Does the Truth Really Resist Simplicity?

Good morning Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

So we all know I’m a big fan of the vlogbrothers, and one thing the vlogbrothers talk about a lot is complexity.

Complexity is—surprise surprise—a complex subject, but John Green best sums up his argument with a statement that’s almost a catch phrase by this point: Truth resists simplicity.

We SHOULD Ban Video Games

Good morning, Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

So tell me if you’ve heard this one. Recently Australia completely banned the video game Hotline Miami 2 because of a rape scene that occurs within the game.

This isn’t a store choosing not to sell it—this is the government of Australia saying the game CANNOT be sold in Australia in any way.

And I just want to say good for them. Good for the Australian government. Hats off to you guys for keeping this game off the market.

Page a Day: January 16th, 2015

Two things could have gone wrong with today’s release of Mystic. One of them did.

The worst thing that could have happened is that no one could have cared. I mean no sales at all. No response to my email. No sales. Nothing. That, obviously, would have been the worst-case scenario.

That’s not what happened.

The Day Has Arrived

Hello Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

It’s today. Today is the day, therefore mathematically speaking, the day is today.

After I put up my video yesterday, something very important happened.

Page a Day: January 15th, 2015

Tomorrow’s the big day—but I almost completely forgot about another big event, one that was supposed to happen today. The release of Unsaid.

The film isn’t done, unfortunately. I missed the deadline. But I did open it back up and finalize the edit, then went through and color corrected it. Now it’s off to the sound guy, who will hopefully have a sound mix and music in the next day or so.

The Five Best Things an Artist Can Do

Good morning, Rebels, and welcome back to my life.

I’m an artist, and you might be, too. And you might entertain ideas of making a living from your art.

But that can be really hard to do. It’s hard to manage yourself as a business and finding an audience gets more difficult every day.

But there’s one problem that can trump all other problems when it comes to making a living as an artist—and that’s failing at the art itself.

Most of the time, though, “failing” in our art isn’t as simple as writing a bad book or painting a bad painting or whatever.

There’s a few common reasons for why we fail, and here’s how to fix five of them.
