And this is just one small town.

How China purchased a prime cut of America’s pork industry

Indiana scrambling like the devil to become the pork king of the United States through such transactions - just what I feared is going to come to pass...arghhh. As of the moment, the Hoosier state is number 5, and one such operation up the road from our house. People getting rich through slaughter and greed...breeding to kill...like mad.
I am just waiting to get assassinated for telling it like it is. Fine and dandy with me.

We are doomed. Difficult to watch the news these days. The earth has gone all screwy; for example, the tiny town of Albion exports piglet pancreases and live pigs to China steadily. China does not want the polluted lagoons...yet this lucrative Albion operation is 20 miles from our house? High school programs every year in the gym about its wonderfulness. And 4-H marches on, and certain churches here retain their monopoly over the praying hearts and minds of the lemming-like populace.
And this is just one small town. Multiply it...multiply the faux Christian greed. Daily agri-ganda, believe in a big god in the sky bunch of claptrap, and couples having one baby after the other. We are so "blessed" (screaming now).

I am so behind keeping up with whatever was my life before 11 years ago when I began to care about the important issues of life. Back then, I became (and remain) so disillusioned with human interactions that I finally moved my mind to care about the disenfranchised more than ever...and I have never been the same.
Postscript
I HOPE I figure out HOW to figure out where I was before my activist marathon activities took over my existence...where was I before I got hooked on the possibility of a peaceable kingdom. I see those folk art "peaceable kingdom" images in my mind's eye all the time. Time to clean out closets, file paperwork, and chill. IF I don't, I'll lose what is left of my once organized mind! Ha!

Old Type Writer: "Singing (and sighing) out loud!" - PLUS, part one of my two-part Patty's Page tv interview!

Latest column from yours truly! Editor (and newly minted city councilwoman) Jennifer Zartman Romano writes, "Columnist Susie Duncan Sexton is back with her latest installment of Old Type Writer, considering her motivation to write and urging us all to sing...and live out loud! To read it, click here." http://talkofthetownwc.com/oldtypewri...

Excerpt:
Our son keeps us supplied in tickets to devour performances in Ft. Wayne and Indianapolis...within our comfort zone...we drive and drive and listen and watch and meet and greet and stand in hallway lines, CDs in hand to be autographed, while engaging in gushing praise to seated chanteuses, Jersey type Boys, former movie stars, and assorted celebrities perhaps on the skids. Our photo albums bulge with folks flashing whitened teeth and who gleaned and Affected from experience how to smile for the cameras as we lean naively and adoringly in, our faces looking all discombobulated and star-struck and flop-sweaty, peasant smiles revealing coffee stains from the turn of the century. We post our digitally non-photogenic history nevertheless. As I type, I glance at Diana Krall emblazoned across my t-shirt purchased in July at the Ft. Wayne Embassy Theater where we sat separated by only one row of seats from the piano prodigy/jazz musician and wife of Elvis Costello and friend of Beatle Paul McCartney and Elton John! Thanks as always, Roy! Who says we cannot hobnob with movers and shakers...the best of them?

A lion has landed?

Almost forgot my latest bulletin. My suggestion is: the Donald and the Hillary preside together...co-presidents! Mark my words, that combo should work! For a number of reasons. Tired of all the effing around. They've got what it takes. Hot damn! And maybe no other elected officials at all anywhere?
Perhaps a very inventively stacked cabinet could be fun! Directness of purpose and instructive words never hurt anyone, but an animal enthusiast is needed. Perhaps the 4th branch of government: executive(s) (Hillary and Donald), legislative (nobody), judicial (even more liberal judges in those idiotic black robes), and...the IMPERATIVE, that would be the animal KINGDOM (to be called ALL SPECIES MATTER - AND BTW WE ARE ALL ANIMALS!) so throw away the guns!

Hillary plays the stock market via beef commodities, and the Donald with those trophy hunting sons of his … argh!
(Speaking of people who take needless trips for dubious reasons, I do not dig any of the yuppies or millennials or generation x or whatever demographic of spoiled brats and their absolute self-proclaimed entitlement for constantly "deserved" travels and vacations. Obscene.)
Maybe the Donald will put a spin/politically correct twist to his currently murky stance where animals are concerned...and suddenly love them all. I HOPE SO! Oh, do I ever? The Republican monsters will not know what to do with themselves if true conservation is the order of the day. No more deer hunts and moose soup and hiking boots and tree stands! Hoo-ray!

And, dammit, we were just in Michigan a few days too soon to see him speak. In reality, I never liked him.....but now I do. Go figure. Maybe a baby boomer thing? I can relate?
I am thinking my definition of "good journalist" and "bully" does not jibe with Fox News or with the nutsoid world of journalism these days. Who ARE the bullies these days? Really? Not at all sure Megyn Kelly should have not instead associated herself with Ice Capades or Copacabana? If that?

And the other 16 candidates are the "bullies" but wrapped in sheep's clothing. (That Irishman O’Rubio reminds me of Robert Morse's turn in HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING...that cute little nose and all?) We shall see where this all lands. Wacky to watch...
Politics? So sucky, and so very many candidates are such total drips masquerading as evangelical doll babies; therefore, Trump can totally happen...and so be it. Move over, charlatans...and turn off the phony posturing. A lion has landed.

...scarier than you, the Donald
TRUMP? What are we gonna do with you? I love how you are enervating the other 16 crazies...but your record of misogyny and pride that your grown kids enjoy African safaris HAS GOT ME BUFFALOED. AND PUTIN is a jerk...and you think you can BOND with him, man to man?

So clear up those three areas and I shall rest easy when you oppose Hillary or Bernie or Hillary and Bernie...I want a real person in charge and not an automaton-neo-con. That crowd is both hilariously ludicrous and simultaneously scary...scarier than you, the Donald!
Hmmmm. So either YOU or Hillary/Bernie. Maybe America can make it. At least we could count on the three of you. Nobody else has risen to the occasion.
No arguments please. I listen to these people constantly, and I know what I am talking about.

The Donald and Hillary and I are all the same age...so there! Just venting here...and blessings on Cecil the Lion King and to hell with all hunters everywhere!

If I find out that the Donald likes that space cadet who has caused males to trophy hunt...males such as doll-baby dentists and Barbie dolls in hunting costumes...because she pretends to hunt because it is politically correct for Republicans to kill animals or pretend they do? I shall drop the Donald like a hot potato.
Sarah is not as intelligent as your scarred and scuffed up very used Barbie doll at the bottom of your over-stuffed retro-closet.

Where is Erin Brockovich when we need her?

And another friend named KIM ELIZABETH JOHNSON is an angel who never stops advocating for other species...must be something about that name Elizabeth, the prettiest name ever! Treasured friends who stand up for animals and protect and defend them -- I admire and love them both.
(Among many others too numerous to mention, but you know who you are...FACEBOOK CAN BE WONDERFUL!)

Thank heavens for souls like this, and where is Erin Brockovich when we need her? Speciesism, the movie, discusses all of the cancers proliferating in North Carolina due to lagoons of animal parts ground up and feces and urine and blood wafting across the fields and into human beings suffering and dying.

Furthermore, Indiana, where I live, is now the fifth largest pork producer in the nation if not higher on the list. The Humane Society of the United States local director told me that. I bet we are higher up on the list, and Indiana Governor Mike Pence plans to live in Washington one of these days - so who cares if we peasants die?!
A few locals making cash hand over fist. Do they care about any species at all besides themselves? I could list just who they are...
This guy is just up the road from us. Discuss amongst yourselves...
Don calls this operation in Albion a factory farm; they went before our high school with a program last year, and I have read scathing articles about the place. Pig parts the most closely aligned with humans, thus the pancreases taken from piglets and exported to China...and the masks needed when visiting? Folks think we won't notice here in Whitley County what Albion is doing? The Chinese businessmen who visit the local "industry" do not wish to breed and raise billions of pigs in huge China due to diseases and the feces and blood and urine - notice the masks on the Chinese citizens? But this factory farm is 10 miles away from tiny Whitley County? Why is this not a huge issue...just huge?

Of course, this is abuse of pigs to the highest degree though the party line is that visitors must wear masks on field trips (how? the place is hidden) so that people do not give diseases to pigs. The country club set is alive and well and living in Northeast Indiana - now, who woulda thunk it? And some of the billionaires call the shots at our 4-H fair BTW; a combine featured there at our fair THIS summer cost half a million dollars. Some residents can afford that; just look around next time you are out driving. Indiana is being sold off...Mitch Daniels, now president of Purdue, even visits Hamroc...saw a photo of him on a front porch with ______ (censored).
(And many 10 year 4-H members are from other towns, such as North Manchester? Really read their publicity in the paper this year since they inundate us with it? So what is with their "local" fixation as far as criticism of their practices, yet you can be "non-local" if you play the game?)

How many times do I need to write the stuff before somebody somewhere finally reads it and helps to stop this horror of animal victimization? Waiting for China to either steal our ideas and drop America like a hot potato and the local profiteers go belly up with all of their vacations and new houses and cars and bragging rights...or that China itself goes bankrupt.
Indeed, when we eat pigs we are eating ourselves. We are more closely related to pigs and their physical structure and DNA than any other species...
Saw this meme yesterday on Facebook: “Bac-con: [bake-con] verb, The false belief that announcing ‘bacon' – (typed or spoken) is a credible response in any discussion with vegans. Whilst bacon is normally from the rump – the announcer is usually the asshole.”
There are so many locals who shout this bacon word out like an obscenity. Sick unto death of all of them...mostly women, too!!! And hideous little posts of piglets as bacon seeds on farm gals' pages.

I sit and watch the people at restaurants and it is no wonder they are bigoted against pigs - wish we could rename pigs and assign that name to homo sapiens. Pigs are NOT supposed to be fattened up to the point that when in sanctuaries they can no longer walk. Shame on the human race!
This should be our next assignment, right up there and even worse than pig wrestling...

Thanks to those who never wavered for a second and never will -- how impressive you are.

Grateful for those who came through for another species and gladly overwhelmed by the unqualified support from so many.
Disillusioned with the status quo...speechless in the face of stubborn cruelty which seems never to dissipate. My heart is overwhelmed with good thoughts and dismal thoughts.
Thanks to those who never wavered for a second and never will -- how impressive you are.

I am saddened that I am considering stopping cold. Mountains of doubt as to the future of species other than our own, as well as our very own, cannot be moved.
A strange blend of happy and sad. I want to cry, but I cannot. I am totally stunned. Thanks, as usual, to Roy who is so very busy and persistently kind and who did move mountains to change thinking on this very important issue. He is an amazing human being!

I will forget many folks here but just offering few additional mentions:
Marian Patience Harvey for her sage advice and her unyieldingly kind heart;
Deborah Snyder who arranged some marvelous media coverage (see links below to stories from all major local networks);
Jaclyn Croussore who singlehandedly led the development and updating of an internationally recognized petition that garnered over 23,000 signatures (for any other community that would be something celebrated, not dismissed);
Liz and Mike Schatzlein for offering generously to underwrite alternative events but who were turned away early in the process;
Don Sexton for following requested protocol and speaking to the fair board, even though he never received any follow up or acknowledgment;
Joel Kerr and the Indiana Animal Alliance and Esther's Army and Animal Place and Black Pine Animal Sanctuary and PETA for spreading the word;
the thousands of people around this planet who expressed their horror over this activity;
and the many, many, many folks in counties around Indiana who developed their own petitions and fought their own fights to educate and enlighten.
Whew, could have used the Donald (maybe?) by my side when I did yesterday's interviews...two of which were civil...one was bananas. Two outta three ain't bad. I do not wish this stuff on anyone, but the pigs needed me and I succumbed to pig pressure, all sweaty and breathless to be a voice for the voiceless...at least one more time...until my heart attack!
But I did feel quite a lot like Mel Gibson in the final reel of BRAVEHEART - so while the pigs got ganged up on, I stood a bit crippled on the 4-H hill (which I have known nearly all of my life) pleading their case and the cause of really terrific advocates from this very area and around the globe! Sounds fair to me! I had the easier row to hoe!
There was no point person for all this - there was no leader. They all were leaders. It was a fluid confederation of folks who care and who want a better world. That's inspiring.

Media coverage :
WANE-TV (CBS)
WJKG-TV(NBC)
21Alive(ABC)
WFFT-TV(Fox)
And MOST important of all, watch this video, taken at last week's pig wrestling event in Corydon, Indiana, for the heartbreaking evidence of why we all pursued this like we did ...
http://youtu.be/80e19VkmKnc

Thanks for these comments!
Mary Lou Cassotto: "Unfortunately most of people's thoughts and beliefs came from way back...and they have hardened their hearts...but still important to keep trying to swim upstream...What life is all about..."
Judy Kramer: "Susie - you bring tears to my eyes. There are times when I say something and not all that bad and I get the stare or the look or the eyes roll. I just sit or stand there and let it go! I know I am not alone, even if they don't get it. We DO. You restore my faith that there are those who care, and, yes, we are NOT neurotic. In the world I, personally, am in, I hold back most of the time and just do what I think is right. Yes, I pick up ants, bugs, etc. and set them outside (yesterday it was some sort of flying bug that got in house and Bob and I managed to get it to fly out the window). I will never change when it comes to helping our 'little' friends."
Kim Elizabeth Johnson: "You are a brave warrior, Susie Sexton!! Thanks for all you did in fighting this battle. I look forward to watching your interviews. I say we up the ante if this gets scheduled for next year and plan a huge protest at the event."
Monica Reynolds: "THANK YOU!!! For standing up and being a voice that these poor pigs so badly need! This is a very tough road for us to travel; we see the pain and suffering and so many people turn away and we cannot believe that they could do this...but they do! Therefore this shameful behaviour must make us grow stronger; just yesterday someone whom I had considered a friend posted a comment referring to 'vicious vegans.' I know it was directed at me; I don't consider myself VICIOUS!!! BUT I am BOLD, BLUNT and if something needs to be said I WILL SAY IT - but, you know, it , as much as you try to shrug it off, so for all of the time and effort that you have put in for these precious pigs I THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. We stand together; we may never ever meet each other in person, but the love that we all feel moves between us via this keyboard; we are making a difference; it is slow; but it is happening. I am so proud of every person that makes a stand against insane violent cruelty! Bless you all XXXX"

So is the local running of the bulls still on?

Whitley County - PLEASE CANCEL all future pig wrestling events.
Disgusted that no city fathers or mothers have stepped up to condemn pig wrestling. Had just one done that, we would not be hosting such an atrocity.
Again...for is it four years in a row now? With not a peep from somebody? Publicly. Somebody that the citizens listen to.
We cannot stand the thought of watching such a horrible event. Hard enough to view via videos...but we need to do something. Don spoke to the board in March. I have written letters in past years...even filmed a piece last week-end. Contacted city attorney and the police chief; council met without inviting Don and pooh poohed any concern. Commissioners walked away from any comment. Ordinance against tormenting of animals within city limits ignored.
We put up with all of the noise of demolition derbies and loud speakers and horse flies year after year. Time to speak up. Wishing veterinarians would say something...wishing pastors would say something...unbelievable.
23,000 signatures on a wonderful petition started by a local lady...but has the newspaper reported that? No! They harp on local involvement so they can sell papers.

The entire world has shrunk now due to the internet. We all have a right to be concerned about animal welfare and the toxic food we are eating whether via animal carcasses and rotting flesh or grown from seeds laced with insecticide. We are the consumers.
Oh, and animals are not our property nor should they be. The police chief says via newspaper he will be there like a duck on a june bug for protest situations? But not for outlawing the event? I sense that politics is at work yet again and the animals always suffer the effects of good ole-boy back-slapping. Sick of it all.
And a former citizen offered to underwrite the pig wrestling "contest" if they would cancel it? She was ignored twice!!!!!!! Offered about two months ago...plenty of time to change course. Unreal.
Amazing...this would have been symbolic of kindness and bravery and courage and doing what is correct.
Monday is still 3 days away. Whitley County could be a leader for change...for positive change...not infamous for ostriches hiding heads in the sand.

Three more days to stop what was brought to the attention of the "fair" board in March. Plenty of time to change course then.
And this can still happen. MAYBE MOTHER NATURE will rain on the parade so to speak. We can only hope that happens...those of us with hearts that is.

Postscript.
Very proud to see evidence second by second that both Hoosiers and the rest of the world are opposed to such an unnecessary event, which features bullying of and ganging up on innocents and the dismaying fact that young people are encouraged to participate. We hold out hope that this can still be cancelled and that these kinds of activities dwindle away.
Peace ... nearly 23,000 signatures and thoughtful, caring comments restore hope in the hearts of human beings who demand change and who look forward to appreciation for other species growing exponentially. Odd, that it takes courage to be kind. Thank goodness for those who demonstrate so willingly such bravery to speak out and to show up when needed in real time. Thank you...

plural noun: sycophants

syc·o·phant
/ˈsikəˌfant,ˈsikəfənt/
Noun
...
Plural noun: sycophants
A person who acts obsequiously toward someone important in order to gain advantage.
Synonyms: yes-man, bootlicker, brown-noser, toady, lickspittle, flatterer, flunky, lackey, spaniel, doormat, stooge, cringer, suck, suck-up
"I thought you wanted a competent assistant, not a nodding sycophant."
I am having fun identifying sicko-phants, and adding them to my DO NOT CARE FOR list that I keep handy....ha! I am collecting them now in a section of the cerebral cortex. And guess what? I ain't ever gonna trust them again! What a group!
And no one fits that bill better than politicians.

We nice gentle compassionate people are sure as hell paying taxes to fund some odd folks and some odd shenanigans. So why do we not have a voice to stop the fiends who wish to get elected and do?????
Don and I drove all the way to Indy about three years ago and ... wow? Did we ever get blown off by a politician to whom we had been very kind and whom we had supported but who very much thinks the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. He doesn't seem to know us these days? And...we are paying his salary?

Case in point...look at this article to see what the politicians do when they play with our cash? And when they think somebody else can advance their ambitions and they follow that scent instead...
Hey Kid, Are You Interested in an Internship with Animals?
I quoted my friend (and adopted pastor) Drex Morton this weekend filming two free-wheeling episodes of The Patty Hunter Show: we must apply "the consistency of the concept of right to life...ALL life!" I truly appreciate Drex (and those like him) for his mind and his fairness!

Oh, and I and many others do not wish to pay for pig wrestling either...and we have a right to say so, and the pigs have a right not to "play" in an uneven match...
Whitley County 4-H, PLEASE CANCEL all future pig wrestling events.
Interestingly, this petition added 7,000 (!) signatures in just 24 hours after a misleading story appeared in our local paper. Maybe there are a LOT of people who truly care after all.
Is anyone listening? Do the people who fixate on "local" interests, that is until they have to sell their wares to the folks outside their imaginary walls, understand what a global economy actually is?
So put that in your pipe and smoke it...IF the shoe fits???? Mixing my metaphors, and I like it like that!

This is real...this is evil. This we CAN do something about.
Interesting – PETA has now issued an action alert for the State of Indiana. “Speak Out Against ‘Pig Wrestling’ in Indiana!” – http://www.peta.org/action/action-ale... (click link to let your voice be heard).

Whoever still does not "get" this holocaust of other species, watch a video, listen to the screams...and stand up for what is right...do it now!
This evidently is what children need to see rather than to be constantly encouraged to join in the holocaust, then pig wrestling and auctioneering and selling animals to be slaughtered would stop. Nothing wholesome about indoctrinating kids to not give a damn and furthermore to profit from torment, torture and death...brutal deaths!
Let us start enlightening the youth NOW...THIS SUMMER...no more time to waste.
Good lord, people...shame on us for not stopping these horrors...NOW! And where are the churches and the pastors who preach mythology to us while in reality every second this is going on? Do not look away; you cannot stop what you pretend not to acknowledge.
This is real...this is evil. This we CAN do something about.

Here is the text: “Pigs are highly sensitive animals who—just like our animal companions—are capable of great suffering and deserve respectful treatment. But during the month of July, fairs throughout Indiana intend to feature ‘pig wrestling’ events in which young pigs will be chased, grabbed at, swarmed, tackled, and then roughly crammed into barrel drums amid screaming crowds and with no means of escape or defense. Being subjected to the noise, violence, and chaos inherent in these activities is both terrifying and hazardous for the animals, and severe injuries, including broken limbs and backs, have resulted. Your voice is needed! Please urge fair officials in the counties of Fayette, Harrison, Whitley, and Decatur to cancel the planned 'pig wrestling' events, and then forward this alert widely! Feel free to send the sample letter provided; however, your own polite letter will have more impact.”
