This is an m/f time travel romance. It's a 500 to 1,000 word excerpt inspired by I think I blew a fuse and who let the dogs out, plus the photos below. Chapters 1 through 5 are available on the free read tab at top of blog.
Sunrise 46
Sian ran a trembling finger over her lips. J'dol's kiss had made her heart skip a beat. Her knees were weak and sweat tickled under her nose. Could she fall in love with J'dol? Had she fallen in love with him?She glanced across the deck. How could she have a relationship with a man from the future. The problems were mind-numbing and soul breaking. He'd appeared without warning and had no idea how he'd gotten here. A cold jolt shot through her. What if he was ripped away and sent ahead to his proper time? Could she grab on and go with him? Did she want to? Was she brave enough?A small voice in the back of her mind said, "Yes."Sian blinked. She was willing to leave her life and travel to another time to be with J'dol. She rubbed her forehead. I must be crazy. How could I think that? I think I blew a fuse."So anybody want lunch?" Aunt Mixy's voice broke into Sian's thoughts."I could order a pizza?" Kiry pulled out her cell phone. "I've been craving one for weeks. Been eating healthy. You know, no-carbs and every so often I feel if I don't go on a carb binge I'll so crazy."Sian chuckled. "As crazy as the night you stood in the middle of Lakeshore Avenue and sang Baha Men's Who Let the Dogs Out?"Kiry's chair tumbled back as she jumped up and belted out, "WHO LET THE DOGS OUT? WOOF. WOOF." She boogied around the deck, shaking her legs and waving her arms.J'dol stepped next to Sian. He glanced around the deck and frowned. "There are no dogs. You do not own a dog."Laughing, Sian brushed a loose strand of hair off his forehead. "It's just a song. A silly fun song. I sing Who let the dogs out and then you say, woof, woof. Ready. WHO LET THE DOGS OUT?""Woof." He glanced between Sian and Kiry. "Woof."Sian grabbed him by the waist. "No. No. More enthusiasm. Like this. WOOF. WOOF." She shimmied her shoulders. She watched his gaze fall to her chest. "Dance with me. Come on. You do know how to dance?"J'dol arched an eyebrow. "I am a warrior. I do not woof or dance."The solemnness of his statement cause a twinge in her soul. "You have to woof. You have to have joy and fun in your life. Silliness. Kiry. Order an extra large pizza with double cheese. We're teaching this guy about the here-and-now."J'dol raised his beer to his lips and swallowed a mouthful. "What is pizza?""Pizza is food-heaven. It's round and cut into triangles and filled with ooey-gooey cheese and covered with…well lots of stuff. Pepperoni. Green Peppers. Pineapple. Anchovies. Except never those on my pizza. Ew!" Sian wrinkled her nose."PIZZA'S ON ITS WAY. WOOF. WOOF." Kiry danced next to Sian and J'dol. "And you eat it with beer. So drink up." She pointed to his bottle. He lifted it to his mouth and downed the contents in a couple of gulps."This sounds like it could turn into a party," said Aunt Mixy as she exited the cottage with two beers. She handed one to J'dol and kept the other. "It's summer. A party is a much better idea than sitting around discussing the impossible. Which turns out to be possible." She lifted her bottle J'dol's and clinked her against his. "Cheers. Drink up."He raised the new bottle to his mouth and drank half the contents. The professor sneezed then stood. "I'll go get more beer. I have a suspicion that J'dol can drink beer like we drink water.""Oh. I have my guitar in the car." Purple scurried down the deck steps and quickly returned holding a brown, six-string, acoustic guitar. "We can teach J'dol all about music from our time. I suggest we start with the Beatles." She sat on a chair, pulled a pick out from under a string, slipped the strap over her head and strummed a few strings, then fiddled with the pegheads, tuning the guitar.Sian stood back and watched J'dol as he sat near Purple, gazing at the guitar. She played an early Beatle song, Hard Day's Night. He held out his hand. "May I?"Purple flipped the strap off her and handed him her guitar. He tucked it next to him and strummed his fingers across the strings. "Can you teach me the song you played?"As Purple taught the Beatle hit to J'dol, Sian settled onto a deck chair. Love and joy filled her. Her friends and family had accepted J'dol with few questions. Any questions were aimed more at how time travel could happen rather than wondering about whether he was crazy. They accepted he was from the future. She shivered remembering the first nights when he was so sick and the terror she felt that she wouldn't be able to save him. I'm a romance writer. Not an emergency nurse. The sound of two cars interrupted the music lesson. The professor rounded the corner accompanied by a teenage boy in a white and red pizza delivery uniform. Sian hurried inside, grabbed her wallet, pulled out enough bills to cover the cost of the pizza and a still leave a decent tip. With everybody pitching in to help, soon there was an impromptu pizza party on Sian's deck. They ate pizza, drank beer and sang Beatles, Beach Boys and Monkees' songs.Happiness filled Sian's heart at the joyful expression on J'dol's face. Several beers later, he was relaxed and laughing. She reached out her hand and he laced his fingers through hers and grinned. Sian smiled. I can do this. I have enough money. I can protect him from the authorities. I need him in my life.A chilled breeze brushed her shoulders. J'dol's grip tightened on hers. She glanced up and followed his gaze. A massive black cloud spewing lighting stormed across the lake to towards them.

What people are saying about – A Guy and A Girl
5 Stars - I loved this book...I think that it was an awesome story. It was interesting on how everything came about as well as some surprises on who was doing what. I liked how the couple had issues that would be real life issues as well. Very well written, can't wait to read more books by Victoria as well as maybe some more in relation to characters in the book.
5 Stars - What a great romance. Fast paced. Chock full of tension. Little bit of hockey Little bit of dance. Lots of love.
4 Stars - The story is solid, the love is solid, I'm looking forward to reading more books by Victoria Adams

Book Hooks and A Guy and A Girl #MFRWhooks
Welcome to Victoria's Pages of Romance and Book Hooks. This week's 6 to 8 sentences are from my NA contemporary romance – A Guy and A Girl
Scene Set – We've met Chelsea, Hunter and Kendall – now it's time to meet Todd.
Excerpt –
After spending two days following Chelsea, Todd spent Friday evening at his computer. He scanned in a picture of her he'd taken as she stood in line at the cafeteria. He printed a hundred copies then cut out each one. Gluing them into a collage, he sat back and admired his artistic creation. Unable to resist, he ran his index fingertip over the collage and caressed Chelsea's lips in each photo.

Hunter stepped into the campus coffeehouse and looked around. No Kendall, that was a relief. No Chelsea, that was a disappointment. He settled at a table in the back corner and opened his notebook."Coffee? Double cream, no sugar?"Hunter smiled at the waitress."You studying for the antigens test?"He grimaced and nodded. His stomach rumbled. "And somethin' to eat, please. BLT."Focused on his studying, Hunter barely acknowledged the arrival of his sandwich let alone remembered eating it. A figure sat in the chair opposite him. Hunter looked up from his notes. Seated across from him was a man with an angry brow."Just thought I'd set you straight." Todd's tone matched the look on his face.Keeping his voice level, Hunter placed his pen on the table. "Looking forward to the experience.""Stay away from Chelsea." "Chels told me she dumped you.""Chelsea. Don't go sticking any cute, little nicknames on her." Todd leaned closer. "You don't have the right. She's mine." He brushed a crumb off the table. "My fiancée and I had a little disagreement. When you've been together as long as we have...and as intimate as we've been..." He closed his eyes and sighed. "Our love is too deep...too fulfilling to be broken by silly disagreements."Fiancée?"If your love's that true then why am I a threat?" Hunter forced the sarcasm out of his voice."You aren't a threat to me. I know Chelsea loves me, passionately. I hear it in her whispers and feel it in her kisses."If I throw up on him will he go away? Hunter picked up his pen and twirled it between his fingers. "Chels is just a classmate.""Chelsea!" Todd slammed his hands on the table. His eyes narrowed to a slit. "Just a classmate? Chelsea's the most sublime creature on this planet. It's my destiny to love and protect her."Gawd, get a life.Hunter gripped his pen. "I have to get back to studying. Got a test tomorrow." Todd's voice lowered to growl. "I meant every word I said. Every single word!" He pushed his chair back and stood. "If you go near her, it'll be the last thing you ever do." He turned and walked away.

Heartbroken that her love affair didn't end with the fairy tale Happily Ever After, Julie leaves town to pursue her dream of being a dancer. ExcerptFive years - Julie hadn't seen or thought about him in all that time, and now in the middle of nowhere, he stood on the beach drying off from a swim. Droplets flew as Robert shook his hair. His black mane was shorter than the last time she saw him. The wet ends dripped water on his bare, muscular shoulders. Tricia, an old high school friend once said he had the body of a male stripper - time hadn't changed that. She stepped back onto the beach path, transfixed by the sight of the one person she hated. Her repulsion and loathing of him ran so deep; she'd repressed all memories of him. She thought he'd loved her, and had taken a chance, opening up her heart and body to him. But, instead of returning her love, he proved himself worthy of the gutter from which he'd crawled. Her body said run, but her feet refused to move as she watched a long-legged, svelte, golden blonde rise from the beach chair. She trickled her fingers down his rippled stomach. His voice floated across the sand. It was a calming sound, which had brought a smile to her face when he whispered words of love and passion in her ear.Details she thought she'd long forgotten surged forward. She remembered the way his dark eyes smoldered with anger and his sly, innocent grin. His joyous laughter had made her feel the abandonment of a child frolicking in the year's first snowfall. She stepped backward onto the path, distancing herself from the lovers as the blonde undid the strings on her bathing suit top, and let it fall to the sand.

ExcerptThroughout spare and lunch, Julie looked for Robert, but he didn't appear. She walked to English class alone.Mrs. Wolmsley had finished taking the attendance when Robert entered and placed an admit slip on her desk. She proceeded with a class discussion of the novel they were studying. "Mr. Holiday." Her brow wrinkled. "Are you sleeping or paying attention?"Robert didn't open his eyes. "Payin' attention, ma'am. Just tryin' to get rid of a headache.""Do you find my class painful?""No, ma'am. The three-hour calculus quiz I just wrote was. None of it made any sense to me, but now I'm sittin' here listenin' to you and tryin' to make my headache go away.""Did you read the book?"Robert opened one eye and glanced at Julie. She nodded."Oh yea. I remember. Gawd, it was borin'." Shit. Shouldn't have said that."You found Young Men/Lost Nights/No Dreams boring?""Yea. The guy don't know what he's talkin' 'bout. I'd love to live where he lives. Shore ain't half as nice.""What's so tough about Shore?" A voice floated over from the other side of the room.Robert forced his eyes open. The harsh glare from the lights irritated the throb in his head. "It's called basic survival. In the book, the school was a nice place to go. It had lockers. North Shore Secondary don't got any. Well it's got lockers, just none got any doors on 'em. The teachers ain't as good as here. Mrs. Wolmsley, you're too nice. You wouldn't survive a day.""And why not? I've handled enough rowdy students in my day?" She stood a bit taller."Rowdy?" He snorted. "Try violent. Let me explain it this way, English was givin' bro a harsh go so I whipped my switch past his brains."The teacher blinked.Robert chuckled. "Translation, the English teacher was giving a Shoresmen a rough time, so I threw my knife past his head." A small grin crossed Robert's face. "He didn't bother my buddy no more. Ya see, I'm tryin' to be good while I'm here. I'm gettin' treated like shit but I'm tryin'.""You don't seem to be getting the hint and leaving." Derek yelled across the room."Ya have no idea how much I'd like to, but I'm stuck here.""How is your life different than ours?" Jaclyn tilted her head as she spoke. Robert rubbed his face. He didn't want to become entangled in this conversation. "How many here know who their father is?"Everyone raised their hand. "I don't have a clue and I doubt my hooker mother knows either." He glanced around the room. "Anybody ever had to sleep on the streets 'cause you had no place to go? Anybody spend a cold Saturday night under a street light defending your right to exist?"He paused, waiting for a comment, but the class remained silent. "I'm not proud of my life, but I am proud that I survived. I know you'se guys got problems, but none of your problems are based on survival.""Trying to make us feel sorry for you?" Derek sneered at Robert."No, Jaclyn asked a question and I answered it."Derek stood. His fists were clenched by his thighs. "You're not one of us. You're Shore.""Flash the news bulletin.""You invade our territory. You beat me up. You knocked out Chris and sent Stephan to the hospital." Derek flung out his arm and pointed at Julie. "You stole Chris's girl. Picked a fight in the library—""Chris's girl!" Julie's eyebrows rose. "I have a name. And he did not steal me from Chris."Robert peered at his desk trying to stifle a smile."Chris got what he deserved." Julie slammed her palms on her desk."I was using Robert to make Stephan jealous." Trish's confession was low, but the class heard it.The girl sitting across from Robert asked, "Is it true you killed someone?"

Sorry I missed the past 2 weeks - had previously scheduled posts for other people on my blog. But now I'm back. On my inaguaral visit to Book Hooks, I introduced the hero of my book - A Guy and A Girl - Hunter. This week we meet Chelsea.
Scene set - Chelsea just entered her apartment while answering her cell phone.
Chelsea's call display read Kendall Rivers. "Hey, Kennie girl, what's up?"
"Chelsea, you've so got to come with us tonight."
"Go where?" Chelsea walked to the refrigerator, pulled open the door and grabbed a Diet Coke.
"Brannigans. Have I got something to show you."
Chelsea swallowed a mouthful of pop. "I know the strippers are there this weekend. I like dancers but..."
"I like dancers' butts, too." Kendall's giggle floated into Chelsea's ear.

Sunrise is flashing on Wednesday Briefs #WedBriefs
Welcome to this week's Wednesday Briefs.
This is an m/f time travel romance. It's a 500 to 1,000 word excerpt inspired by I’ll give you a hand (I modified this one as J'dol doesn't use contractions), plus the photo(s) below. Chapters 1 through 5 are available on the free read tab at top of blog.
I know it's been a while – deepest apologies. I put the last couple of episodes up on Free Read – Sunrise – chapter 43 and 44 – so you can get caught back up on what's going on. I was stuck on where to go with the story and took a break to figure out the basic plot. Now, So I think I'm ready to proceed. (except for possible missed Wednesdays during the summer because of – well because of SUMMER!)
Sunrise 45
J'dol frowned as he looked at Kiry. Her ridiculous question of, What do you mean you were offered a wife?, seemed inappropriate in the conversation of death and plasma death bombs.Sian tapped the patio table to draw everyone's attention. "Before J'dol explains, does anybody want a drink? Coffee? Diet Coke? Lemonade? Beer?""I would like ale." J'dol stood. "I will give you a hand."Requests for drinks were heard and noted by Sian. She pushed back her chair and followed J'dol to the door.Relief swept through J'dol at being able to remove himself from this group of Sian's family and friends and spend a quiet moment – alone - with Sian. He held the door to the cottage open, waited until she stepped through then followed her into the kitchen. "Beer is in the fridge." She said, reaching into the cupboard and placing several glasses on the counter. "Can you grab the lemonade in the large glass container and two cans of Diet Coke? Small silver cans with red writing."J'dol open the refrigerator door. An array of colourful containers filled his vision. Cool air brushed across his skin. A bright silver coloured object caught his attention. It fit snuggly in his hand. The skin on it was cold. Red lettering covered part of the side and it had a little tab on the top."Yes. Two of those." Sian held her hand out, waiting for the cans."What is Diet Coke? And what is this?" He held up the can and gave it a quick shake."Oh. No. Don't do that." She laughed. "Pop doesn't like to be shook."J'dol glanced at the can as he lifted an eyebrow. "This is a thing. It can not like or not like.""Pop would beg to differ. Watch." She took the can and gave it a good shake then held it over the sink and edged the tab upwards. A large hiss was followed by a brief eruption of brown sticky liquid. "Everybody learns this lesson once in life. Never open a shaken can of pop. You'd need a shower after. He licked a droplet off his hand. "Mmm. Sweet.""Okay, now for a lesson on lemonade. That tall glass container. Hand it to me."When he'd given her the pitcher, she filled a small glass and offered it to him. J'dol raised it to his nose and sniffed. He looked at the soft yellow liquid. Trusting Sian, he raised it to his lips and swallowed a mouthful. "Sweet. No, sour. Sweet and sour.""Yup. Lemons are sour, but if you add enough sugar you make lemonade and it's a great summertime drink." She placed the pitcher on a tray, plus the glasses and the two cans of pop. J'dol grabbed a beer from the fridge and twisted the cap off. He raised the bottle to his lips and chugged. "This is a much better drink.""You remembered how to open the beer. You're learning about my time and my things." Sian stepped closer, lifting her hands. A puzzled look crossed her face. She dropped her hands, twisting her fingers together. "So much has happened between us in so short a time. It seems like ages ago when I was sitting on the dock at sunrise and you…arrived. There's so much I want to teach you about…now. About this century."Before he thought about it, J'dol closed the distance between them, placed his hands on her hips and pulled her snug. "I want to learn it all. I want to learn about your world. Your life. You."Sian tilted back her head, exposing her neck. He leaned forward and pressed three tiny kisses up her smooth flesh. Heat built inside. It had been a long time since he had lain with or even desired a woman. He suspected he wanted to do both with Sian."J'dol!" She clasped her head and pulled his mouth to hers.Fire couldn't burn as much as the touch of her lips against his. He wrapped her in a tight embraced and kissed her. A familiar pressure built in his groin."Oh. Hoho! I was wondering what was taking so long." The sound of Kiry's voice split them apart with a gasp.J'dol's gaze drifted down Sian's beautiful face and rested on her heaving bosom. He wanted to know more about this woman. He wanted to know her thoughts. Her dreams. How she tasted. And how she'd respond to his touch.Sian bit her bottom lip, turned, picked up the tray and headed to the door. "We were…were just…"Kiry snickered. "I know what you were doing and I apologize for interrupting." She linked her arm through J'dol's and directed him to the patio. "I'm so glad you are falling for my friend.""I am not falling. I am standing.""It's a saying. When someone starts to love someone. We say, they are falling in love.""Then I agree. I am falling."

Excerpt - Robert stood near the beer line and watched as a brunette in a tight short skirt and low cut top strutted across the room and stood before him.She dropped her gaze to his feet and moved it up to his hips then linked gazes with him. "Hello, tall, dark and totally fuckable." She dragged her tongue across her top lip.Robert's chuckle started with a shake of his shoulders then moved to the crooked grin on his face before it erupted from his mouth. She stepped in closer, slid her hand down his stomach and rested it on the inside of his thigh.Robert didn't release his gaze from hers. "What? Ya want me to just rip your clothes off and do ya here?"Her pupils dilated.Robert flicked her hand off his leg then glanced left and right to see who had slipped their arms around his."Tonya." Tricia waited until the girl looked at her. "This gorgeous hunk of maleness is more man than you could ever handle."Jennifer flicked her hand. "Go away now. He's all ours."Tonya turned on her heel and stormed off."Thank you. But I coulda handled that myself.""We're just protecting Julie's property." Tricia winked and wandered over to speak with a friend.Jennifer released his arm. "Tonya's the school slut.""Figured that out all by myself."Julie stopped in front of them. "Did you get lost coming back from getting the beer?" She glanced at his empty hands. "Or did you get lost going to find the beer?"Christopher barged between them and bumped Robert's shoulder. "Guess Jennifer's starting to hang with trash."Robert lunged forward, grabbed Christopher's shoulder and spun him around. Before Christopher could react, Robert slammed his palms on Christopher's chest shoving him back a couple of steps. "I am so not going take any of this shit tonight. Ya wanna take this outside and end it now?" His shoulders heaved with the depth of breaths he inhaled.Refusing to make eye contact with Robert, Christopher glanced around. "I didn't mean nothing."With one step, Robert invaded Christopher's personal space. "Yea, you did." He locked his gaze onto Christopher's and didn't blink.Jennifer started to step forward, but Julie touched her arm. "No, leave him alone. Let him deal. He won't do anything stupid."Several heartbeats later, a friend of Christopher's grabbed his arm, pulling him away.Robert slightly turned his head and watched as they camouflaged Christopher into the crowd. He rolled his shoulders and twisted his head around then turned. All signs of anger had disappeared. He stepped closer to Jennifer. "Sorry. He shouldn't have insulted ya. If ya want me to go, I'm outta here."She handed him an unopened beer, rose up on her toes and placed a tiny kiss on his cheek. "You did good. He's an ass." Smiling at the surprised look on Robert's face, she walked over to a group of girls to mingle with her friends.Still holding the beer, Robert walked nearer to Julie and pulled her close. "Thanks. I heard what you said. Thanks for trustin' me." He pressed his lips against the velvet skin of her neck and inhaled the aroma of her perfume. He wanted to trail kisses up her long neck and lose himself in the touch of her soft pink lips, instead, he stood before her gazing into her eyes.Julie's voice went mute at the touch of his lips. The heat of his flesh on hers made her mind swirl. Through the noise of the crowd and the fire that raged in both of them, the sound of music broke through."Wanna dance?" He breathed across her ear.
