Battle Six Results: I Didn’t Start the Fire

candle jar results

While Becky’s final result may look prettier than mine, please let it be known that I did not start any fires while making my candle jar like some people I know.

I think you should take exhibit A (AKA, Becky’s charred first attempt) into account before deciding on a winner:

becky fireWe give this one a B- for kid-friendly, because of the fire incident (although that was Becky, not her children).

A B+ for easiness. The right supplies can be a bit tricky to find. Hence, Becky’s “jar”.

And a C for beauty/rese...

All That Brokenness

broken glassWe hardly have to look to see all the brokenness.

It’s in our news.

It’s in our homes.

It’s across the world.

And across the street.

There is brokenness in Boston.

There is brokenness in Congo.

There is brokenness everywhere.

People.

Families.

Institutions.

Systems.

Governments.

Sometimes its cry is so loud that if we’re not careful, we can drown in it, forgetful that yes, this brokenness is real.

But so is the redemption.

Maybe not as loud or glaringly obvious.

But it’s there.

God breathes life into all that...

Battle Six: A Candle Craft

candleIt’s Becky’s turn to throw down a challenge in this Pinterest War of ours and she’s going crafty on us!

I’m pretty excited about this one for two main reasons:

First, the finished product is primple – which is my made-up word for pretty + simple, which is my style.

Second, for a non-crafty person, this doesn’t look too intimidating!

All you do is find a glass jar.

Carefully tear out a page from a favorite book (I know, this may make some people cringe).

Cut some hearts.

Stick in the jar with a votiv...

Battle Five Results: Family Feet (Sort of)

feet pinterest challengeOkay, so our dog didn’t exactly cooperate.

We tried several times to get him to lay on his back and put his hind paws up on the couch, but he was having absolutely none of it.

Hence, our photo.

Perhaps not the next framer, but definitely laughter inducing.

Let it be known, we have a bigger, harder to handle dog than the Wades. Just sayin’.

Becky and I give it a B+ for kid fun (there was giggling involved).

A B for easiness.

And a B- for beauty/resemblance to the original.

Join us next week for our 6t...

These are the Days….

003These are the days I will reflect on when I’m old.

These are the days I will wish I had back.

This time when it was just us, our small little family, waiting for another a half a world away.

My four-year old bundle of sweet chaos, with sticky fingers that touch everything.

A dirt-lover who scoops it up by the fistful, rubs it all over his bare belly, and declares, “I’m the sandman, Mommy!”

An adventurer with an imagination as tall as the sky, pointing at the cute old couple walking down the sidewa...

Battle Five: A Feet Photo

feet

It’s my turn to throw down a challenge. So for this week’s battle, I’m making feet the name of the game, found on this blog.

This should be interesting, folks. But if we can pull it off, I think it would make for a really cute family photo.

The questions is, who’s going to participate with us?

Even if it’s just you and your four-legged furry friend – all you need are some feet (or paws) and a camera.

Let it be known that my son is a 4-year old wiggle worm and our dog will not be amused. So I thin...

So You Had a Bad (Hair) Day

bad hair day 1I give you permission to laugh.

It’s okay, really. You can.

The Pinterest Battle this week was simple. Braid sections of hair. Run a flat iron over the braids. And voila! Pretty waves.

I wouldn’t call these pretty waves so much as a crimp gone horribly wrong.

Needless to say, I wore my hair up in a ponytail.

You might be wondering….how did my good friend Becky Wade fare in this particular battle?

Answer: Better than me.

Guess who else joined the fun? Becky’s mom (don’t they look alike?) and her daug...

Romance at its Finest

This is romance.

And it gets me every time.

Robert McQuilken’s resignation speech from Columbia Bible College and Seminary.

Let’s Talk: What’s your definition of romance?

Battle Four: Wavy Hair

pinterest wavesIt’s time for Becky to throw down a challenge and so she has.

Supposedly, all you need is a flat iron, some hair ties, and the ability to braid.

The directions?

Separate your hair into sections, braid, run a flat iron over each section, (hairspray and repeat if you so desire), unbraid, and….

Voila – pretty waves!

We’ll post our results on Friday. Should be interesting!

Feel free to join in the fun! Who knows? Maybe we’ll find a new favorite hairstyle.

If you haven’t already seen our previous three P...

Pinterest War: Battle Three Results

resurrection rolls finalAlright. So the majority of mine ended up looking much more like collapsed caves than empty tombs, but I must say, this one was both tasty and fun!

I give it an A for easiness.

An A+ for kid-friendly fun. It will definitely be an Easter tradition in the Ganshert household from here on out.

A C for resemblance to the original.

A D- for after-fun clean-up. (Melted marshmallow is not the nicest thing to clean off a pan.)

And an A+ for the yum-factor.

Becky and I loved seeing pictures of resurrection r...
