An October Pinterest War: Battle 1 Results
Last spring, fellow contemporary romance author, Becky Wade and I engaged in a Pinterest War, wherein we took turns challenging one another to various Pinterest endeavors. It was….not pretty, but definitely amusing! If Becky and I proved anything, I think we proved that neither of us are going to win a crafty award or adorable family picture award anytime soon.
Nonetheless, a new war has been declared!
The first battle?
We announced it on our Facebook Pages last Friday.
And the result...

Default Setting: Worry or Trust?
Default: a selection made usually automatically or without active consideration
I don’t know about you, but when storm clouds roll in, my default is not trust.
This isn’t my automatic response.
When something really bad or unexpected hits, my mind all-too-easily careens into the unknown future, imagining awful scenarios that haven’t even occurred yet until I’m spinning into a black hole of devastation.
What happened to standing firm?
What happened to clinging to the God who is the same yesterday,...

A Book for Every Reader Blog Tour
Today I have the immense pleasure of having one of my favorite historical romance authors on my blog–Joanne Bischof! (Insert wild applause here). Not only is Joanne a phenomenal writer, she’s also one of the sweetest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. Read along with us today as we share how our novels evolved throughout the editing process.
Take it away Joanne…
Katie Ganshert and I have something in common. We’re both blonde and skinny. Ok, totally joking. I’m not blonde nor all tha...

What a fun way to dive back into blogging last week! I enjoyed reading about everyone’s summers! As promised, I have five goodie packages ($5 gift card to Starbucks, Gone South by Meg Moseley, Wishing on Willows, and bookmarks) to give away. I had my roommate at the American Christian Fiction Writers choose five random numbers between one and fifty-two and the winners are….

Free Coffee, Free Books, Free Bookmarks
In the wise words of Thomas Carlyle…
Rest is a fine medicine.
Since I started blogging all the way back in 2009, I never took such a long, extended break as I did these past two months. And let me tell you, it was good for my soul!
We did a lot of swimming. We did a lot of playing. We ate a lot of ice cream. I learned to cook some Congolese recipes. We took our first family vacation (yes, first one) to Adventureland wherein Brogan rode every single roller coaster, even the upside down one. WE PA...

Summer Break
I don’t know about you, but I think summers are best spent outdoors in bare feet. Running through sprinklers. Going to the park. Reading in the shade while my son digs for treasure. Catching lightning bugs when its dark.
So this is what I shall do.
And when I’m not enjoying the aforementioned activities above, I’ll be plugging away on various writing projects.
What does this mean?
It means I’m taking an extended blogging break for the remainder of the month. A sabatical, if you will. As someone w...

Friday Favorite: Congo Cooking
My first attempt to cook authentic Congolese cuisine this week was a smashing success. And so incredibly fun!
I couldn’t stop smiling all night.
There was something very special about learning to cook food from my daughter’s country.
Especially the fufu, which is something she eats every single day.
Tangine Chicken with fufu and fried plantains:
Next week, I’m going to try Muamba Nsusu with yep, fufu and fried plantains (again).
I want to master the art of those second two so when our little girl i...

There’s a Girl
We first saw her face in February.
Three pictures in our inbox.
We learned her story a couple weeks later.
And since then….
We’ve said a lot of prayers.
We’ve done some investigating.
We’ve received more pictures.
I’ve written her love letters.
We’ve sent care packages.
Thanks to so many of YOU, we made her a puzzle….500 willing hearts came together and sponsored a piece to help bring this precious one home.
I bought her a pair of pink Crocs that sit on my nightstand.
We glued some pieces on our Adopti...

Friday Favorite: Bedtime Prayers
If you’re friends with me on Facebook, then you know my 4-year old son is constantly saying funny things.
One of my favorites?
His bedtime prayers.
Like this one, just last night…
Dear God, I love you. You are stronger than Spinosaurus. And you can walk on water. I can’t walk on water so I’m not God. I would drown. But I can walk on my tiptoes in the swimming pool. Thank you for being God. And thank you for mommy and daddy. I love them. Amen.
Let’s Talk: Any cute kids-say-the-darndest-things stori...
