Enough already. #Indiana, simmer down.

So religious freedom means freedom to discriminate and behave like jerks? And infringe upon the freedoms of everyone else?

C.P. pastor protesting changes to 'religious freedom' law : Politics

description

Enough already. Indiana, simmer down. Nobody is screwing with your church clubs. Party all you want. Network with like-minded souls. Massage each other's shoulders.

But watch out for evolution ... 'cuz it is a fact of life.

And thank God for that!

(We are still swimming in church lady crud -- pastors protesting tomorrow in windy Indy because of amendment.)

description

We are surrounded here, like the Salem witch trials, like the Spanish inquisition - and, from here, it looks just like after-prom time with Barbies and Kens just play-acting dangerously.

So sick of the affectations that are leading to disaster. Betty Boop goes to church, pretending that she is walking three steps behind her clueless husband, but actually she is calling all of the shots - and wearing the pretty go-to-church dresses.

Macbeth is so clueless...code!

Don has complained about this religious claptrap and pretentious narrowness for several years now. He was so correct. It would be hilarious if it weren't so embarrassingly tragic. He observed that "the dictionary defines religion as 'an objective pursued with zeal' – regardless the validity of that objective."

description

Atrocious behavior from Hoosierville once again - sick and tired of the hypocrisy and pomposity from jerkwads.

I apologize for this clueless state as best I can and am looking for other Hoosiers who know the score also -- as well as the world at large!

Indiana might just stop being beleaguered once the state stops beleaguering everybody else in the universe...so I do hold out some hope?

Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee. Ha!

Thanks for this feedback ...

Delayne Corle: "Give your mom a hug from me next time you see her. She's awesome!"

John Corbin: "'The Spanish Inquisition'...NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!!!!'

Manny Whitlock: "I need to check out that definition. LOL!"

Diane D'Agostino: "Hitting the nail on the head....as usual."

Scott Walden: "It is getting to the point that we have officially become the 'laughing stock' of the entire country!"

Postscript

And while I'm about it? "Family Focus" can take a flying leap also. Overpopulation is a climate changing problem. Let us stop reproducing ourselves today; tie the tubes and just enjoy screwing to your heart's content if that's your thing.

Hubby just hypothesized that the manner in which countless ludicrous state bills emanate from cookie cutters and continue to get revived when defeated is no doubt the same method used in enabling middle-aged politicians to enlist and get sent overseas for ten minutes for photo ops and parades and such so that votes from veterans can be generated.

Yet many many soldiers enlist for the correct reasons and go unnoticed.

description

Wherever the Koch brothers insert their fingers into the states they wish to turn red, they must certainly drum up many candidates who can dress in soldier gear and dupe the voters.

Let's do some research? Their own little regiment in the waiting for national office after the states have been bled dry by these same little hoop-jumping neo-cons. Plus the two-faced quality of many of the supporters of these returning heroes can be attributed to themselves wishing to get on the cash band-wagon - should there be a band-wagon.

I bet some of those with political intentions who don soldier uniforms these days probably actually sit in an office somewhere and make some money and are pretty safe? Until they return quickly with a new item on the political resume? War is hell and should be avoided...and playing at war is totally strange.

Folks can be turncoats when lobbying for somebody new who pays them for results. We only care because we are paying for this junk and for this role-playing going on right before our eyes. Wise up, constituency. Wise up. Stand back and take a real hard look at all of the opportunism which is about to drown all of us.

description

Now I am moving to outer Mongolia where I can be alone with my very own thoughts about the planet and about how badly vanity is f-ing it all up every nano-second! Please spay and neuter (friends, family, dogs, cats - I don't care), and start reading books for all kinds of pleasure and fun instead!

The lemming mentality

description

I love this. Fits my present mood to the max. Oh, yeah...oh, yeah...

CliffsNotes were named for a fellow named CLIFF. Did you know that?

He could speed read textbooks and write down what they were about for his college friends...that is the truth!

However, the lemmings who follow each other off cliffs caught my eye. Sometimes Facebook postings just conjure up the lemming mentality...shame on me.

But I do wish lemmings would not all follow each other off cliffs...and I wish humans would not either?

Cannot believe sometimes what matters to folks one right after the other. Maybe I need some sleep and I'll lighten up?

Ha!

Old Type Writer: The Secret of Change...

description After attending my sister Shirley's funeral service and reflecting a bit, not only on the loss of my last remaining sibling, but also on the recent deaths of my beloved cousin Linder, my dear uncle Mac, my free-spirited pal Edna Leedy, and longtime family friend Reed Bertolette, I composed this piece about the passage of time, the departure of loved ones, and ... the comic potential when doves are released in the presence of an ornithophobe.

Read here: http://talkofthetownwc.com/oldtypewri...

Editor Jennifer Romano writes, "Our condolences go out to columnist Susie Duncan Sexton and to her extended family on the recent death of her sister, Shirley Jagger. This week, Susie reflects on the loss of her dear sister and on family. Click here to read this heartfelt installment of Old Type Writer."

description

Here's an excerpt: "So, these inevitable life events, which I have catalogued here, simultaneously stunned, saddened and yet enlightened me. Shirley's unique personality seemed larger than life itself…as had my dad's. Her peaceful countenance in death left an impression that I shall remember always…the quiet strength and the beauty evident in her tranquil face reminded me that I am proud to have 'called her…Shirley'…my big (though much more petite than I!) sis."

________________________

Thank you for this lovely feedback. It is very healing.

Kim Elizabeth Johnson: “Really a nice tribute to all the loved ones lost to you. I remember my sweet grandma, who lived to be 99, often lamented how living to be very old brings with it the pain of saying good-bye to pretty much everyone you ever loved. Ah, life...still trying to figure out the point of it all! Loved that, in the face of all this, Susie is still advocating for those without voices - a true animal lover in all scenarios!”

John Mola: “I really enjoyed reading your column this week. Very interesting to hear your thoughts from behind the scenes so to speak. You portrayed your history with your sister and her life in general with grace and sweetness. Very well done.”

Drex Morton: “Brava, Susie Sexton... My heart has hung heavily in my chest as I had to witness this weekend past the evisceration of my Late Mother's domicile for the last twenty years - while trying to preserve some memorabilia... I am presiding at way too many Memorial Services for people I have known in addition to the families I am coming to know as I help them limp through the shadows. Even singing Mozart with an ensemble tonight didn't smear the usual salve on my soul the way your writing has. A simple thank you is in order, but as a member of the clergy, I'm happy to report that the release of reluctant birds into an uncertain future is rapidly passing out of vogue, thank the Deity... Susie's writing herein has helped my bereaved heart immeasurably... Her memory of her early days is exceptional...”

Rayma Gagnon Hogan: “Awe...the excerpt alone is very touching!! I had better get the Kleenex ready.”

Susan Tunstall Hinton: “I know, it was beautiful!”

Renee Cochrane Yongue: “Thank you. This is nice to be a part of this.”

description

Tari Joyce: “Absolutely wonderful, beautiful Susie. Yes, we are family. Susie has such a way of putting things – brings me right where she is. To those of you who like a very good read, both Susie and I have suffered loss of friends and family lately. I really love her narrative. Bless you, Susie! I adore this picture of little girl Susie. She looked like she could have been a Hollywood star herself with those curls, her sweetness, the look of her face. Just darling. It is because of my knowing Colin Lively in NYC – that chance meeting in the 90s, and now we’re all friends for life! It’s truly a gift from God to know all of you. You make my world much better because you’re in it. This piece is very touching – healing as well."

Kimberly Popso: “Very sweet. I feel like you all have become such a great part of my life these past few years via the web. I love what you put out into the world to touch the hearts of everyone you can reach. Thank you!”

Paul Clifford Schrade: "I was very moved and impressed by the enormous loss in your family of so many gifted people! That was too much of a load for you to bear, and I just pray that you can find the fortitude you will need to transcend it! One consolation is that they have gone on to far greener pastures and all the struggle is over. Now remains all of God’s rewards which will be many. God Bless you all!!”

description

Cathy Neely: “Roy, I enjoyed reading your mother's reflections. She has an amazing gift of being very creative with her words. We were saddened to hear about the passing of your aunt. The picture of your mom and her sisters when they were young is precious. I can see you in her face when she was a little girl. As you know, Linder passed away just a month ago. The memorial you and your mom sent to the humane society was appreciated….[Roy Duncan, Susie’s father] was a special person who loved life and people. I was a young woman in my twenties when he passed but remember him well! Special blessings to you and your mom.”

Cheryl Schuman: “Going to miss my amazing mama so much in my life....but do rejoice in knowing she's truly at peace and her struggle with declining health is over. … Was so wonderful having your folks share in our time of visitation and the funeral. Love the images and the tribute. They are precious.”

Bev Sexton: “Thank you, Roy”

Helen Cochrane – “Thanks for sending - Susie is a precious little girl. Aunt Helen”

Myrna Bailey - “Thanks, Roy, for sharing this. Your Mother is a remarkable lady. Her and your Dad are a great couple, and I always enjoy talking to them. Take care and thanks again for sending this along.”

Kat Kelly-Heinzelman: "I don't think a day goes by that I don't learn something when I read Susie's Old Type Writer. Thanks for sharing, and I love learning new stuff (things). Love ya'll."

Patty Hunter: "Beautifully written, Susie."

what is beautiful and essential in life ... a good-bye to my sister Shirley

Try to remember exactly WHO made us this week's national laughing stock

description I love protesting to restore love and compassion. We ain't called the "hurryin' hoosiers" for no reason. Doing damage control for our beloved state that used to be sweet and is gonna return to that kindness, after a few misguided careerist politicos get voted outta office (even some who have been near and dear and are now full of bullsh*t).

SNL Takes on Indiana Anti-Gay Religious Liberty Law

We need more Democrats TODAY! PEACE...IT CAN BE WONDERFUL...FOR ALL SENTIENT BEINGS...INDIANA WILDLIFE AND FARM ANIMALS INCLUDED....

Would bill expand 'canned hunting' in Indiana?

ALL SPECIES AND ALL PERSONS DO MATTER AND DO COUNT FOR SOMETHING! What is in our drinking water? In addition to all the lagoons of pig/farm animal parts and blood and guts and poop and urine wafting over all Hoosiers? Too many mean and ambitious country-clubbing/red-neck Republican legislators on their own fast tracks in spite of all the damage they are doing to humans and to other species. We are doomed if we cannot stop the power-hungry clowns now!

description

Try to remember exactly WHO made us this week's national laughing stock and generated hashtag "boycott Indiana" posts from people of every persuasion and many of the famous among us...and send those bigoted legislative folks back home to just sit on their porches and reflect for the rest of their natural lives, no matter how they got into office (some through mysterious caucusing -- you know who they are).

We have been used by people out for only themselves and their own advancement...they just revealed who they are for all the world to see.

description

THE GOOD PEOPLE STOOD UP FOR THE FREEDOMS AND RIGHTS OF ALL OF US THIS PAST WEEKEND in Fort Wayne and Indianapolis and elsewhere. We stood together with like-minded human beings in Allen County on Clinton Street. By the way, SB 101 not at all what Bill Clinton legislated.

Present were every color, every gender, every age, the curved and the straight, the sexy and the asexual - humans of every variety, from kids to elderly. Marble vestal virgins seated on either side of the following quote (on the side of the Allen County Courthouse): "Justice -- the hope of all who suffer, the dread of all who wrong."

Wonderful Terry Doran noted, "We thought nothing could be worse than Governor Mitch ... now we have Governor Mike."

description

(I wanted to use words like lout and thug…but I am touting love…so use your discretion!)

Be on the alert for devious spins from our pretend GOVERNOR who enjoys the support of the ULTRA-WEALTHY CONTROLLING KOCH BROTHERS. Be on the alert for Hoosier neo-cons who are jumping through all of the tea party hoops and dupes.

If you love INDIANA, HONK...and wow, as we stood with our signs, the honkers were beautiful and too numerous to count! HOOSIERS WHO ARE REAL CARE ABOUT ALL HOOSIERS...don't draw a pay-check from us tax-payers telling us any different. Be gone, all sneaky petes with your hateful, exclusionary tactics.

description

Re-learn how to truly care about somebody besides yourselves. YAY FOR INDIANA on this week-end before Easter Sunday. "LOVE ONE ANOTHER"...the only Bible verse needed right this moment!

"Great things are accomplished by talented people who believe they will accomplish them..." ~ Warren G. Bennis

(And those talented people are never, well hardly ever, self-serving politicians who would rather take tax-payer money in their pay-checks than work for a living. Case in point? Those clowns hurrying through nasty laws in Indianapolis. They must be stopped...the inmates are running the asylum - use YOUR talents to get them out of office!)

Oh, let us recall most of these legislators down in Indianapolis. We can get started locally IF they come out of hiding. Tired of their hoop-jumping for personal gain. They care neither about people or animals...just themselves.

Let us not forget it, no matter who we may be or what dogmas we may believe. We are all the same...blessings on us all...all of us.

Where is James Bond when we need him? Indiana's "religious freedom" measure, "ag days," and other hypocritical horrors

INDIANA...UGH! Now 40 representatives (all Republicans) have voted that humans can be fired or not hired because of their religions or lack of...religions??!

House panel approves religious freedom bill

Where is James Bond when we need him? Oh, wait, here he is ...

description

Yay! New movie this holiday season...except I am staying HOME next winter and not exposing myself to germs like the past two heinous seasons of 2014 and 2015. That means no hair appointments, no dental visits, let alone cineplex jaunts for me if I can at all help it.

Daniel will just have to pay me a personal visit and act out his movie for me! And maybe take care of some pressing issues here in the Hoosier state. Shaken ... not stirred.

description

Oh, and our ag-industry horror movie-esque lagoons down the road and filled with blood and guts? Boy, do we need a James Bond to end the madness. The world has turned to slop, so Bond do help us all! I am damned serious!

"Dark ages" in the laughing stock state. Surely, Indiana did not used to be so f-ing stupid! Never noticed until these past few years anyway. Really, no one should move here. We are backward and very nasty-minded. Bond, take me away.

We teach school kids in the spring that there are two kinds of goats? Dairy and meat. Either kind of goat loses. Rape-racks for mama animals who then watch their "kids" get chopped up for eating. Impregnated repeatedly, no doubt like cattle and pigs are? AND EVENTUALLY BECOMING MEAT THEMSELVES.

description

Children in Indiana are filed through fairground buildings on ag days in beautiful spring weather to "meet their meat". Heart-breaking and a terrible indoctrination of young minds who could instead achieve a peaceable kingdom and a world filled with kindness.

Would bill expand 'canned hunting' in Indiana?

Ah, well...and so it goes? Mr. Bond, I require your services ...

Old Type Writer: Rub-a-Dub-Dub...Pitfalls of a Nostalgic Mind-Set

description Latest Old Type Writer column from yours truly - titled "Rub-a-Dub-Dub ... Pitfalls of a Nostalgic Mind-Set." Anyone who has ever fixed up an old home ... or given up on fixing up an old home ... or dealt with difficult family members ... or given up on dealing with difficult family members will enjoy this latest piece. Talk of the Town Editor Jennifer Romano writes, "Follow columnist Susie Duncan Sexton as she reflects on life with a little nostalgia on Old Type Writer."

Here's a quote from the column itself, "Never allow sentiment to dictate the purchase of your old 1935 homestead which hinges upon shedding a perfectly adequate 1952 'Better Homes & Garden' type dwelling the Cleavers would have died for -- in a decent more progressive zippy larger town -- and then feeling joyful possessing enough cash in hand to close the deal."

Read the rest at the link: http://talkofthetownwc.com/oldtypewri...

Happy spring, everyone!

And nobody ain't sayin' nothin'! How our mistreatment of the environment is killing us all

description I was just thinking about the part climate change plays in our lives, and the role the agriculture industry has played in ruining the ecology.

If I hear about one more person with a mystery affliction in our local area 10 miles from one of the hugest pig "industries" in this nation, I am tapping Obama and even Al Gore on their shoulders and saying look at what this ecologically messed up earth is doing to all of us.

And nobody ain't sayin' nothin'! It is really stretching credulity to describe all of these horrid illnesses around here as "sinus conditions." Truly wondering what is going on?

description

The medical profession seems to be blowing off these various mystery illnesses with odd diagnoses. Wondering totally what ailment I am fighting this month myself. Time to hold our nation accountable for its greed at the expense of both human and animal lives...sheer horrid greed.

Who in this country is in bed with whom and why? $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

(No wonder I have seldom taken a shine to my own generation - what a self-involved bunch and what a problem for America. Arghhh. Sorry, fellow boomers, but you have never impressed me for one second. From day one. Either ahead of or behind my time. But enough is enough.)

description

Oh, would that I could round up the perpetrators who pretend to be so righteous. They are so screechingly and obviously uncaring. Let's hope that the sheer volume of their self-glory is beginning to fall upon the DEAF (and no doubt) unhealthy ears of the rest of us.

They surface for photo-ops and indoctrination: "ag day" this week as in "little kids, MEET YOUR MEAT; lambs are MUTTON; cattle are BEEF; pigs are BACON, SAUSAGE, PORK, HAM." Apparently, we must fall down in worship of what the farm "industry" has done for all of us.

Baby calves are fattened up for veal, in their little igloos dotting the wholesome countryside. Their species names evaporate, and they are identified by the cuts of flesh and muscle and organs that we train humans to munch upon. At those springtime ag days designed for childhood indoctrination, we introduce these "market" names to hide the lives we are obliterating. Go, ahead, pet before consuming, little ones.

Well, phooey on that agriganda! All species are in absolute peril by the second. (Need a picture of a lagoon here in farm country with its mystery haze of blood, guts and mixture of body fluids like none other in the history of the universe!) Breathe in, folks, and see if you better have your head examined to believe what toxins we are battling at the dinner table and in the air.

We are all getting sicker by the second...except for the greedies who are laughing all the way to the bank. They are out there, bragging about their terrific good fortunes and how blessed they are. The rest of us are fools not to call them what they are.

Right with you, Rumpy! The unyielding, essential heartache of advocacy

Choosing My Battles and Moving On: I am so totally relating to this honest appraisal of how f-ed up animal welfare can become. Bravo to Rumpy for taking this issue on; the species, including homo sapiens, should all be on the same page or the animals lose again...as always.

description

As far as talking with elected officials, caring about animals does NOT win them votes so they are seldom friends to animals (who also cannot vote). I gave that up after one try. It seems that the rationalizations given by politicians always involve profit-making to the human species when all is said and done.

12 Years for ‘Boyhood’ and 30 Years for Animals

Disillusionment can be a very powerful force...even for me! Rumpy and Jen (authors of the blog entry linked above) are wondrous souls! We all do the best we can under hideous circumstances and stupid remarks...not for the weak-hearted.

description

For example: stop pig scrambles/pig wrestling in Maine! We need to stop these in Indiana as well. Please sign (at the above link), please start now to protest these sad displays - children learning to abuse animals through such gang-like bullying behavior.

No rewards should be given for this nor photographs taken; these false "competitions" featuring innocent and defenseless animals purposely frightened for our "entertainment" should become distant memories. They represent total thoughtlessness and an utter lack of humanity.

11 Reasons To Love Pigs

Let's stop these horrors before the summer "FUN" commences at the tragic expense of yet another species we consider less important than ourselves. I asked hubby if he would help me advocate for stopping this in Indiana. Says he is shy around the good ole beefy boys?????? I am very disappointed with his reply...very! Pig "wrestling" is so despicable and hateful and totally bizarre.

description

How can anyone be on board with ganging up? With bullying? And is this where swine flu probably gets percolated every summer, ready to strike through the winter? This is a total horror! Several members of a species (humans?????) terrifying one member of another species. The pigs, soon to be slaughtered, limp off afterward, with twisted spines and maybe with aborted piglets in utero. Does this mean we shouldn't care?? Correcting the picture of barbarism that this activity validates to our youth is the difference caring could make.

How James Cromwell Can Save Vermont From an ‘American Horror Story’

It would be just fantastic if others spoke up, if churches spoke up, if literary groups spoke up, if youth clubs spoke up, if schools spoke up, if men's groups claiming to work with youths spoke up, if there were NO audiences for such a heart-breaking display of unkindness and fear-mongering. No more cash exchanged!

The Dangerous 'Noble Savage' Myth

Wishing we could ALL care and work for the welfare and rights of all species as a matter of principle and for what is correct minus the human foibles. Our job: treating each other as best we can within our own human bunch would be a great start. I am quite tired of the constant put-downs myself. Right with you, Rumpy!

Where is Jay Leno when we need him? Three stories

description Thanks to fellow author and animal lover Jim Robertson for reblogging my piece, which follows, to his Exposing the Big Game ...

1) Unlikely friendship of a dog and an owl ... Okay! So, why can't humans simmer down and be nice and stop eating other species? AND stop warring with one another? AND stop worrying and start being happy and looking out for each other? These photographs at the above link are exceptional - enjoy! LIFE as it was meant to be lived...by all!

Don't eat any animals under any circumstances; it is always wrong and misguided and thoughtless and cruel.

2) Urgent: Ask Indiana Legislators to Oppose ‘Canned Hunting’ Bill! This state has gone so damned low that it is not to be believed; they may have already voted as they are running crazy, mean-spirited legislation through like CRAZY!

(This just in: still 18 too many if you ask me! "Mycroft says another factor in last year's deer harvest decline is that only 18 state parks had hunts, compared with 22 state parks in 2013.")

3) ODD HEADLINE? "American gored by bull in Spain out of intensive care": not just a double preposition, but also sounds like the bull gave a bit of a gore to a rotten person just to teach a lesson in humane-ness, doing so from that spirit of concerned "intensive care" for the brat's soul?????? Like a parental swat? Where is Jay Leno when we need him?

Thanks for this feedback!

Laurie LaRue Bills: "Love to read Susie's writings! She is right on!"

Susan Carpenter: "This series of pictures is just sweet. The owl is so comfortable and trusting of his buddy. It makes my heart smile amidst others who have no respect for animals."

Kim Elizabeth Johnson: "As far as I'm concerned that 20 year old American kid gored by the bull got exactly what he deserved!"
