You Can’t Just Cut And Paste!
Urgh. Doing the last little bit of research for #FGU (more properly known as From The Ground Up: Building A World That Works) and I’ve been doing a bit of comparative work with some of the other worldbuilding books that are out there – and trust me, there are surprisingly few, which is why I decided to write this book in the first place. And not only are worldbuilding books actually far less common than you’d believe, every single one I’ve found so far suffers from one of two flaws.
Either it’...

What To Do When You Accidentally Wrote An MG Book
1) Panic, because the book was supposed to be YA.
2) Research the heck out of the difference between MG and YA. Some good starting points are here, here, here and here(this one may contain ‘language’).
3) Ask for a bunch of volunteers to read the book for you. Look for volunteers who read MG and YA regularly, who can spot the difference between the two.
4) Convince yourself in the meantime that everyone’s feedback will come back agreeing with your original intentions and all will be well.
5) Rece...

Just a reminder that Liana and I have weekly (mostly unedited) short stories going on over at the Darkness&Good blog. Today my little piece (which is really more a vignette, and may or may not have a series of novels attached O:)) is about a girl, and a fox, and the snow. Go check it out

Jane Doe Cover Reveal!
Yay, the twinny one Liana Brooks has a cover for her upcoming sci fi thriller series with HarperCollins! This is the cover for the ebook, which is coming out on April 28. There will be a print edition too, but not for a couple of months after that
SO! What’s the book about, I hear you ask? Well! I have a blurb for you! HOW CONVENIENT.
A body is found in the Alabama wilderness. The question is:
Is it a human corpse … or is it just a piece of discarded property?
Agent Samantha Rose has been exiled...

Writerly Obsessions

Natalie Goldberg (viamiddecember)
I keep writing about drugs, killers, and bad choices… what does this say about me? ~ Liana Brooks
Me, I write about people who find strength they didn’t know they had, who discover the magic and wonder in everyday life, and who have to suffer deeply in order to get what they want. Also they all pretty much...

Exciting Booky Things!
You guys! I got my copy of Liana Brooks’s Even Villains Go To The Movies today! In print and everything! There’s one thing about having an ebook released by a publisher other than yourself – but a print book? That’s another level of cool again. And I am so stoked to be able to hold a copy of this book in my hands. It’s not mine, but Liana and I are crit partners, and I think I must have read through the draft of Movies at least four times before it went to the publisher, and I am disproportio...

Things I Really Need To Bake
Blame it on pregnancy cravings, or the fact that I’ve been too sick to do much cooking in the last 5 months, or a stress-induced desire for comfort food, or the search for procrastination, or anything else you like, but the fact of the matter is the last few weeks have been one giant, continuing saga of OHMYGOSH THIS THING I MUST BAKE.
Obviously, the whole being-sick-and-exhausted-because-growing-new-minion thing has put a damper on my abilities to actually DO any of this cooking, and the list...
