Shadow Cay by Leona Bodie
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An awesome suspense novel!

Shadow Cay is a well-written nautical tale. I read one other review that said “Do NOT read this book if you are planning to sail…” and I was thinking “It would be awesome to read this while sailing!” So, I guess that’s how people differ. Either way, I loved the pacing and suspense in this book that kept me intrigued the whole way through. Excellent developed characters, exciting action, and interesting settings. Loved this book.

My Review:

Tumbleweed Letters by Vonnie Davis

Sweet romance

I won this book in a contest and after reading Those Velvet Eyes (which I highly recommend!), I had to read this. Tumbleweed Letters is a beautiful story of two lonely people who find each other in the Dakota Territory in 1878. Since I’m from South Dakota, I can appreciate the history of the region.

I do think the story could have been expanded and the span of time increased for real love to develop. I would have liked to see the wedding instead of hearing about it afterward. Even so, parts brought tears to my eyes, parts made me laugh out loud, and I very much enjoyed the journey. Eli is adorable.

About Andrew P. WestonAndrew P Weston was born in the city of Birmingham, in the UK and grew up in the towns of Bearwood and Edgbaston. He eventually attended Holly Lodge Grammar School for Boy's where he was School Captain and Head Boy. He was an active sportsperson for the school, college and a variety of rugby, martial art, swimming and athletics teams throughout the city. On graduation in 1977 he joined the Royal Marines fulfilling a number of specialist roles both in the UK and abroad. 

In 1985 he became a police officer with the Devon & Cornwall Constabulary, and served in a variety of uniformed and plain clothed departments until his retirement in 2008. Over those years, he wrote and illustrated a selection of private books for his children regarding the life of a tiny kitten, called, “The Adventures of Willy Whiskers”, gained further qualifications in Law and Religious Studies, was an active member of Mensa and continued to be an active sportsperson, providing lessons free of charge to local communities. 

An unfortunate accident received on duty meant Andrew had to retire early from the police force, but after moving to the sunny Greek island of Kos to speed up his recuperation, he was at last able to devote time to the “Guardian Concept” he had developed over his years in the military and police. When not writing, Andrew enjoys Greek dancing and language lessons, being told what to do by his wife, Annette, and hunting shadows in the dark. He also has a magnificent mustache collection. 

Andrew is now contracted to Pagan Writers Press for three books. “Fairy Tail”, is a short, but dark and gritty erotic paranormal/thriller with a twist. The second book, “Guardian Angels” is the introductory book to the “Guardian Series”, a sci-fi action/adventure epic set in the near future. The latest short story, “Blood Moon”, is a paranormal action/thriller set in the jungles of South America. Further work on the Guardian Series and a new paranormal series, The Cambion Journals, has been completed and will hopefully be published during 2013.

Story telling seems to be a part of my DNA. Since childhood, I made up fantastical characters and brought them to life. Part of it was to escape the turmoils of childhood and some were just for fun. Sitting beside my couch is a constant stack of history, biographies, and compelling fiction, which means I have many overloaded bookshelves. Wouldn't that be great to have a room just full of shelves? I would love to see a wave of outstanding, self-published authors take over the market. I think it's important to own your work and take pride in it. Writing several novels and short stories, I know the trials of writing and rejection. Constructive criticism can only make you better. Q: Tell me a little bit about yourself. What do you do for fun?I love writing and narrating books so I think work is fun! Most of the time. Editing a manuscript before it’s released can be a grueling experience, but it brings me one day closer to release day! (Gotta see the bright side, lol) I do force myself to leave prison, er, I mean home once in a while by going out for meals with friends or shopping, unless it’s grocery shopping then that’s a chore, but if I bring my iPod it’s okay. I enjoy cuddling up with my kiddos to watch The Big Bang Theory together. All right – I’ll stop rambling about my boring life now, lol
Q: What do you like most about the genre you write in?I like that with the publisher’s I work with, I can push the envelope with my writing and they allow me to do so. I’m able to use language and explore scenarios I wouldn’t in everyday life so it keeps things interesting.
Q: Where is your favorite place to write?In my house when it’s quiet and my kids are at school. I’m not one of those coffee shop writers who sit in a Starbucks because being the little old woman who had so many children she didn’t know what to do, I don’t often get away to write. I’ve learned how to focus with the chaos going on around me sometimes, but now that all of my kids are in school full time, I have lots of hours in the day to do what I love. Now I need more hours in the day, lol
Q: What’s your next project?I’m working on an erotic romantic suspense and the next book in The Harder series. Celery, Sex and Other Good Things for the Heart is now available, and Chocolate, Sex and Other Tasty Treats for the Soul will be out in November. Monkeys, Sex and Other Birthday Surprises was the first one published a year ago.
Q: How do you feel about Dr. Pepper? You want me to feel up Dr. Pepper?!?!?! Oh, sorry – how do I feel about it? Well, he’s a nice red color, bubbly, and tasty, with a hint of cherry. I used to really love it as a kid, but now I don’t drink soft drinks any more. My kids however do like Dr. Pepper and always ask for it as a treat.
