Inconceivable!

This past week I was on vacation in Duck, NC a beautiful stretch of the Outerbanks. As I’ve mentioned on the blog before, we go every year with our old college friends. There’s seventeen of us in all– eight adults and nine children. It’s always boatloads of fun and this year was no exception. We did the usual:
Wake up, Have coffee, Play Scattergories
Eat a fattening breakfast (completely disregarding caloric intake)
Bake on the Beach, Swim in the Surf, Read a great book
Come back to the house...

Joie de vivre – down with Blue Mondays!

I have a category on my blog called Joie de Vivre, those special moments, videos, photos -the things that make you remember to have fun, to bust out laughing, to take yourself less seriously – captured like a bug in a shadowbox, to appreciate when you’re at a low ebb.
Is it just me or does it seem like some of the latest music has us all lip-syncing and acting out. I lay before you some evidence. My contributions to bring you a better Monday experience.
Now that man has joie de vivre.
And ju...

New Release plus Giveaway!

Hi everyone,
Life has been super crazy and even though I’m in slowdown mode now, I wasn’t for the last few weeks. Why? 2 new releases in the last month! The first was Touched by Death, and the second, VAMPIRE IN DISTRESS, is book 2 in a favorite series of mine – the vampire YA/adult series called, Family Blood Ties.
This book is long overdue and for that I’m sorry. I’ve had numerous emails from fans requesting a release date, and that date had become an elusive thing to pin down. But I’ve f...

Where do stories come from?

Civilians ask this of writers all the time. One of the first things I learned when in the company of writers, is no two are alike. We all have our own process. Now yes, there are some rules, but as to the where and how…that’s as different as plotters (outliners) and pantzers (organic).
I have a book coming out in September, so thought I’d share a few posts about its roots.
I’ve always been fascinated with several subjects: science, history and the unexplained.
I remember my horror as an adol...

Cursive Handwriting and the Dodo

They opened a new grade school near us. State of the art, airy, full of light. Sure beat the old parochial school I attended, with its gloomy hallways, worn floor tiles and the ever-present scent of packaged potatoes boiling in the puketeria. What I found missing from this modern new gold star took me by surprise. No border wall paper of the alphabet in cursive. What???
In many schools, cursive is no longer part of the curriculum. In an age where kids text in code and writing is done on wo...
A Tuesday Browse Among The Shelves

Last week fellow Muser M.V. Freeman talked about the places where she gathers inspiration and turns it into stories. She showed us a picture of her dark cluttered office with its messy desk and shelves crammed with books. Then she showed us a picture of her sitting room; comfy chairs, lots of windows and shelves crammed with books.
Her words and her pictures inspired me to look at my own workspace.
Messy desk—check!
Comfy chair—check!
Shelves crammed with books—check!! check!!
Notice a recurri...

Making progress – Livestrong

Three years ago, I lost ten pounds in 6 days, and 20 pounds in six weeks. I was working Michael Thurman’s Six Week Body Makeover plan which is based on body type. I took a test and determined what type I was – I’ve forgotten – then I flipped through the handy notebook to see what foods I could eat for my body type.
I chose to do the accelerated weight loss plan for the first two weeks. Truly, the weight just washed away. I couldn’t go on forever eating just chicken, mustard greens and rice...

According to her bio, she is a wife, mother, grandmother, fairly decent photographer and pretty good cook, but first and foremost–a writer. Welcome, Kate!
I should probably be blogging about my newest book, DREAM BOUND, which just released a couple of weeks ago, o...

Aftermath

By now it’s no secret that I went on vacation during June and took a really long walk. I know it’s no secret here because you, my fellow Musers, and some of you, our readers, were among my most supportive cheerleaders and readers of my goofy travelogue blog. I was really surprised at how awesome it was to have friends along on this trip of a lifetime. So thanks!
I’ve spent a lot of time with thoughtful memories of this trip. It was unique for me, and DH, in several aspects. First, it’s bee...
