Character Inspiration: INK
Helloooooooo, everyone. So, it’s a funny thing, this writing thing. Sometimes, my imaginary friends (those would be my book characters) are really vivid to me. Sometimes I can see them in mah brain. Sometimes, I can hear their voice. Sometimes I just have a really vivid impression of their character and personality, but the physical description is fuzzy. But if there’s one thing I’ve learned from years of writing and publishing, it is this: most readers like visuals! SO! I try to make visuals. This also makes it easier for my marketing assistant to do cool graphics and fun ads and stuff. New #contemporaryromance INK: A Love Story on 7th and Main
Happy New Year! I decided to start 2018 with a brand new pre-order releasing March 13. INK is a story I outlined a few years ago that got put on the back burner because other responsibilities intruded. But I pulled it out last year, finally wrote it, and now I have my first new contemporary romance in six years! “But Elizabeth, you write fantasy, not contemporary.” Common misconception, my friends! Though I’ll always consider myself a fantasy writer first, I actually got started writing contemporary romance. (And I do have one stand-alone CR already published, The Genius and the Muse.) The idea for this book, which will probably be a series of stand-alones, is for me to have a bit of a break from the heavy world-building of the Irin Chronicles and Elemental Legacy. The ups and downs of audiobooks.
As many of you know, I’ve been working for the last year on completing self-publishing on the some of my books for audio. This has been while also writing and publishing six other pieces of fiction. Confession time: I hate producing my own audiobooks. I don’t hate audiobooks! Though they’re not my favorite format for reading fiction, I absolutely love listening to non-fiction, especially for memoir and comedy, and I’ve slowly crept into appreciating short fiction in audio format. My son adores audiobooks and has a ton of them on his iPod in lots of genres, but mostly sci-fi and fantasy. And he’s the one that really got me started on appreciating the format. In fact, I have some audiobook recs here. But producing my own books? Nope. Hate it. Absolutely hate it. ALL of this has to do with me being the author of the thing being produced. Several things […]
