Climbing … Trying to Get Home

Today [Saturday, 14 April 2012] was a bright, sunshiny day, a little windy, and when I made it out for a run just before noon, it was 14°C. Lately, I haven’t been running as regularly as I would like, but completing a 7.5 km (4.6 mi) run today offered a great lift to my day. Running, for me, is like yoga to others. It is a time of meditation where I am able to block out the world, quiet my mind —attain a sort of perfect peace. It is usually when I am running that I can see the way forward thr...

Godsends Revisited

It's Sunday evening of the Easterweekend, and I am sitting on my living room sofa with Mendelssohn, myoverweight attention-seeking orange tabby cat, curled into my leg. He's snoringloudly, and content. Two of my other cats are curled up together on theottoman, even though they don't necessarily like each other. My forth cat (yes,I'm that crazy cat man) is upstairs sleeping somewhere. He'llsoon come running at the sound of the scoop digging into the cat foodcontainer.
The Easter weekend has...

Social Media and Me: A Love-Hate Relationship

I know it's the 21st century, and advances intechnology have changed the nature of communications. The rise and popularityof social networking sites —Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, Myspace, Skyrock, and the list goes on — is proof that the waywe communicate is ever-evolving. Add to the mix text messaging, online datingsites like e-Harmony and Lavalife, and e-mail. It's easy to see why letterwriting can be perceived as an archaic art form; it's much easier to send offan e-mail, a text message...

Spring is in the Air

This time last week I was, like most runners, wearing shortsand a T-shirt, soaking up the sun as temperatures soared into the mid-twenties.Perhaps I was, like most people, a little too eager to welcome spring and saygoodbye to winter. Winter wasn't quite ready to be displaced, and over the pastcouple of days we've felt her "wrath." Temperatures plummeted to -18°C, and I'vebeen holed up in my house, unwilling to be adventurous and venture out into thecold. So I've been putting off running...

On Life, Online Dating and Humanity

We have arrived just past the middle of March, and todaywas, at its high, 24°C.Unseasonably warm? No doubt, and many people are waiting for another blast ofwinter. Perhaps we have said goodbye to winter, or perhaps March will go outlike a lion. Time will tell.
I'mquite content about the possibility that winter might be over. Don't get mewrong, I like winter but this year it was quite warm, and I didn't make it outskiing once. I spent a lot of time indoors, not just at home, but in Montréaland...

Keeping On

This afternoon the sunlight glistens on the snow that felltwo days ago. The brown-green grass has finally been covered up. Although itfeels colder than -8°C, it actually feels like winter, and it's a great day tohit the ski slopes. Seated at my kitchen table, the warm sun beaming into theroom gives a much-needed lift to the day as well as my spirits.
Over the course of the past few days, I've had to trickmyself into writing. I don't have any trouble completing my Morning Pages. I'vebeen...
