint before the zombies find them. Paul needs to survive the upcoming war before he finds himself defecting to the other side and leaving Heather to Dominic’s mercy.

He has three days to get the cure or he might as well find a fire to call home.

*This has mature themes and language. Not for young or pre-teens.*

Buy on Amazon | B&N

Mostly Dead (book #3)

Time is running out and Paul’s original wish for death looms.

As his skin grays and hunger becomes uncontrollable, the world burns.

Heather and Paul have fallen for each other, but with life and death barricading them apart, and the potential cure disappearing into time, they have no hope.

Paul’s hunger is all-consuming. He has to walk into the flames, join Dominic, or eat everyone he loves.

Can he save anyone, if not himself?

Buy on Amazon | B&N

Viral Intent (Prequel short)

Dominic has no remorse, no guilt, and his righteous justification swells as his research goes unchecked. There’s someone Dominic wants to save, and he may have the cure. But now he needs test subjects.

He creates a virus that brings about the zombie apocalypse. There’s no excuse for how he treats Paul and humanity itself, but understanding the man might shed light on the evolution of the virus that brings Paul and Heather together.

Discover the how and why behind Dominic’s evil actions. Are you brave enough to see how a Zombie Master is born?

Bonnie stopped by to give us a little glimpse into her books and writing life!

Welcome, Bonnie!

Tell us about your series BARELY ALIVE.

Oh, man. Barely Alive is my “what if” series. I couldn’t help but think there had to be more to zombies than eating brains and death. Where was the romance? Barring necrophilia (ew!) how could zombies be potentially sexy and hopeful while they craved eating the dead? Well, Paul visited me in my dreams and there you have it! I wish sometimes I was Heather.

The series is about a young man infected with a virus that gives super-human strength for a period of time and then the body dies while the mind continues on. He craves meat, too. But Heather is immune. And Paul wants longer with her than his limited time period. I love the bad guy, Dominic – who is a real creep – and Paul’s brother, James. Overall, this series is a favorite project of mine. I hope you like them, too! I love them so much!

What inspired you to write about zombies?

Vampires have been done. Werewolves have been done. Ghosts, witches, etc. seemed to all have been done and romanticized. I wanted a challenge and what’s more challenging than a dead body?

What makes your zombie mythology different from others?

Mine is scientifically possible – much like the zombies in I am Legend starring Will Smith. There is a virology capability inside my story that people need to be aware of. All too often, the public is kept in the dark about experiments gone bad – well, in Barely Alive, that’s pretty much exactly what happens.  Fortunately, there may just be a way out of the pandemic sweeping across the world.

How does your background in science inform your fiction?

I have a strong background in genetics, virology, microbiology, as well as biophysiology. Fortunately, I altered things I’ve learned and pushed things further than they have been explained or learned in order to create this virus. Scarily enough, this is just possible enough that it could happen. FREAK ME OUT!

We all have our weaknesses: what ‘thing that goes bump in the night’ is your particular terror? Ghosts, vampires, zombies, clowns or none of the above?

None of the above. What scares me are the crazies that live next door, or the nice man who is harboring sex slaves in his basement that he’s kidnapped and no one knows about – recent discoveries of the three women having been discovered after 10 years of torture and abuse have only made me realize how scary these true monsters are. I’d rather read and write about the fiction ones.

A Day in the Life of. . .D.L. Kane!

NASWgraphic

The first NEW ADULT SLEEPOVER WEEKEND will be held in beautiful Savannah, Georgia December 6-8, 2013. I can’t wait to be there, part of the fun and sharing my New Adult books!

To get us really excited about this weekend, the fabulous Dawn Pendleton has been posting A DAY IN THE LIFE interviews on her website, and I’m happy to share this one with you all. . .get to know D.L.Kane!

(Stay tuned for more fascinating NA authors. . .)

Born and raised in the military, D.L. has traveled the world. She was raised in Europe but settled in her family’s native home in Texas at the age of 13.

D.L. completed her first novel in 2007 but didn’t have the first clue what to do with it. “I was scared. I was terrified that nobody would like it. So I just sat on it and did some research. This was at a time when Indie publishing was still a relatively new concept so I was either going to need an agent or a whole lot of money if I wanted to get published.” While the manuscript sat untouched, D.L. began work on the second installment. Major life changes forced both books to the back burner until 2011 when D.L. finally sent the first manuscript out for Beta reading. “It was the longest week of my life waiting to hear from my Beta reader. A rave review and firm push to complete the next book was all it took for me to get serious about finishing this series.”

“Broken” is a three book N.A. series that follows the lives of four friends as they navigate a world of lies and deceit to find love, honesty and forgiveness. All three books have undergone a major overhaul, including new titles. The first, “Shattered Dream” is expected to be released in September 2013.

LAST DAY Review and Giveaway!

Last Day

by Richard LaPlante

Charlie Wolf is an undercover cop assigned to infiltrate the Sons of Fire motorcycle club, suspected of manufacturing and distributing methamphetamine up and down the East Coast. Charlie’s been undercover for a long time—long enough to have broken the two cardinal rules of his work. He’s forged a strong friendship with Ray Sasso, president of the Sons of Fire. And he’s become addicted to meth.

A near-fatal mistake during the attempted bust by the cops leaves a bullet lodged in the right temporal lobe of Charlie’s brain. Operating to remove it would likely kill Charlie. Living with it will change him forever.

Two men linked by a tangle of lies and twisted loyalties. Two men who could not be more different—or more the same. When they meet again, for one of them it will be the Last Day.

My review: There are books that slowly draw you in, seducing you in a leisurely manner. And then there are books that grab you from your seat and pull you into a wild ride of action and adventure.

LAST DAY falls into the latter category. Wow.

We have Charlie, the main character, who is a mixed bag of intentions. I am one of those readers who prefers clearly defined good and bad, so this undercover cop who has become tied to both his target and meth was not an easy sell. But there is something about Charlie and how he is written that overcame my own sensitivities.

The writing in this book is strong and the story never flags. It and the characters stayed with me, lingering long after I’d finished reading. Right and wrong, good and bad, often are hazy lines in this world, which is a concept that could have made me uncomfortable–yet somehow it didn’t. That’s good writing and excellent storytelling.

And I have to admit that after finishing the book, I was exhausted. . .as though I’d been along for that crazy ride.

If you enjoy a thriller, you’ll love this intense story. I highly recommend it.
