Spirit Houses X zine out – 1 WEEK LEFT to order!

It’s taken me a while longer than I’d have liked, but I’m pleased to say that the Spirit Houses X zine is now go – so here it is!

Copies of Spirit Houses - both normal version (black cover with white eyes) and anniversary X variant (white cover with black eyes) and limited edition companion zine 'DPM Field Guide to the treatment of Paranatural Citizens'

The photo shows the regular issue Spirit Houses (which is always available online) plus the super limited edition tenth anniversary Spirit Houses X cover variant, and its matching, limited edition handmade companion zine.

This zine has been a bit of a labour of love – I’ve never made one so packed with text and illustrations before! It’s a tiny 16-page treasure, writ...

Spirit Houses X – cover reveal!

Image shows Spirit Houses X by Die Booth, a white book with black line drawings of eyes and a teal green X and line drawing of a tooth, set on a table with a crystal ball and some old glass bottlesHalloween is almost upon us, I’ve been hard at work making and ordering lots of lovely merch for the Spirit Houses X relaunch, and I really hope that you love what I’ve been up to.

I’m still working on the limited edition zine – so that still may or may not happen (exciting to be kept guessing, right? RIGHT?!) but now there’s badges, bookmarks, stickers, coasters and more and I’m pretty sure most of it isn’t what you’re expecting.

And of course – the rereleased book itself!

So, here’s the new co...

Happy Friday 13th! Spirit Houses X is go!

Image shows the cover of Spirit Houses X mostly covered in green silk. You can just about see a white background, black text and a green swirl, with a badge showing an illustrated blue eye resting on top of the book cover.Happy Friday 13th!

Well. It’s already been a day (week, month, year, decade…) but you know what? Just carrying on putting art out there with respect and love in the face of hate is revolution. Just continuing to exist is rebellion at this stage innit.

A decade ago on Friday 13th (of September, but who’s counting… well, I am, obviously…) I released my debut novel and first solo publication into the wild.

Now, ten years later, I am officially announcing… dun dun dunnnn… Spirit Houses X!

The only X...

Spirit Houses X – anniversary update

Spirit Houses infographic showing book cover and text - badass female protagonist, headwrecking demons, 1930s adventure vibes, what if you accidentally ate someone? So, this is an update about an update, because I’m building hype and that, aren’t I?

To anyone interested in the ten-year anniversary of my debut novel Spirit Houses (a tale of demons, adventure and nice cups of tea – think Good Omens x Kingdom Hospital x The Mummy) this is a quick one to say that I’ve been very busy planning for its re-release.

There will be more information COMING SOON, with details about what’s on offer and how you can get your hands on it.

For now, I will say – there will be...

Life after Twitter

Screenshot of the final account deletion screen of TwitterIt’s been a hell of a year again, emphasis on the ‘hell.’

Life is moving very quickly for me, mostly in ways that aren’t particularly comfortable, but if there’s one thing that I can take away from my experiences this year, it’s to learn how to let things go before they turn really bad, be that relationships, business deals, or social media.

I first made a Twitter account way back in about 2008, and I quickly tired of and deleted it. It was at a point in time where I still had my beloved Livejou...

Happy birthday Spirit Houses – 10 whole years!

Author Die Booth smiling holding a copy of Spirit Houses. He is a white middle aged man with dark hair and moustache, wearing a black tshirt. The book cover is black, with the title and line drawings of eyes in white, and a single line drawing of a tooth in red. It’s funny, isn’t it? Time?

Here I was, all set up to do this perky blog post about how Spirit Houses is now an entire decade old! I have plans for an anniversary celebration! There’ll be limited-edition stuff! A pre-order! New merch!

Well. There’ll still be all of that.

I’m sad that the tone of this blog post is more sombre than I’d like, but in looking back over things in order to write this, I’m struck by how much has changed in the past ten years. I’m not the man I was in 2013 when I happil...

Happy birthday Cool S!

Image shows author Die Booth - a middle aged white man with dark hair, eyes and facial hair, pulling a wide-eyed face whilst holding up a copy of Cool S, which shows a graffiti Cool S drawn on a concrete wall on the cover.I can hardly believe that a year has passed already, but it’s true – my little monster is one year old today (OK it was actually last Friday, but I was trying to juggle a ton of awful life admin and put on a club night, so we’ll pretend I’m not a few days late!)

A year ago, the curse of Cool S was released upon the world. I’d like to thank everyone who has bought, read, reviewed and generally enjoyed it, and everyone who has since sent me any Cool S memes or spottings in the wild – I am delighte...

Unquiet Grove – beautiful new anthology out now

Cover of Unquiet Grove shows an etched black and white illustration of a twisted human-like treeI’m over the moon to share that ‘Unquiet Grove’ from Egaeus Press is now available to buy.

This is the second Egaeus anthology I’ve had the honour to be part of, and this one is every bit as beautiful as the first. These books really are stunning and I’m beyond delighted to have my work in them and to have had the chance to work with Egaeus Press, who are an absolute pleasure to work with.

‘Unquiet Grove’ is a collection of new uncanny and unclassifiable tales of trees, forests and woods. It inc...

Parting ways with my current publisher

This is probably the hardest thing I’ve had to write in my writing career to date, so please bear with me if I word anything clumsily.

I’m deeply regretful to announce that as of yesterday my publishing contract with Erro Press for my queer folk horror collection ‘The Holes in the Air’ has been terminated, at my request.

I’ve gone backwards and forwards all of yesterday over how to announce this, as I know that transparency and honesty isn’t always smiled upon in the writing industry. However, a...
