Blessed with Leprosy?

grace is pain quote from WillowsA person doesn’t have to read the old testament very long to see a pattern.

Some dude becomes a king and in the beginning, it’s all good. He does what is pleasing to the Lord. And so the king gains more power, more success.

But with that power and success comes a problem….

The king becomes proud.

And the king departs from God.

This is the pattern I’ve been reading as I find myself alternating back and forth between Kings and Chronicles.

Enter Uzziah.

This is his story.

He did what was pleasing to the...

Battle Three: Resurrection Rolls

resurrection rollsIn honor of Easter, the third battle in the Pinterest War between Becky Wade and myself is…..

Resurrection Rolls!

Anybody ever make these before?

They’re a great Easter recipe to do with kids. The marshmallows melt when you bake, so when you break the rolls open, they are empty inside, just like the tomb!

All you need is a can of crescent dinner rolls, large marshmallows, melted butter, cinnamon, and sugar.

Separate the crescent rolls into triangles.

Mix the cinnamon and sugar.

Dip a large marshmall...

Pinterest War: Battle Two Results

celebratory cakes

In honor of the release of Wishing on Willows, Becky Wade threw down a celebratory cake challenge for the second battle of our Pinterest War. The results are in! In fact, the results are above.

Becky and I give this one a B- for the amount of effort required since it took some time and concentration.

A D for kid fun, since we both ended up doing this one solo.

An A- for beauty and resemblance to the original. (Okay, so I give Becky’s an A- for beauty and resemblance. I’m still not quite sure wha...

Holy Book Launch, Batman

wishing on willows no typoWow…where do I begin?

Yesterday, Wishing on Willows launched into the world.

Book-release days are always a bit bizarre. They don’t involve a lot of physical running around, but they do involve a lot of computer running around. So although I spent the bulk of my day on my rear, by the end of the night, I felt as if I’d run a marathon! A glorious, wonderful marathon.

First, I just want to say a GIANT thank you to those of you who joined last night’s online launch party! Your enthusiasm and encour...

Pinterest War: Battle One Results

Pinterest Challenge OneThe top picture is the one found on Pinterest. The one below is the Ganshert’s attempt to wax Easter eggs.

Okay. So our eggs aren’t the prettiest eggs you’ve ever seen.

Although I must say, the cracked one with the toothpick antennae has a certain charm to it. And who doesn’t like a black Easter egg? Symbolic of Black Friday, no?

Despite their slightly pathetic appearance, they were super fun and easy to make and a huge hit with my son who does not like to color paper but apparently likes to col...

Peace Doesn’t Just Happen

Becky WeidowI love meeting with God in the morning. In those quiet moments before my day really begins, His mercies are so new, His words are so sweet, His presence is so strong and my heart is so still that the Lord’s peace is palpable.

But then I close my Bible, I put away my journal, and I dive into an ever-growing to-do list. Something doesn’t happen like it was supposed to happen. Brogan wakes up in a whiny, messy mood, leaving a trail of debris everywhere he steps. We rush and rush to get out the do...

Pinterest Wars: It Is On!

easter eggsBattle One between myself and the talented, Becky Wade involves two simple ingredients: crayons and hard-boiled eggs.

Apparently, when the eggs are nice and hot and fresh out of the pot, you color on them with crayons and get something pretty like this picture.

Who’s going to join us?

We will post our disastrous inspiring results this Friday on Facebook and Pinterest. So if you haven’t already liked Becky’s Facebook page or mine, now’s a great time to do so. You can also join us on Pinterest by...

A Worry-Less Life

Depression. young attractive woman with an awful migraine

My pastor tweeted something once that went something like this…

“Worry is temporary atheism. An absence of trust in God and His timing.”

And I was like, “Whoa, now there’s some conviction.”

I wouldn’t describe myself as a worry wart, but I do obsess over things.

I find myself hitting refresh on my email or a certain private Facebook group, fretting over something that is absolutely beyond my control.

Here’s the thing.

My worry does not help.

My obsessing doesn’t serve to speed up the process.

All it...
