Huffington Post: The Invention of Nature

Astonishing new book Reading this book, you will find out-- in sumptuous, finely written detail--why Humboldt was so highly regarded by these and many, many other contemporaries  Andrea Wulf's book is a paragon of research, thoughtfulness, considerable humor and fine writing. Her accomplishment in explaining this remarkable man to us is to be congratulated. Huffington Post

Guardian: History writing male preserve

Here is an article in the Guardian about a study that reveals just how maleorientated history writing still is. Really shocking to read the numbers. Women are allowed to write about, well, women, said Imogen Robertson, chair of the Historical Writers Association in the UK.

I have often been asked (sometimes accused) why I DONT write about woman so, Im feeling a little vindicated here because the article ends with this paragraph:

But both authors and publishers highlighted Andrea Wulfs biography of Alexander Humboldt, The Invention of Nature. Were discussing this just days after [she] has won the Costa biography award, said Robertson, so perhaps there is hope.
